Somebody call VH1: "The Fine Bros" are trying to trademark "reaction videos"

There's really only three outcomes to this:

1) They give a shitty apology and people move on, their viewership takes virtually no damage because I'm assuming most of their audience doesn't know or care about this, they just want to get in some low brow chuckles and move on to other YouTube Poop.
2) Their channel collapses. This is unlikely to happen unless YouTube literally closed it or something, which there is no precedent for.
3) They come out and go THE WORLD REACTS! You've all been part of the biggest React of all time! Thank you so much for being part of it! It was all one big prank!

the "Troll" route is kinda like the smartest and only way to go without losing more face.....however its impossible to go this route tho based on their actual actions (them actually trademarking) and previous actions.

Wow, what a pair of entitled twats. Already voiced my dissatisfaction and unsubscribed. Now to just sit back and watch the fallout.

I saw the Mega64 video before watching any of the announcement videos from FineBros, and I laughed my ass off at how little the parody actually changed. Who actually thought that first video was a good thing to release?

"What a difference a day makes, 24 little hours..."

I'm curious to see if their ''Let's change the world!' enthusiasm they showed in that announcement was genuine or faked.

If it was genuine, it's a bit sad how delusional they sounded and if it's fake, it's pretty repulsive.

On the other hand, could this potentially mean that channels that rip entire videos and have one guy staring into space in the corner (like that Jinx guy) could be taken down?

Haha, no, what am I thinking, those are channels that make a lot of money, so of course they're immune.

It was a sales pitch, so it was genuine in the sense that they really do want to take people's money.

It's hilarious how they consider their react videos a format. It's barely a concept. And not even one they came up with, react videos existed since the early days of YouTube.

Looking at them on their update video, can't help that the fact I have somewhat of an empathy for them. They look miserable.

I almost did, but then they claimed they weren't running around taking down other people's videos... Yeah, lost any sympathy/empathy I may have been gaining. Let 'em burn.

They want to be seen as a professional company yet acted like they a teenager on 8chan's invasion board by asking people to harass Ellen DeGeneres on Facebook? Oh dear.

In all, not really, but it is a total halt of growth. Huge channels like this usually have positive growth (either due to churn or algorithmic promotion), so a negative trend is statistically huge.

Thanks for the explanation!

Basically while it says only 50,000 have been lost, its a looooot more since theres a bunch of people who are subscribing too

I want Ellen to unleash the beast on them. I know the Ellen thing is old news now, but maybe the Fine Bros being douches will light some fire under her.

Also, Is VH1 in the title in reference to the VH1 "I love the 80s" series, which was basically a "D-list celebrities react to things from the 80s"?

After watching the update video, I really don't understand why people have any sort of issues with this. What they seem to be offering is an opportunity to start your own "franchise" of their react series using assets and support from them. They are NOT limiting anyone from making their own reaction style videos completely separate from them. For example the videos I've seen with Korean people reacting to things or people seeing porn for the first time is totally fine. They're not trying to own the "react" genre.

In terms of them taking action against other people's videos, the only examples i've seen are where people repost their videos, or create exact, beat for beat, versions of their videos. That seems legitimate to me.

My sense is that people have a large amount of dislike for these two guys, and that fuels a more knee-jerk negative reaction, but is there something I'm missing?

They literally got a channel taken down for doing "Senior Reacts" videos before they ever started their own Elder Reacts series. They have also taken down numerous other Reacts videos, even months back judging by their treatment of the guy with the 8-bit channel that has been mentioned a few times now, that aren't at all like their "format". The Fine Bros. are shady, greedy, and obviously out for their own self-interest. They want to abuse yt's system, basically, to screw over anyone who just wants to share a reaction to something. And they're so board in what they deem a reaction based on the hissy-fits they've already gone on in the past that it's alarming. It's almost like anyone reacting to anything in any way (so basically every video ever) is up for grabs for them. It's ridiculous.

I like how in the video, the chucklefuck on the left has this annoyed look on his face and throws up his arms a few times. "Why don't you understand you bunch of morons? We're here for you."

The funny thing to me about this is they had a thriving growing business going that could have kept on going had they not done this. They would have been completely fine not trying to trademark anything or take down videos, but nooooooo...

Their clarifications are garbo. They tell us they don't want to take down other people's videos--so why have they been doing that? Are we expected to believe they've suddenly changed? They tell us they only got trademarks to protect themselves from people stealing their content, but they've also already said that now that they have trademarks they "have to protect" them (by sending C&D letters etc) "as that is trademark law"--ok, um, surely you already knew how trademark law worked when you filed for trademarks?

And they continue to not explain what they think their format is, leaving us to look at what they've said in the past about e.g. the Ellen video. Which tells us they are extremely broad in what they consider their format to be.

Yeah, these guys are shitbirds.

P.S. Can't believe they're openly admitting to stealing Burger King's franchising format! This shocking thiefing cannot stand and all fans of Burger King must now raid the Fine Bros facebook page.

This is what money does to people.

They reached a point where they felt their current revenue wasn't enough, or they needed more money to expand, so they came up with this idea and thought it would aid them in moving forward. It probably will because people are dumb enough to sign up for a service like theirs.

Ah yes. "Fuck You Money"

Yeah I saw some of the prior examples after I posted. I appreciate the additionally info - they seem to go beyond what reasonable on several occasions.

Surprised the USPTO registered one of these. It's merely descriptive. Except React World. That one is ok.

Either way, legally this is sort of ok. The problem would be YouTube taking stuff down without a chance to show why it doesn't conflict with the mark.
