Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

I know it would never happen, but if they DID bring us a tekken character that isn't Kazuya or Jin... god I would love King.

We have 2 pro wrestlers already, and it'd be sick to get him to play sort of like he did in SFxT with those knee combos.

The only reason I wish SFxT wasn't dead as fuck is because King and Steve Fox in that game were some of THE MOST FUN I've had playing any characters. Their combos were just SO fun to do and watch. Ugh.

I dunno... as long as there is a Ryu in the game... Akuma must be there. Storyline wise he is Ryu's real enemy

I don't know why capcom has an irrational fear of moving beyond 3s canonically. Second numbered game in a row that takes place before 3. It's not like they're obliged to use the characters of the mechanics of 3. Just move the story along already. Outside of Urien and Alex, Q or Oro would be my next picks from the 3s roster.

Sure, but if they're doing story over time, and tying up the Guile/Nash story line from SF2, covering the fall(?) of Shadaloo, and transitioning to the SF3 story, The Ryu/Akuma story may be a slow burn or in the background and may not come to a head until much later.

I agree. As long they only bring over 1 or 2 characters only. Don't want it to be a mess.

Edit: Ono doubled down saying they're putting a lot of effort into SFV’s story. Well, show us something then.

SF3 is only set 3 years after SF4, so unless they jumped 10+ years into the future (which is very unlikely) I'm pretty sure the WW's would be fine.

Although I do think Sean has the potential to become DLC down the line, I'm interested to know what exactly makes you think he'll be DLC.

true... i can imagine if he is able to be unlocked via battle points or some condition in the story... his story may be more of an offshoot and focuses strictly on Ryu rather than something necessary where it involves multiple characters

Street Fighter 3 introduced new characters without fleshing out their backstory unlike what they did with the SF2 / Alpha cast that received story and character explanation not only in game but in film as well. With SF4 we get to see many of these characters in more detail and SFV should further elaborate in that... if SFV did everything right... it will make people want to replay SF3 with a better understanding of the characters and how things were setup for Gill's rise.
 
Necro for 2017. He does play a part in the story, being an experiment from the Illuminati. He's another Russian character, with his own take on the stretchy limbs.

I just want him and Dhalsim in the same game, dammit!
 
I hope they explore the Gen and Gouken shit. While it wasn't canon, there was some good speculation that both dudes were revived by Sin, and that's why they make remarks about being dead already.

Seeing as Sodom almost made it to the roster, I'm sure that he'll be back soon enough.

Wrong. I really like everything about Hakan in SSF4. I hate it when people were like "we all" or "all of us" when we were talking about options because not everyone have same opinions.

This. Shotos are popular , but that doesn't mean you fill the roster with them. You need balance. Heck if you just put the most popular characters in the game , literally all of them are shotos bar Chun,Cammy,Guile.


Also notice how the Roster and DLC Wave 1 are very focused on Shadoloo/Illuminati.
Alex,Urien,Rog,Guile,Juri. The only exception is Ibuki.

I wonder if Wave 2 will be more focused on Shoto storyline so you will get Akuma,Sagat,Sakura and Maybe even Oro ( Ryus new master ).

Or a Final Fight story pack Cody,Guy,Sodom,Haggar..etc
 
I can't wait to see Guile. Like fuck man. I'm so excited. All of the redesigns have been awesome. I wanna know what they're going to do with him so bad.

Maybe he'll join the beard club! Although I see Guile as more of a sick mustache only kinda guy.
 
Neither Guile, Alex, or Ibuki are either Shadaloo or Illuminati characters.

Plus Sagat isn't exactly a shoto character in the martial art sense like Ryu, Ken, Gouki/Akuma, Dan, Sakura, Sean, or Gouken are.

Judging from interviews, it seems like the plan is to keep the story going through the DLC waves, so this is very likely.

I can see where you are coming from, but Guile has always had run-ins with Shadaloo. As well as that, Nash has been resurrected by Gill and Urien to do the Illuminati's bidding, so Guile will absolutely be involved with them. Alex has no link to Shadaloo but seeing as the DLC is probably moving into Illumniati territory, it was said back in the SF3 days that both Alex and Gill have been destined to intertwine before either of them were even born. Basically, wherever the Illuminati go, Alex goes. You are right about Ibuki though.

