Fire Emblem Fates' localization doesn't have the petting minigame

It not being on a dead system was the biggest help (or a direct sequel to a game on a dead system). Modern UI, really fast gameplay were also godsends.

Avatar system helped (but it didn't save 12). I would say the biggest thing is that's nice looking for an RTS and did the proper callbacks to the right games (3 and 4) with the world (3) and the shipping element found in 4.

It also wasn't butt ugly like 11 and 12.

I wonder if I purposely skipped Micaiah or not, I mean I really didn't mean to but I think I did.

Awakening was very colorful and beautifully animated. Wish the console games were like that.

Also Micaiah is the worst fire emblem character. Its a fact. I swear.

This looks dumb but also not offensive. Why not just make it optional. Everyone would win

It should be noted that if they remove the minigame, they could potentially still leave in the Live2D assets and dialogue, it'd just function as Barracks did without any prompt to actually touch the character but have a simple one-way conversation. That touching part (skinship) is specifically the minigame that triggers dialogue..

See this I'd actually prefer since it'd make things more convenient. Touching minigames are boring if the Pokemon one is anything to go by but I still want to be able to look at the nicely made models and get the dialogue.

But I've seen Nintendo cut enough content to know that'd be unlikely. :l

How is having a serious war drama with relationships not a focused SRPG with a serious tone?
There were relationships in Fire Emblem even in games that didn't have marriage as a gameplay system. I'm not arguing that romance should be eliminated from the narrative.

Then what the hell are you arguing? Fire Emblem has only improved over the years. and a lot of it is due to the inclusion of relationships.

The way you made it sound was as if they went full Huniepop with the franchise, which isn't what happened at all.

Honestly if the dialogues still in the game then I can deal with these changes but Nintendo haven't really given any reason to believe otherwise.

Well right now we have conflicting localization information because Private Quarter (My Room) still existed as recently as IGNs preview. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0C3Y3eevXY&feature=youtu.be&t=2m49s)

How can this room exist... if none of its accompanying content exists? This is illogical.

These are effectively mutually exclusive realities. The content cannot just have been removed but then be in the game at the same time. Something has to be there, the question is what it was changed to be. What function does "Private Quarters" have in the game? Did they just leave in Corrin's hairstyle/outfit option (the only other purpose for this room)... in a room called "Private Quarters"?

What's the exclamation mark for? An urgent need to change your outfit/hairstyle? Did Snake break in and steal your make-up kit?

Cut content is almost never done well. They almost always screw up a mechanical tie somewhere when doing it. On the other hand this has had an unusually long localisation period so maybe they've been more thorough than normal but I'm not going to bet money on it.

Whats gonna happen to all the Live2D assets then?

So all the resources that went into making the Live2D models will be 100% removed from the western version of FE Fates?

No more MyRoom?

Sigh. I've long since cancelled my preorder for the CE because I knew things could be changed/cut and Nintendo continues to confirm this. In the year of 2016, it comes back to that fact that I can no longer trust Nintendo with their localizations anymore. I think that's pretty sad. =(

Oh well, I would have been too busy playing SFV too much to play this anyway! =P

When they came for Tharja's ass, we all knew this would happen. It's a slippery slope. Taking away things from the game I mean. Not Tharja's ass. Tharja's ass is not slippery. I mean

Previous to Awakening, marriage had only been a core element of the gameplay in one game (and it was done pretty different). It's silly to pretend Awakening and Fates haven't increased the focus in shipping and fanservice - and just to be clear, I don't think there's anything wrong with liking that. But it's certainly not for everyone, and I celebrate that this product will have a lesser focus on stuff I find detracting from the game.

Wait but Capcom also "self censored"

The Live2D models should still be used for the confession scenes.

Honestly I'm more annoyed that we're getting more dubbing rather than a subtitled option.

Maybe NX will allow me to choose a voice language. After hearing Tatsu for hours in Xenoblade my ears started bleeding.

So in other words, you don't like that aspect despite the fact it saved the franchise from dying and applaud any action in mitigating that aspect that you don't like.

You don't want romance eliminated from the game, just for it to be suppressed as much as possible. Gotcha.

FE has had supports and relationships for a while now.

I should have reworded to "increased focus on relationships."

Hopefully the stuff that actually maters is still in there then. Fingers crossed.

The ! is specifically for skinship events as well.

We have very strange, potentially very poor (or simply misleading but not by intention) reporting going on right now that is stirring controversy.

