I think people will like it in the beginning because it's the opposite of SF4. But then it will tire on people in matches if they play a zoner or weaker rush down character and have to end the game.

You can

Throw
Use a critical art
Basically open them up with footies

Looks like people can't rely on dumb chip damage to get them through rounds. People will stay dangerous the whole time.

It is. Also encourages people to keep fighting, instead of just giving up rounds to build meter.

Also doesn't let the player in the lead get too comfy.

It is. Capcom really wants people to level up that yomi.

I still don't see how people are relying for chip damage to get them through rounds when it's being used to end the round they basically all but won.

Because, as Combofiend says, it defines the round at a certain point. Once you land an Ultra, you know for a fact that it's over. In SFV, they have to have enough meter to do a CA and land that shit for it to work or open you up. So therefore, there's a lot more leeway and allows people to actually take that win back and keep the opponent on their toes.

SFV is far more about footies and reading your opponent's mind. Killing with chip flies in the face of that.

Edit: See it like this. I'm losing a match against a guy and I'm on one pixel of health. All he needs to do is jab me or throw a fireball and I'm out. I could block, but that shit won't matter.

That was 4. In V, that person has to put in work the whole time, else I can come back with some big damage (since the damage is already really high), some setups, whatever. It encourages the player to not give up and that he can still win if he chooses to play defensively. He's not punished for blocking unless he guesses wrong and gets thrown or a CA hits him.

fundamentals like footsies are obviously very important in this game, just look at birdie, jab to headbutt to super deals like 40-50% of your health

That no-chip death thing is probably the most interesting mechanic in the game. Will definitely make matches very interesting when it comes down to a single pixel
