Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

What characters do you find hot out of interest? What kind of costumes would you like to see for them
From the SFV cast, I like Nash, Alex, Urien, Ryu, and Necalli most. (Plus Abel, Eagle and T. Hawk.) As for outfits, it's really not that difficult.

-Alex, for example. He's already got a good base attire to work with. His (supposed) SFV look is already pretty great. As I said above, have him tear off the shirt in his intro, add some more rips to the jeans so we can see some skin (which is also quite the trend in menswear currently) and we've already got a winner. Then give him his SFIII outfit (again, with shirt ripping), and his wrestling shorts & boots as alts, and you've got three great outfits.
-Ryu already has his "Hot" alt, so that's a start. There was a concept from SFIV for him in some white MMA shorts, and I think that would be another nice one, and it would suit his character. A fundoshi alt it we're really going for it.
-Nash has always been a stylish character, so I could see him in a nice swimsuit like a pair of speedos or some squarecuts. Change his glasses to sunglasses. Beach alt. A workout gear alt would be suitable too I think. Some compression shorts/tights, some cool athletic shoes. Accent his watch and dog tags. Pretty straightforward. (Give Guile a similar outfit too as I imagine they worked out together in the past. We've already seen with Mika and Zangief that complementary alts are gonna be a thing.)
-Ken has had a tuxedo in the past, but they could jazz it up a bit by losing the jacket, unbuttoning the shirt, and having the bow tie hang loose. That's not even that much skin showing, but it would still be sexy. (Like a pseudo Chippendales/Bond vibe.)
-Urien needs his thong. There's no way around this. Removing it would be a crime.
-T. Hawk needs a default update desperately. A nice brown leather jacket, unzipped, no shirt underneath. Hair pulled back with an understated hair ornament of some sort. Some dark colored jeans with some nice boots. Accent his jacket with a motif that references his culture, but not in a cartoony way. Modern & sexy.
-Eagle? Suspenders on bare skin. It's hot. He's also a character that's particularly fashionable, so I could easily see him some more daring outfits.
-Abel already has a really nice selection of outfits, it's just his SFIV character model doesn't really show them off that well. (Which can be said for any character in that game really.) Just seeing them rendered in the SFV style would be awesome. His wrestling singlet and commando holster outfits in particular are great. (The swimsuit is good too, just shorten the length.)
-Dudley is a boxer, where's his boxing shorts alt? (He could put on his ring robe at the end of the fight as opposed to his jacket.)
-Have Cody roll down his prison jumpsuit and tie it at the waist. No shirt underneath.
-Lose the top of the gi for Guy and have just the mesh undershirt. (This would be a great outfit for a reintroduced Geki too.)
-Give Sean a beach outfit to match his sister's.
-Guile in a ripped up military dress uniform. Battle damage alts are great.
-Characters like Necalli and M. Bison are a bit tougher as their actions really dictate their appearance, but I think Necalli's default is already pretty awesome, and Bison's ripped up jacket is hot. (The could add some more tears though.)

I could keep going, but I think you get the picture. It's really not that hard to beef it up. With lots of the male characterss, you can really just remove or alter a few aspects of their regular outfits. General alt ideas like swimsuits, scant workout gear, Formfitting clothes with the buttons/straps undone a bit, various sports uniforms/outfits with some articles missing, battle damage alts, etc. would work for pretty much anyone. And just as important as the outfits, let the guys have some poses and such that show them off. Look at almost every single female intro/special pose and compare it to the poses the guys make. I'm not saying have them make the exact same movements, but something that conveys the same intent.

I'm very interested to see how Capcom is going to handle costumes throughout the life of this game. I have a feeling we will be seeing more costumes than we did in SF4.

cammy will wear her pants like this

for the 90's rap costume pack

wooooow that brings me back. I wonder how many people could actually name this group without looking them up first.

Cammy's outfits consist of a unitard, a different unitard, and a coat over a pair of black panties. Laura wears a thong over, and under her clothes. R. Mika is running out of fabric to cut heart-shaped holes in, etc. Alex's entire wardrobe should look like he's auditioning for the next Magic Mike movie.