EDIT: I forgot about Ibuki's storyline in SF3.

Charlie is connected to both Shadaloo (who killed him) & the Illuminati (who revived him), so Guile is connected by association to Charlie. And even then, Guile has always had run-ins with Bison & the rest of Shadaloo. Alex ends up having a beef with the Illuminati when Gill seriously injured Tom, & Ibuki was hired to infiltrate the Illuminati to retrieve top-secret info related to the G-File project.

You're right about Alex & Charlie, but you forgot Ibuki's tie to the Illuminati (see the response above).
 
The reason they aren't going past SF3 is because no one knows SF3's story.

That's not going to be an issue after SF5- they'll be able to jump past SF3 when they do SF6.

This is probably slight OT but my god, the front page of r/kappa is one of the most pathetic things I've seen. But I suppose it's on par for reddit stuff.
 
What I want (and why):

Dee-Jay: mix of rushdown and zoning. Fits the "nationality quota" Capcom wants.
Akuma: make him play like he always has, just less oki setups.
Sagat: zoning character but give him more knee attacks.
Rolento: fulfills the rekka quota. More emphasis on footsies than his roll.
Oro: not sure how I want him to play since I barely used him. But I like his design.
Dudley: heavy rushdown as always.

How about:
Cody: cuffed and uncuffed version?
E. Honda: sumo salt attack that acts as a setup projectile.
Genki - he looks cool.
Guy - ditto.
Rose - give her scarf attacks that pull you in?

Just thinking aloud.
 
Bearded Ryu is a great look but Guile is a no-go, for me at least. Needs to keep that Army man aesthetic. The flat top is an exaggerated army crew cut so I think that still falls under the same look even though it's too outlandish for real life.
 
We will get more Shotos in this game, it's just that their fighting styles will change a great amount. Ken for example, if his fighting style greatly changed expect the same to happen for other Shotos. Then again we might not get some until later packs. I can see 2 coming back in DLC 2 next year and then possibly some more in DLC 3. I just don't think they'll bring any Shoto back without revamping their fighting style like they changed Ken's.

- Akuma's definitely coming back, probably DLC 2. I'd be surprised if he wasn't considering the storyline aspect of things.
- Evil Ryu, I doubt he's coming back. There's no need for him. Just change Ryu's skin to look like Evil Ryu or something. Give him an Evil Ryu alt.
- Sakura is definitely coming back. Mind you, her fighting style was experimental canon-wise and she was young back then. Have her be older and have a more refined serious fighting style and she's good. If anything, out of all the Shotos her fighting style would probably be the easiest to revamp considering it makes sense for it to change over time compared to the rest. She'll be in DLC 2, she also has the Karin connection and she's even been brought up in post-match quotes for V.
- Dan, I don't see him coming back, at all.
- Sagat might come back but it depends how and it might not be until DLC 3.
- Oni, we'll see but if he does it'll be DLC 3. At the same time we don't know how Akuma's going to play. I won't be surprised to see Akuma's V-Trigger being sorta-Oni related to save a spot, who knows.
- Gouken, not coming back at all.
- Sean, not coming back, no space for dude.

That'll be it. I only see 2 having an extremely high chance of coming back. The others gotta fight for a spot.

He qualified the statement by saying it was "In a Street Fighter way" in a conversation which was largely about SF not really having a story so I wouldn't look into it too much.

Iirc Oni wasn't canon, so him being a separate character is probably not going to happen. It'd be pretty much a waste of character slot. I mentioned this before, but Shin mode would make perfect sense for Akuma's V-Trigger. Gimme those double air fireballs.

I can't remember who mentioned it when that whole 7th slot business got brought up, but I like the idea of Kazuya making a guest appearance now that Akuma is in T7. I could see something like his wavedash be his V-Skill and Devil Kazuya as his V-Trigger. The way those Tekken characters played was one of the best things of SFxT.

I still wonder what they're going to do with Urien. Perhaps it'll be somewhat similar to Rashid; Aegis as V-Trigger (mostly for setups and does minor damage in itself) and maybe a reworked Tyrant Slaughter as his Critical Art.
