Just read the famitsu article and got a good look at the new rival character's design.

I am a really big fan of his design. Hope he joins the team or something at a point because dual pistols sounds fun!

Seriously, the character designs are the only thing that's putting me off.
They all look so stupid running around with soldiers that are just wearing normal armor.

But no, anyone complaining about the designs is just 'boob shaming' a fictional character, yes.

This pic should have been in the OP. I actually watched the trailer because of it.
This one is way off tho, doesn't release in JP until late '16, cross fingers for a U.S. release.
Will keep an eye out on it. I didn't cry at anything, however.

Is there an acceptable way to make a character with large breasts or is it automatically bad design? The people criticizing it try their harderst to reduce the character to just that, which is kind of ironic.

Really weird how this happens in every Valkyria thread.

Oh, I don't melt, don't worry. But yes I find them disgusting as well (not the game).
I wish they would use more regular sized boobs, then I would totally play the game.

It's just a personal preference, I don't find large (or rather gigantic) boobs attractive at all.

I suppose that depends how much you value character design in games.

It's probably the thing I hate to see most in female character designs, right next to armour with huge parts missing to show boobs/stomach/other rather than being armour.

I don't think I ever said anything to this regard.

To clarify: I am only mildy interested in Senran Kagura's gameplay in the first place. It's full of fan service though, so I would be more interested in it if said fan service were to match my taste.

Well, that type of clothing is par for the course for jrpg so it's just a weird about right now.

Beyond its gameplay? That was the unique feature that got the IP as far as it got in terms of its praise. And I seriously doubt anyone is going to argue that it became big enough to sustain a spin-off series. Personally that's what disappoints me the most. Supporting this means this is the direction the series is going, but I want to see the turn-based strategy gameplay even more than I want this real-time party with AI controlled characters. I play enough action RPGs like that.
 
You know how much back and shoulder pain large-breasted game characters have to endure? Yet we have people in this thread saying large-breasted game characters look ridiculous and that they don't want to play games with "those" characters in them. What jerks!

Once again that isn't how Selvaria was depicted in the original game, and that artwork is from a cheap, fan service-y browser/mobile card game.

New trailer made me want to see more! It's not the VC I know and love, but it looks interesting anyway. New wannabe-Selvaria still looks ridiculous with those boobs and cool with that scythe. Red outfit is still terrible.

So what kind of game is this? It's my understanding so far that it isn't a turn-based strategy game like Valkyria Chronicles, but more of an action RPG? Do you explore a world? Is it battles/missions like VC?
 
The game looks gorgeous. Never played any in the series but I'm up for starting with this one.

Also, why complain about exaggerated boobs in a video game? Just enjoy the game. I swear us humans are some times too emotional about certain things.

Yeah, it IS called variety. And every game has ridiculously busty characters. Especially Japanese games.

Might want to consider that.

I mean, they are kind of unnecessarily large and not proportionate to her frame. Won't affect the game itself, but I think fans who appreciate good character design and care about the image of female characters in video games have a right to say something about it. Gigantic boobs seem to be a thing in a lot of Eastern games.
 
I don't think large breasts add or subtract anything from the game. :l Why is that the largest discussion in this thread?

I really, really wish we were seeing gameplay. The score is pretty good though. Character design wasn't anything to write home about, but not awful either.

Actually, Japanese games normally have a wide variety of characters with a large variation between breast sizes, from very large to completely flat. Incidentally, this seems to be the case with this game as well.

Yet it seems that there's always someone that only points the finger at the big ones, ignoring the rest.

Exaggeration is essential to stylised character design - the enormous boobs being disproportionate to her frame is crucial in providing a memorable silhouette. And while everyone's entitled to their own taste, saying it's objectively bad design or socially regressive as opposed to something they're personally not fond of is just arrogant. Not everything is meant to appeal to everyone.
 
One of the big reasons I like Japanese games is that not everything has to be realistic or make sense in the real world

they're videogames, go nuts. Make weird designs that people find disgusting, fuck yeah. There are enough games that try to be ultra realistic

This. Actuelly japanese games probably have the most variety on this spectrum, unlike western games that are usually always in a middle size.

Anyway, it's sad to see threads about games devolve into this, and usually by close minded people. Not everything is supposed to be appealing to your tastes you know.

On topic, pretty sure we'll get this game localized, but until we get some gameplay footage, I'm really not sure what to think about this. Not sure they needed to make it a regular rpg but in a parallel universe.
 
Came here to talk about about a cool game and see slapfights. Such a sad state.

I'm very curious as to how they're trying to combine a ranged, realistic military style of shooting with rifles and strategic use of cover with the whole fantasy swords and sorcery aspects.
From what little I saw of VC3 it appeared the melee weapons were kind of overpowered? They had big ranges and could even hurt tanks and armor.
Also the description of the close range combat seriously reminds me of Lightning Returns.
