Street Fighter V Beta 3 Thread: For when Star Wars is sold out.

Any reflections on how characters have evolved from Beta 3?

Karin's hurtbox has moved ever-so slightly forward. We're talking maybe a pixel. Some of her best pokes aren't as effective anymore at the certain ranges. Standing HP lost a little vertical on it's hitbox, making it less effective as an anti-air (c.HP is still outstanding) but standing MK is still godlike.

Her damage seems to be reduced slightly, too. That could be because of improved scaling or other factors, but my bnb didn't seem to do as much damage. She also gains Trigger way faster than before.
 
I think that clean-hit-to-kill requirement is pretty genius. It's a skillful comeback mechanic and it eliminates those stupid situation where you're technically dead because you got knocked down and your opponent has a good dp to chip out.
 
You should never be rewarded by being able to chip someone to death.
Your reward for constant pressure is keeping the opponent in an off balance position, if you want to finish the job then you need to be able to pull the trigger and not tip tap them or just spam.

I'm old school street fighter player man, chip has always been a big part of my strategy, I agree normals shouldn't chip but super moves and not just critical arts definitely should in my estimation. You shouldn't be able to turtle and have a chance to win by landing a stray normal on a guy who put you in the corner and is constantly applying pressure. I mean this is coming from a former Honda user so take this all with a grain of salt.
 
I mean...you must've lost all your healh before you die by "a stray normal". Then it becomes a deserved win in my book.

Unless I'm mistaken chip damage is still in the game, the only new thing is that you cannot land the finishing blow with chip damage unless it's with a critical art. Feel free to chip with fireballs or other specials as much as you want until they're at 1%.

That is correct. There is a shitload of chip in SFV (more than IV certainly), but it can no longer KO unless from CA.

Ding ding ding. They got the hit, you didn't. Just because you pressed a lot of buttons doesn't mean you should get a win even if you never opened them up.

Not that I really feel one way or another about SFV's chip vs classic SF chip.
 
Is anyone using the PS3 Hori Fighting Stick 3

Have no opportunity to test it myself and I'm looking forward to getting into SFV once it releases but I would prefer to not spending 100+ € for a new PS4 fightstick.

No PS3 sticks work on PS4. The only PS4 games that accept PS3 sticks are Skullgirls, MKX and Ultra SF4.
Capcom hasn't stated yet if SF5 will be compatible with PS3 sticks. They didn't work on the Beta.

I guess then I'll get the game day 1 and will buy a new fightstick at a later date if they won't support the old ones.

Got to play a little bit at a friend's house, and I like it for the most part, but I really don't like how chip works in the game...I feel as though you're no longer rewarded for applying constant pressure in clutch situations like you were in the past.

SMH. It's just the very opposite. Now since any normal attacks above weak hits causes grey damage as well, so it further dissuades excessive turtling, cuz 1 slip up means all that gray damage becomes actual damage, stacked on top of whatever hit them prior. It double boons as eliminating cheap, unwinnable situations of knocking down someone and trying to special move them on wake up early, since only supers can cause a chip damage win.

Also correct me If I'm wrong but FANG can convert chip into straight damage once he poisons the opponent
 
I've been playing primarily Birdie since Beta 1 and I just want to echo the sentiments that he is fun as all hell. Actually got a 12 game win streak with him and I don't think I've ever done that online before. Dude speaks to me.

I think he's fun as my 'once in a while' secondary character. Like Hakan. When you get in someone's head with him it's just hilarious. But eventually I get a really frustrating match where I couldn't get them off me and change to someone else.

Bison on the other hand, well, I barely have any motivation to even play the beta when he's not in. Haven't clicked with a character like this in a fighting game for a while, which is surprising since I never liked using him much before. Even just the design changes they made were perfect.
 
Man. I was really hoping the UI was placeholder art but I guess it's here to stay. It looks so tacky and out of place! I especially don't care for the monochrome portraits, bleh. Mayyyyybe we'll get a Super SF4-style make over but that seems outlandish given the new update model.
 
Even if cr.mk into fireball was or wasn't a block string it's not like people were trying to jump over it online anyway. No one did when I played last night.
 
What were the sources that leaked the costumes ?

Why is there no Ken ? They just didn't care or there was none in the beta files ?
 
Everytime I watch your matches I can't help but chuckle how DP trigger happy you are lol

Panic button. So far the game seems to about poking and fishing for CH set ups for max damage. So I think DPs are even better in this version. But no one is use to CC so that's obvioisly going to change in the coming weeks.

I have to say I am horribly disappointed at the Alpha GI being Ken's alt.

It's a wonderful design ! Completely butchered by amateurish modelization :/ .

Some of the alt costumes look so good. And yet the one guy that could really use a redesign gets an even worse model. That's really annoying.

I know this sounds shallow, but if I'm gonna put hundreds of hours into a character I'd like to at least like how he looks... (I'm also playing Cammy but Ken has always been mah guy :/ )

I'm really butthurt about this. Like it's such a tiny detail, and I shouldn't care, but it fucking ruins my fun a little to know my character got the worse treatment in the game (and recent nerfs didn't fucking help at all).

it just doesn't look right. somehow alpha ken looks older than regular ken. alpha ryu looks pretty bad too.

There will be more, its how they are going to keep getting money from people this time around is costumes and characters.

Huh, I thought the Alpha Ken model looked fine. Face is still off, but the hair looks decent (at least in comparison to the original's).

EDIT: Hair is pretty hit or miss in this game for a lot of characters in general. Alpha Ken got the better end of the stick, imo.

I mean, in the past, frame data would change every few patches, rendering day one guides useless from that perspective.

With the multiple betas and feedback Capcom has gathered, is it fair to think the game will stay the same over its entire lifetime?
 
Didn't know they added Ryu/Ken, that's nice.
When did physical guides start costing $40 Street Fighter V Collector's Edition Strategy Guide. I'm a sucker and preordered, love having a physical copy even though it's going to be outdated >_< Wish they had hitboxes though, might change my mind if sample content comes out and it looks bad.

Characters won't drastically change, but there will be subtle changes in numbers and ranges that you can account for.
