The Division Beta Thread: Make Manhattan Great Again

So far I don't understand where/how to obtain loot in the dark zone...

Kill named enemy NPC's at the landmarks scattered around the map, they usually drop blue quality items. You can start opening some chests once you reach DZ rank 10, quite a few in the underground subway areas.

Really?, how?

In Camp Hudson(?) there's a laptop that said Find Agents or something. In the same area you can also walk up to other agents and interact/join up with them.

Also when approaching the beginning of a main mission you can press a button (square?) to matchmake with others.

That is my assumption anyway. I've not tried any of these options yet, played with a friend only.

group management
matchmaking is a choice off of there.

You can matchmake for the hospital mission for sure, I didn't bother with any of the other PVE stuff in MM, but I know you stay in the same group after the hospital and can keep playing together.

So is there more to the dark zones than PVP? Like is it worth exploring for items?

you can farm DZ xp and points off the npcs in there and out of chests and you can spend the points on blue armor/items on the vendor outside.

This might be silly to ask now but how do you guys think an i5 4440@3.1 /GTX 770 2gbvr/ 8gb ram, will run the Division? 60 FPS at 1080p medium possible? Debating if I should get this on my PS4 or PC atm. Any feedback is appreciated.

For those with issues in the DZ...

-Group up if you can. Solo play I would not recommend unless you really have a plan and some good weapons.
-I would recommend to be level 8 outside of the DZ before you go in, since all of the AI is level 8 and up
-There are areas that are marked in red on the radar which are designated as "contaminated zones" which are where the enemy AI spawns. I think they are on a timer, so if nothing is there just leave and come back.
-The enemy AI most always dropped blue items
-It got to the point where I would only pick up blue items since you are very limited on inventory space
-Once you're full, head to an extraction zone to call in a chopper to extract your gear
-PAY ATTENTION TO OTHERS AROUND YOU, trust no one. If you see someone running around the extraction zone without a yellow bag of loot on their back, they are most likely trying to kill people to steal their loot
-Basically don't shoot at people unless provoked

As far as going rogue...

-Obviously the goal when you become rogue is to get to level 5 or as close to it as you can, and survive.
-The number next to your name and the skull icon is a countdown timer, when it gets to zero you are no longer rogue and based on how long or what level rogue you were, you will get a giant chunk of DZ cash
-It seems killing other players gets you a nice chunk of DZ xp and cash as well.

If I think of anything else I'll add more. Otherwise I'll try and answer your questions if you have any.

There was a user on here who was mentioning a tactic I was also using.... baiting people into going rogue and then killing them once they become rogue for the xp + cash. Works great.

Going rogue with the right group in the right location, where you have groups of people trying to kill you... it gets very intense. I love it.

I haven't been following the thread -- Just came from playing a couple hours.

Anyone else think this kinda.. Sucks?

I'm a person in plain bland clothes with hyper generic weapons (m16 m4 whatever) shooting other dudes in plain clothes with hyper generic weapons. And that's it. There's not even any excitement to the implementation of this genericness -- No crunchy and satisfying hit reactions, no gore, quite the opposite -- People feel bullet spongey. You shoot them a bunch then they lay down.

The boss I just fought was another dude in boring clothes with a gun. He just has way more hitpoints than the other dudes in boring clothes with guns.

How does this last? How could it be a Destiny replacement? Aside from the actual gameplay of Destiny being far more exciting and flashy, Destiny has a great variety of enemies. Robots, aliens, creatures, monsters, giant bosses -- This just has the same grey looking generic dude you shoot over and over.

Will the first DLC pack feature more dudes with plain clothes and a new raid boss which is a dude with plain clothes and a gun? How is this supposed to last? It's so dull.

Am I missing something or just too old for this shit?

That image and the entire e3 2013 gameplay reveal was mesmerizing. The image sharpness, texture detail was just crazy good

Dark Zone is a PvP-allowed area that can hold up to 24 other players. You kill stuff, whether it's NPCs or other players, steal their loot, and then try to extract that loot.

lol. Good to know. Thanks. Ran into a group of five players in their extraction zone. Good thing I didn't try something funny.

