Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

Is anyone playing with the Venom Fightstick on PS4 and/or PC and can recommend it? Google tells me it's quite good for the price when modded with sanwa buttons.

I'm realizing how that I should be using R. Mika's Peach Gator more (I don't use it often because I'm afraid of getting punished) and her Wingless Airplane for when player's start jumping around like crazy.
 
Managed to get in 3 Karin victories in a row before my SO had to go to sleep and the roommate started hogging the bandwidth playing the Division beta and running netflix.

This is the darkest timeline.
 
I really want to fight good Lauras and Necallis as Sim. I won most of the matches against these characters until I just run into the ones that know what they are doing, and they have lots of frame traps and tricks in close range that it is really hard to get out, even with V-reversal since it is grab-able. Then I run into a bunch of Lauras that get zoned out rather easily after, which makes it hard for me to get a feel of how the matchup should look like.

Flying Peach is super good for catching neutral jumps and on counter hit you get a juggle off of it. Also if you space out flying peach it becomes safe on block. I like to avoid jump ins by low profiling them with cr.lk, cr.mk, and cr.hp.

Sadly I do this, but I still had matches against Canadians, South Americans, and even someone from Greece (I think someone was from Israel too since I saw the star of David). I live in Texas and I knew I was gonna feel the rollback whenever I see that maple leaf. I don't hate you Canada, but THIS IS MURICCA!
 
So far I need player experience against Nash, Rashid (nobody plays him) and Ryu. Been a whole lot of Laura's and Karin this past hour.

Good Lauras are a treat to fight.Only found one person who knew what they were doing though.
 
We need a poll to see if this connectivity thing is as big an issue as it sounds, or if it's just a vocal minority. I don't remember the last laggy match I had, and I've only been paired with US/Canada. This thread makes it seem like it's affecting a large part of the community.
 
I've gotten randomly disconnected from the servers 3 times now. Don't think it's in my end since my other devices are working fine with my Internet connection.
 
I might have misread what happened - but it looked like I got 50 fight money after someone disconnected/ragequit on me earlier.

Finally got over 1000 LP. Calling it a night, for now.

Slowwwwly getting better with Karin. I think. Chun, Rashid & Bison pretty much work me with the consistency. Everyone else I feel like I have an okay shot against. Unless they're like, ranked north of 7k. In which case I've pretty much gotten my lunch eaten in less than a minute.
 
So I have a theory - This beta doesn't have a Letter based ranking system like 4 did so you kind of have to improvise a little but -

D Tier players - 0-195 points - this is Ryu army land , there are obviously a few people just starting out with anyone that you could get matched with but most people still start with Ryu so you've gotta figure out how to beat Ryu before you can level up ... and the best way to do that is to also use Ryu so I hope you like mirror matches for 20 minutes + depending on how quickly you learn.

C Tier players - 196-390 points - Congratulations ! , you've now moved up to Ken Country. A combination of lucky breaks(and possibly skill) has probably lead you and many others up to this level of competition, here you will face people who won a couple times with Ryu and switched to Ken as well as Ken players on a rough losing streak that belong a bit higher up in the standings. It's also a well known fact that anyone playing online with Ken is probably hooked up to a wifi router located inside of a Faraday cage.

C+ Tier players - 391-455 points - this is a very small bracket but it's the home of scrubby Karin. While not that easy to use properly, Karins movelist lends itself quite well to dealing with scrubby Ryu's and scrubby Ken's which means after a stay in Ryu Land and Ken Country - Karins are stuck at the top of the scrub pile, unable to beat opponents that know how to play street fighter (mostly just being able to block) they lose just often enough to knock them down to ken country only to win just enough to push them back up to this level.

B tier players - 456-975 points - Anyone in this level is no longer a scrub , they've overcome the types of players that rely on scrubby tactics enough that getting here means they understand the game. From mostly second hand experience (because I'm ass at this game) Necalli and Bison are more prominent here but really you could run into anyone.

A tier players - 976-2990 points - Genuine street fighter players are all around this level I think , you can beat all the scrubs and those from the previous level without too much effort and might even be pro level with someone in certain matchups. I suspect there are probably a ton of birdie players in this level.

S tier players - 2991-XXXX points - Anyone up here is a street fighter god , this is where you'll find actual pros , most of them will be using Nash but obviously everyone is different.

For the record, I'm just taking the piss out of the current ranking system but seriously though, my friend and I were playing on his account for about 20 matches earlier and as I lost his points we started fighting more Ryu's and Ken's. Once he won a few and got them back up , Necalli started showing up again , and they always had a few hundred to their name.

We almost didn't get a SF4. We did, it brought in new people, and then the community became arguably more elitist (or such is the reputation, at least). Capcom couldn't even fund SFV, which as we see is not exactly feature rich, on their own. I try to remind myself to be an ambassador when possible, and show good sportsmanship regardless. SFV will be my first fighting game. At times, seeing how much I have to learn on both game sense and execution is daunting (and that's coming from someone who's ok at dota 2). I just wanted to say I appreciate the players who are patient and helpful. I try to be the same for dota newcomers.

Yes, it's pretty nice. I put Sanwa buttons in mine and am waiting on an octagonal gate for the stick (just a preference though, the stock stick is pretty good). It's a good sized stick and it's nice and heavy, very easy to mod also.

I used to have one of the first TE sticks for the 360 and I find this is a nicer size for sitting on my lap.

I put Karin as my training partner. This was a mistake, as now everytime I lose a match and get dumped back into training, the first thing I hear is her laughing. So cruel.
 
LP makes absolutely no fucking sense. I get matched into an unfair fight against someone 15,000 or more ranks above me, lose 70. I win against someone with triple my LP, gain 35. What.

I'm assuming that stuff will be different at launch. If not, then yeah, it's busted.
 
Ryu has started to click for me. I realize now the normals I've used with previous incarnations of him are much weaker in this game but normals I didn't rely on are alot stronger with this version of him.
 
I initially thought v reversal would be really useful, but I'm just not really seeing it now. Most combos are too short to really consider using one.

I have it. Added sanwa snap ins and it works great, just be prepared to swap because the stock buttons are not very good (conversely the stock stick is fine). It's got a nice heft to it.
 
So, question - I'm looking at combos for Vega and I see this:

claw s.HP xx SC, s.LK, BH c.MP xx MK CT

I'm mostly familiar with fighting game notation, I know xx is a cancel, s is standing, c is crouching etc. But I have no idea what BH is. Vega doesn't have a move initialed BH. I feel like I'm missing something obvious. Anyone know?

He's free to Cammy too. I haven't seen many jump ins that aren't beaten by stand hk without much timing or spacing needed. And her stand mk, and crouch fp ruin his pokes.

Reversal cannon spike is good for beating him on wakeup too.

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about Cammy. She has such good buttons and good damage as well.

I think it means to switch to clawless.