(Though a big yes to the wrestling alt. Those green shorts need to their time to shine.)

Zangief's main outfit has him wearing basically underwear and no top. "Hot Ryu" has him topless
When are we getting topless female alt costumes?

#equalopportunity

In all seriousness I think you're getting a decent amount of manservice, but yeah some of the female outfits are a bit too much for my tastes.

However I'm a Karin player and I'm happy with the way they are dressing her in this game, so I don't really have any complaints.

-Urien needs his thong. There's no way around this. Removing it would be a crime.

I thought you wanted more male fanservice, not less.

-Eagle? Suspenders on bare skin. It's hot. He's also a character that's particularly fashionable, so I could easily see him some more daring outfits.

Eagle hasn't gotten a lot of attention in the SF universe but having him wearing outfits that show a lot of skin contrasts pretty heavily with my image of him, similar to how I view Karin. The rest of your suggestions seem pretty reasonable and not out of place.

90s rap costume pack seems like the best, most underexplored theme for a costume pack ever.

Slick Rick Sagat pls

Who gets to be Nas, who gets that cursed blessing?

Also who would chun li be?

Nicalli is busta rhymes, and gimmi some more, becomes his theme.

Zangief being topless is not fanservice. Is Fei Long fanservice too now? I guess Birdie is fanservice as well! After all, you can see most of the top portion of his body. According to you, E. Honda is sexualized! He's shirtless after all!

Nah.

Ryu is though. To say there's plenty of male fan service shows you obviously aren't attracted to men and have no fucking clue what you're talking about as you apply male sexuality application to female sexuality. You're basically telling me "Surely, men get off on women when they show skin, surely all women must be attracted to any shirtless man and any shirtless man is male sexualization and Fan service because that's how it works when women are sexualized! Female and male sexuality works the exact same way!" All of the female characters except Karin are sexualized. Out of the male characters, only really Hot Ryu is sexualized. A topless man does not a sexualized male character make.

I wouldn't say it's a decent amount, but there is some. They could do a lot better though. Some of the alts, like Rashid and Vega's for example, are quite bland. Definite missed opportunities. Zangief is a tough example, because even though he's showing a lot of skin, and lots of people find him attractive (myself included), he's not being portrayed in a sexual fashion. His physique is primarily played for laughs as an over the top expression of strength and machismo, not something that's on display for the benefit of gay men and straight women. (Though again, that doesn't discount his appeal in spite of that.) It's not strictly what a character is wearing, but how they're portrayed, and the intent behind it as well.

Considering that Eagle is partially inspired by Freddie Mercury, who was known to wear some pretty revealing things, I don't think it's a stretch to picture Eagle in something similar. With Karin's first alt, I'm not so sure they're gonna stick with that particular image of her entirely either, I guess we'll see. (I'd like her to style to remain relatively the same too, but that's a pretty short dress she's wearing in her alt, and I doubt she's got shorts on underneath.)

As far as what we'll see overall, I don't think what I'm suggesting is unreasonable at all either, but many people are not accustom to thinking about male characters in this way, so as I said before, you've got to really push sometimes. I think once we see how Alex and Urien look (and Guile too, I suppose), and what the rest of the first batch of premium alts looks like, we'll have a better idea of if Capcom is really taking the success of Hot Ryu to heart, and earnestly trying to balance the scales.

What are some characters that you guys want to see that you don't use, appreciate what they bring, just enjoy watching, etc.

Personally, I'd love to have these characters return:

- Hugo (I just love the fact that he's the tallest character in the game, feeling like his hits have major impact)
- Necro
- C. Viper
- Gen (He can switch stances, and with the way Vega's V-Skill works. It could lead to some interesting combos)
- Rose
- Seth (I know many people would hate this, but I feel they can do more with him. Especially if they take some stuff from his Omega version with possibly more of his own moves.)

I liked playing Seth and I don't want him to return, fuck that.

Just only bring back characters that have a good reason to appear storywise, like Gouki/Akuma, Rose, & Sakura (& maybe other characters like Gen & Guy).

Characters like E.Honda, El Fuerte, Adon, Sagat, Hakan, Abel, Dan, Rufus, Seth, & Blanka? No reason to bring them back one bit as they'll most likely take up slots of other characters that have legitimate reasons for being in.

