As much as I love the DZ I hope that's not the case.
As a small example of loot (rng?) I got only green gear in DZ last night. Two blue items in open play though. So at least for me the gear was better outside.
IIRC playing missions in hard mode increases gear drop rate and quality. I'm hoping for some Heroic (group only) level missions at end game with awesome loot.

Shit no, we've barely scratched the surface. Appearance customisation (you can find new clothes) and weapons upgrades, skill points and perks. Deffo an RPG shooter but only thing not really there is player driven dialogue.

As of now, DZ is more or less the end game. The vendor shops in DZ is where you currently purchase high end weapons.
This is only with what we have from the beta though. I imagine they'll expand out with PVE stuff but so far DZ is the main place for all the good stuff.

Beta works and looks great, much better than alpha. Already preordered Gold Edition, but I still need more info about the end-game content.

Anyone else annoyed by the unresponsive aiming? There's this amount of input lag that makes me not like it. I guess I'm just spoiled by all the 60fps shooters we got this gen and then you get this.

I take back what I said about the Beta looking very similar to the alpha btw. There are a lot more weather scenarios and lighting effects that I didn't notice in the Alpha.
And I would imagine it should look better by release? This must be an older build?

Well my first impressions of this game are pretty bad.
The cover system is way less intuitive that even Gears of War from 10 years ago. It feels very clunky and not very "snappy." I also find the combat itself to be pretty boring, but that could just be because we don't have the interesting abilities and perks unlocked yet. I mean I understand that they want the game to be realistic and not have crazy maneuverability like Gears or Vanquish, so I figured there would be more tactical or stealth options to change up the combat.
The worst part is that the mission structure is just walk to room with chest-high walls and kill waves of enemies -> walk through hallway with a few loot boxes -> walk to room with chest-high walls and kill waves of enemies. These non-dark zone missions seem stuck in the past. I mean I can handle this kind of boring mission structure if the actual combat or gameplay mechanics were fun (I love Destiny for example), but it just plays like any other cover-based shooter.
As for the darkzone itself, I didn't get to explore it fully yet because I only played it for about 30 minutes but it was a pretty grueling experience. I was split up from my friend because he was level 7 while I was level 8. So we just decided to explore on our own and see if we could find anything. This is the part of the game that's most confusing to me. I understand that you're supposed to get loot and then extract it, and to also defend it against other players. Alternatively you can choose to kill other players and go rouge.
But my issue is...what do you even DO in the darkzone to get loot (aside from other players)? What streams or avenues are there to get loot? Because I didn't see any quests or missions in the darkzone. I couldn't find any loot caches either.
My only experience with the darkzone is walking around aimlessly, and getting killed by the same rouge team with overpowered weapons and armor over and over again.
The only good things about this game so far is the UI/HUD and the graphics I guess. Also judging from all the things that are locked, I think there will be a good amount of content too.
Looking forward to figuring out what to do in the darkzone with a squad this weekend. Perhaps it'll be different then.

Darkzone is the endgame. It's the combination pve and pvp, not pvp only.

Oh, ok. Apart from latency concerns I don't like the idea of a pvp zone for endgame pve content.
Man, this game looks like it's ticking all the right boxes but I'm still worried about the mmo aspects.
Is this potentially going open beta at some point?

and there's no such thing as 'combination pve and pvp' unless there's a flag I can put on to opt out of pvp and do pve. Otherwise it's just pvp.AusRoachman

Partly why I'm still a bit sceptical . I like playing but as a lone wolf . So getting in and out of the dark zone will be damn hard I imagine . I kind of wish they made it so you can only spend a limited amount of time in there before you need to leave to prevent groups camping all day long.
Also a chance to get similar gear doing Pve (even if it means special missions every week that are really hard)

Biggest problem of the Dark Zone is that the activities boil down to this:
1. Run around like a madman looking for one of the VERY FEW pockets of PvE enemies who are wandering around (but generally always spawn in the same place, like the gas station) to gun down to increase your dark zone rank/get dark zone currency. Then wait forever for them to respawn.
2. Kill players and try to take any loot on them they have, then run away until your bounty expires (trying to hole up alamo style never works based on what I've seen, newly spawning players are attracted to your beacon like moths to a flame, and killing people who come after you resets your timer; it's a battle of attrition that's impossible for you to win).
3. Run around trying to hunt down player-killers with bounties on their heads.
That's it. There's no mission structure or events. To top it off I never got any "good loot" to drop in the Dark Zone, either from an AI enemy or another player. Granted if you get your dark zone level high enough you can buy the "exotic" yellow items from the dark zone safehouse guy. Otherwise grinding the hospital mission gets a guaranteed purple item everytime you clear it for WAY less effort than running around the dark zone for hours.
Also getting to the dark zone itself is a huge pain in the ass. No fast travel to the checkpoints, what?

You need it for dark zone and coop story missions (matchmaking). At least that's how it works with gold

Getting killed with a bounty on your head, even a minor one, represents a pretty significant loss of dark zone level progress, and deducts from your dark zone currency. If you get killed at the highest "wanted level" you can find a whole level deducted from your progress and about half your bank.
I only saw low-level players with nothing to lose ganking or griefing people in the alpha.

Also why are some items like gas masks not viewable on the player ? At least when I tried it my player never changed .