Yeah I was gonna ask about that footage since people have been spreading it around as proof that that Kotaku is misreporting things and making it up but that's nonsensical. Nintendo's clearly changing something. I just wish we knew the way that went about it.

But really it could just be that they hadn't gotten around to removing things in that build. I don't know.

Nintendo of America being Nintendo of America, not much more to say really they have been Censoring content since the NES, not like they would stop now.

And yes this is Censorship, don't try to act like it isn't.

We're calling it localization now. Get with the times grandpa. :^)

I want to comment on this. Firstly, I respect the opinion of people that were interested in this because it did offer an avenue for homosexual affection in the game. If you're disappointed by the removal of the minigame on those grounds, I can understand that. However, I don't think the aim of this is to make the game more heteronormative. I think what they are trying to address here are objections to the minigame itself, not that the minigame allows dudes to rub other dudes' faces. If the objection was simply to that and the solution was to only allow heterosexual face rubbing, I'd be up in arms too. But I think removal of the gay-friendly pseudo-relationship stuff is simply an unfortunate side-effect of removing the minigame for completely different reasons.

Parsing the removal in this way only makes LGBT players who would have enjoyed the possibility of having more same-sex interaction in the game into collateral damage for an alteration of content that was already made for seemingly specious reasons. "We cut the gay stuff 'cause people were mad about it for other reasons" isn't a very meaningful defense.

I was pretty indifferent toward this because I'm not particularly interested in the game to begin with, but this plot twist suddenly makes the removal take on a whole new dimension, to my mind, intentional or not.

One can say she Lyn started that trend.

Poor Caeda and Eirika otoh.

I didn't forget Celica, L95 Just keeping you on your toes!

Heh heh heh.

No and no.

The live 2d assets are also used for confessions, though that is admittedly brief.

My room is also used for changing hairstyle and the Avatar's accessories.

Best to just assume its been removed. So I won't be let down even harder for when its officially shown to not be there.

Censorship would be if a governing body forced these changes upon the creators.

The creators WILLFULLY CHANGING THEIR OWN WORK is not censorship.

It clearly was not "just removed" though when the feature is clearly still being used in the game (and its ! mark has only had one purpose in its pre-localized game). Its been changed, to what degree we have no idea, but the Private Quarters functionality is clearly still in the game.

How can something have been removed in its entirety while still being in the game?

From the start I thought something was off about the quote on Kotaku. It would be hilarious if this was a misunderstanding.

But I'm not getting my hopes up

Take your creepymeme away and give an actual argument and reason

It's always been a niche game, and it only got great sales thanks to it becoming more anime with Awakening.

There was no reason for the minigame to go that was legitimate.

There's (poor, shitty) reasons to remove apparently homosexual content, but at least there's actual, bad reasons there.

The drug convo just sounded weird. I haven't watched a certain video that explained it in depth so I'm not going to hold an opinion on that.
It got better sales because the gameplay was a lot more accessible, and came out after smash made people more interested in the series, the last game before it came out 5 years prior and before brawl. It was also the first game in the series that got real marketing in the west. It wasn't less anime before it always had an anime art style.

I recall seeing a post on IGN by one of the mods (Otero I think) that said that its no longer in the game.

Someone took a screenshot of it. I think I saw the screen on serenesforest.

Well the Live2D assets look great IMO. Removing the petting feature is one thing, but removing the chance to interact with characters in the Live2D mode, somehow, seems like a wasteful move.

Couldn't the petting thing just be removed, you know? And add in some meaningful convos instead in the Live2D mode?

So basically, this signals the end of character interaction between the Avatar and the spouse post-marriage? Because the "petting" aspect as been removed.

Wow, Treehouse developed Fire Emblem Fates? That's amazing!

Or wait, are you saying Intelligent Systems patched it out of the Japanese version?

By this definition the Catholic Church and religious movements in general never censored anything. I'm pretty sure that you'll have a hard time making that argument with a straight face.

Alright, this makes me slightly more hopeful.

There's of course still the possibility it was meant to be in the game but removed, and that video just a remnant from that time.

But what part? The petting? The entire conversation? The petting and the conversations? The entire room (clearly not)?

"!" is very clearly in their preview video, a localized product, so the question becomes what has that room and its "!" been changed to represent as its hasn't been completely stripped out. That "!" has no purpose without something to do with the only other feature of Private Quarters/My Room.

Ah yes the religion of waifu

edit: ugh this is a shitty top of the page post I hope you all are on 100ppp