How do you fix the audio on PS4 so the announcer dude isn't stupidly loud?

You can set the Controller speaker level in the PS button menu, can you not?

I said the same thing about Destiny when i tried its beta, it has grown a bit since its inception I believe. What kept me from jumping into Destiny was after an hour, I saw the entire map in the Beta. Not happening here, and we only have a fraction of the full release map available. In the Destiny Beta, I saw more than half the territory of the full release.

Different strokes man.

game is growing on me...the day/night cycles and weather effects are nice...the depiction of Manhattan as a quarantine zone ravaged by a virus is also pretty impressive from a visual standpoint...gameplay and graphics aren't blowing me away but the sum of its parts makes for an interesting game...this is definitely Ubisoft's most ambitious game ever

You're not too old. But you're doing this thing where you whittle something down to its basics in order to make it sounds terrible. At the same time comparing it to a space /Sci fi game and wondering why the title that's trying to be more "real" isn't as flashy as the other.

It's a generic shtick you're pullING considering this is a far cry from destiny.

Anybody on PC had the game hard crash on them? Like HARD crash to the point your entire computer crashed (black screen) and you had to restart?
This has happened three times now, once when starting up after tweaking the graphics slightly to get a perfect 60+ fps, once within 5 minutes of loading into the game and again after about 30 minutes of play. Temps aren't high, ~60 for both CPU and GPU. CPU usage was pretty high at 75+% but that's about in line with R6 Siege and I've been able to put several hours at a time into that without issue. I've never had this happen and I game all the time on this thing.
Specs:
i5 4690k @4.0Ghz
GTX 970
16GB Ram
Needless to say, I will not be trying again after this. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Shouldn't you be able to just go to the beta page in the psn store and download it?

just preorder on amazon

If only it were so simple!

Originally pre-ordered the standard edition on Thursday on PSN, when I looked at it on my download list where it tells you the time until unlock and it was explicitly called "xxx NO BETA ACCESS" so I cancelled that and pre-ordered the gold edition, again from PSN. Looking at this after I checked out it also stated "xxx NO BETA ACCESS" and when I checked the Beta page on the store it only said "not available for purchase" and there was no download link. I cancelled that as well and my better half pre-ordered it on Amazon for me. We got the code pretty much immediately and I went to the beta page, signed in, entered the code and got the confirmation message about getting an email. I then checked the email account that was attached to my UPlay account and couldn't log in and got an odd can't log in for 12 hours message.

Turns out my ISP has somehow de-associated my main and some of my sub email accounts and I now can't get it, or the contents back. The email was also associated with my PSN account (and GAF which a problem for later!) so first I changed that and then tried to do the same with my UPlay account. Unfortunately you can't change your email in UPlay without access to the original email so I logged into my UPlay account and disassociated my PSN account from this and created a new UPlay account and linked that to my PSN.

Hoping everything was now "in a line" I pre-ordered again from my Amazon account, got the code, entered it into the website, still no access.

It's been a long day but I'm hoping some kind of email will greet me i the morning.

TL;DR - I wish it were so simple.

Dark Zone seems dumb for solo play, after playing it for like 1h.

I was still lv5 and shit gear, but going against a group of players is pretty much impossible as this is more of an RPG than a Shooter.
I did get lucky and dropped 2 Rogues as they were waiting for extraction, and got like 6 items out of them.

I don't know if your'e too old, but who told you it's supposed to be a Destiny replacement? Maybe take it as a lesson to keep your expectations in check and just move on. It ain't for you.

I found the bullet dumping you do in Destiny way more boring than anything in The Division so far. Like shooting a giant boss continuously for 10-15 minutes while garbage enemies continuously respawn is....not a great time. Not sure why that games PvE is as well regarded as it is.

Did someone just compare this game negatively to destiny by pointing out how bullet spongey this game is? Did I read that correctly?

I have never, in almost 30 years of taking, played a more bullet spongey game than Destiny. I'm sure they exist but I haven't played them.
