Sanders calls Planned Parenthood part of the Political Establishment he's taking on

Incredible

Sanders said several organizations that have backed Clinton’s candidacy, including Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign, represent the entrenched political class that he is fighting.
“What we are doing in this campaign – and it just blows my mind every day, because I see it clearly, we’re taking on the political establishment,” Sanders said late Tuesday on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.”

“And so I have friends and supporters in the Human Rights [Campaign], in Planned Parenthood,” he added. “But you know what? Hillary Clinton has been around there for a very, very long time, and some of these groups are, in fact, part of the establishment.”

“Really Senator Sanders?” she tweeted early Wednesday morning. “How can you say that groups like [Planned Parenthood] and [the Human Rights Campaign] are part of the ‘establishment’ you’re taking on?”

Planned Parenthood and the Human Rights Campaign also weighed in on the exchange, saying they were disappointed by Sanders’s comments.

“We respect [Senator Sanders],” Planned Parenthood tweeted late Tuesday evening. “Disappointed to be called ‘establishment’ as we fight like hell to protect women’s health.”

“We share [Planned Parenthood’s] disappointment in Sanders’ attack,” the Human Rights Campaign tweeted Wednesday morning. “[Hillary Clinton] has proudly taken on the establishment & fought for LGBT people for over 30 years.”

Edit: Adding full interview because some folks claim it changes everything, I disagree but nonetheless

Ok, fuck off. You can fuck off right about now, Bernie.
Are you just going to be against any establishment just because? That's just shitty.

I have no idea what his reasons are, did I miss an elaboration?

Also I dunno if I could say that Hillary's been fighting for LGBT causes for 30 years; I mean didn't she sign a marriage-defense act back in the day?

Talk about political carpet bombing.

I'm pretty sure she went against signing a defense of marriage act back in the day (I think when she was senator), may be wrong tho.

The more Bernie continues to talk about Wall Street, the less interested I become in his campaign.

What was the point of saying this? Talk about carpet bombing your campaign.

The HRC is absolutely an establishment organization, but there's no way saying something like this could have been interpreted in any sort of good way. Jesus Christ, Bernie.

He's basically talking about establishment donors, whatever their stripe.

Bernie is echoing the prevailing populist messages of the past. Put control and influence toward individual voters, not groups.

It's nothing controversial implicitly, Bernie is pro-choice, but I can see how it can be interpreted as such.

Aren't they all establishment, the candidates included.

Yeah, but being this obvious about it is jumping the shark. There is a reason why everyone plays the establishment's game. It's the only game in town. He should be offering an alternative, not dogging those led on the nose by the system.

I've been saying this for a while now.

Bernie is a horrible politician. First he claims he's a
democratic
socialist and takes months to actually try to explain away what that means.

Then he claims that "oh, well I might just raise the middle class taxes, I also have this super tax plan where I want to bring back tax rates of ~90%, but I'm not sure, get back to me."

Now he basically calls out Planned Parenthood, who is currently in a major shit show due to a bunch of BS right wing propaganda videos, meaning PP is really fucking politicized right now. So as a democrat, you really need to be supporting PP to get those dem/women votes.

Like bro, what are you doing man

Bingo. However it looks like that wont stop some people from blowing it way out of proportion.

Hillary supporters love to feign disappointment in Bernie. The theater is apparent.

I almost prefer the outright hostility toward anyone leaning more toward Bernie, at least it's honest.

The groups supporting Hillary have every right to choose who they want, but they seem to be decisions from the top, without polling members or even following their own historical assessments - the Human Rights Campaign rates Bernie at a 100% and Hillary at 89%. Those are their own numbers! Are they meaningless? Who knows!

Maybe because they are not a government run subsidiary? So he sees them as a group that needs to be replaced by a government run system.

I mean if this story about him is true

“I don’t believe in charities,” Sanders said before explaining that he felt government should be responsible for social programs.

He's calling them "part of the establishment" because they've been propping up the same candidate that the establishment is propping up. His message has been all about dismantling the influence that the establishment has on candidates' viability for office and thus their immunity from policies that are in the best interest of the average citizen. So if Planned Parenthood is supporting the Wall Street candidate, Planned Parenthood is supporting Wall Street's influence over fiscal policy.

I wouldn't read any more into it than that. He's not condemning the work Planned Parenthood is doing; he's just commenting on the fact that they play a role in establishment candidates dominating politics (because they tend to contribute more to these candidates).
