Serkan Toto Rumor: Bandai Namco making several NX games, including a Smash for launch

Might as well dust this off:

Squirtle was the best in Brawl... :(

Or not at all because this will just be a straight port with all the DLC/patches...
Why should we assume that? Of course, we don't know either way, but I think it makes far more sense to just build off of what they've already got this time around then scrap everything and make an entirely new Smash Bros. Just port the Wii U version over, add some more content, and that's that. That's all they really need to do.

Should Smash 5 be this at launch, where it's a ground-up new game tailor-made for NX, but it's like this:

- Classic mode like Smash 4 at launch.
- Online obviously.
- 20-odd characters to start, 12 being from all of 64's, plus a few favs from the later games (Mewtwo, Sonic, Bayonetta, Cloud, Ice Climbers, Wolf, etc) plus new ones (K. Rool, Bomberman, Banjo, etc).
- Entire gen is just gradually updating the game. Gradually adding in every character from previous games (likely sans Snake), new modes, trophies, the works.
- At least one all-new mode at the start.
- Huge list of content announcement that basically outlines the first year (or at least the first 6 months) of new additions to not make it feel so light on content.
- First year of content is free ala Splatoon.

You get the idea. Would this be feasible as long as we get a pretty decent-sized game (like 64-size) at launch day but with the promise and initial list of the rest of the content? I mean it's that or wait 4 years for it and it'll still have more DLC anyway.

Edit: You may ask, why not just port Smash 4 and go from there?

I'm not a fan of how Smash 4 looks and the way it is, I think with the hardware available, it'd be perfect to start fresh. Like many models feel like they need serious overhauls anyway (Fox, DK, etc). An updated art style would be great also. Tales of Vesperia-style would be gorgeous, or at least try to make every character the way they should look in their respective series.

Then support it for a billion years with DLC. This is honestly what I think is the most likely.
I hope we get more kinds of DLC too, like alternate costumes.

Where did the idea of a New smash game come from? It probably gonna be a quick and easy port.

Your setting yourself for disappointment with this new characters talk.

WAY too tight

Just sounds ridiculous to have ANOTHER ground up game made this close to Smash 4 content

A quick port wouldn't do anything.

You add Ice Climbers and some random new comer and now it's a system seller.

I don't think it'll be a new game, but I don't think it'll just be Smash 4 GOTY edition either.

Why should we assume that?

Because the keyword here is that they want it in time for the launch of the NX and the only way that will happen is if it is a straight port/Complete Edition of Smash 4's Wii U version. Adding additional characters takes time, especially new ones and they would be forced to once again go through a process of balancing the new characters with the old all the while porting the game to the NX.. That doesn't seem like a project that would be finished in time by the end of the year or, if we want to stretch things a little longer than that, next year.

You saw how long it took them to release DLC characters for Smash 4. Now just try to add characters while they actually need to work on porting the game to the NX and characters aren't just their focus/priority.

Of course, it was a smaller team but still the bulk of the work would assumed to be on the porting itself and any new content wouldn't be budgeted into it because it's a port job -- it's supposed to be inexpensive for easy profit.

I'm thinking Smash Wii U port is most likely.

I see them throwing in goodies like Ice Climbers, potentially (hopefully) Wolf, and the 3DS exclusive stages and Smash Run.

Just do the above and you will convince us all to triple dip.

It will get me to do so anyway.

Its Smash, add the DLC and a new cover and people would still buy it. If this is their big launch title game then, yes a quick port won't be good, but I feel they have better launch games coming and Smash is there for easy money.

Eh, they've had time to develop new content AND they need a way to sell it to people who already own it on wiiu/3DS. I'd expect SOMETHING more than a port. Only way they can get away with a STRAIGHT port is if it's free for everyone who bought it on wii u or 3DS.

Well it is meant to sell the best smash game, with everything, to those who didnt buy a WiiU.... which is a pretty big number

Not to mention those who want to upgrade no matter what

Its a slam dunk no matter how you slice it

In a year and a half they added three vets, four new comers, and nine stages (four old, five new). And this was with a smaller team than the base game had.

With more resources and a larger team, more like a proper product (and not just DLC), they could get 4-5 more characters, some 3DS stage ports and some addition stuff into the game, likely with no issues at all.

Yeah, I think it's perfectly rational to think it could be a "new" game built directly on top of Smash 4, kinda like a Smash 4.5.

But we don't know if the devs would bother changing Smash 4 without Sakurai, who may have moved on to a passion project.

If thats the case, I should have multiple free copies of Resident Evil 4 jk

Seriously tho, I just can't see them making a new game so fast because of all the patches and the last direct. Maybe it is a 64-Melee situation.
Well hey, Congrats Melee HD!

You want to sell it to both new and old, no? A much much much smaller portion of existing customers would buy it if there is no new content. I mean, honestly, we don't know enough about the NX to know if it'll appeal to anyone that isn't already an existing fan. There's a chance NX still only sells to nintendo fans, AGAIN, just like Wii U, and in that case, almost all of them will already have the exact same game on Wii U? How many do you expect to double dip without new content? Hell, I don't even know that I would.

It needs SOMETHING, ANYTHING. Throw a bone to existing fans as they're almost assuredly the largest customer base for this game, at least at launch.

What about Wii U? ;_;

Smash 4 NX:

-All 84 Stages
-All characters, including DLC
-Smash Run Port
-Small tweaks (Purchasable custom moves/accessories/Mii Items, Hazzard Toggle, balancing concerns.)
-11 new characters
5 from the companies absorbed by the 3rd parties. I.e. Taito, Enix, Eidos, Atlus, Hudson
5 top requested Nintendo characters from the ballot (Calie/Marie, Marshall, etc...)
1 new Mii Form (Mage)
-4 Returning characters (Snake, Ice Climbers, Wolf, Pichu)
-6 new stages based on new franchises
-More Songs
-More Trophies

Unlikley as fuck, but I'd love it.

Agreed

I cant imagine they would Combine all the WiiU/3DS content and just call it a day

They need a bonus and a trajectory for the future

That said.... Definitive Edition and DONE is still on the table of something they could end up doing

But they can't really call it HD or remaster as it's already 1080p!

Now maybe that means the portable NX will have the same one this time.

Pichu over Squirtle? C'mon son.