E.Honda, Blanka, Sagat - SF2
Dan - Popular joke character
Hakan - Unique grappler
Don't really mind Adon and I don't really know how people feel about him overall. His moveset isn't really special though but he does have story connection with Sagat and he's a SF1 character for what its worth.

The rest don't have any place in coming back, imo.
Rufus seems to be generally disliked
Seth is extremely boring visually and his moveset is just from other characters
Fuck El Fuerte.
I think Abel is extremely boring but he does have fans so idk
I think we all agree Hakan should never return, right? Not unless he gets a major character design.

Nah. Hakan is pretty cool. Pretty unique character in both visual and gameplay design.

If we're talking plot reasons, Abel would definitely have a reason to come back due to his connection to Guile and Nash, who will seemingly have a large role in SFV's story. I also just want to see him return because I like him.

I don't really care to make lists of who I do not want to return because I don't think it's a productive way to discuss the game. It only leads to arguments that serve no purpose IMO. Every character has their fans, and roster discussion can already get contentious enough as it is.

I thought I made it pretty clear that I was joking about topless male characters being justification for topless female characters. If it wasn't apparent, I'll clarify that I was in fact joking.

I think what a person finds attractive varies from person to person. I don't think it's a blanket thing to say women aren't turned on by guys showing skin and men are turned on by women showing skin.

For example if you read my post I said that I thought a lot of the female outfits went too far, IMO they look trashy in a lot of cases. I am not attracted to men but the guy I was replying to is and he posted a lost of what he thought would be attractive alts for a lot of the male cast which largely involved showing skin. Even a lot of the appeal of the "Hot Ryu" outfit seems to be that it's showing skin.

I'm not going to claim to know what exactly females find attractive but I think having a bunch of guys in good shape with thier shirts off is at least a decent level of manservice. It really depends what you like though.

It's true that they did work some Freddy Mercury into his character when they brought him back for CvS2, so I guess it wouldn't be totally uncalled for knowing Freddy, but it doesnt fit the image I have for him personally. I guess we'll see what they do with him if they bring him back though.

I don't think the alt they found for Karin is out of line.I suppose the skirt could be a bit longer but I wouldn't really call it short. I've seen some footage of it on YouTube and I don't recall seeing anything that I shouldn't be seeing, but I guess I wasn't looking for it either. It's pretty much in line with what I was expecting her to wear if they brought her back and aged her appropriately, but I think they did much better with her main outfit. Either way I don't think the dress's looks trashy or fanservicey like a lot of the female outfits do.

I want to see most of the SFIV cast return. Only ones I don't care for are Oni and E. Ryu. Fuerte seems like he'd have all tyoes of fun v-trigger stuff. So does C Viper. Rufus, Abel and Hakan are just interesting additions to exiating archtypes. Seeing what they'd fet in the V system seems cool.

Rose would fit right into the games story.

Salura and Sean would be nice souns on shotos in this one since Ken and Ryu already feel very different.

I guess we should start with actually getting Eagle in the game first, then we can worry more about his appearance. I think he's an excellent candidate to bring back though, and I'm hoping he's got both the Robert Baker intensity (his original inspiration), with some Freddie Mercury flair and sex appeal. (Though in suitable doses for each. I'd much rather he be his own character, as opposed to a caricature of someone else.)

As for Karin, I don't think her dress is overly fanservice oriented either, just that I can see a trend where they might move in that direction with her, as they have with every other female character so far.

Man, I can't wait for Eagle to make a return to Street Fighter. Hopefully. I need muh bouncer.

You know, I wonder if they'll bring in another SF1 character in? Lee, Retsu, or Geki.

I want to see most of the SFIV cast return.

Nah, we don't need SF V to be SF IV: Part 2. Characters like Rose, Gouki/Akuma, Sean, Abel, Sakura, Guile, Boxer, etc., I can understand, because of the strong connections to other characters like Nash, Ryu, Laura, & Dictator.

The rest, I just don't see it. If you're going to bring back characters that doesn't have strong connections to other characters, then at least bring back ones that truly deserve to be in.
