Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

I never played a charge character in 4 because I couldn't wrap my mind around using normals and linking a charge motion.

I've had so much fun playing Bison this weekend and might even try to main him. I guess his v-skill absorbs projectiles which builds up v-trigger? I'll have to watch a video on it.

Now that I'm on the Bipson train I wonder if I should drop the new TE2+ stick for that Shadaloo stick.
That's funny, this is my exact experience too. I've never played a charge character in any SF game until I tried Bison in the beta. I really struggled for the first 10 or so matches, but then I went on a 7 or 8 game streak and it started to come together. I was doing much better with Laura, but I think I've picked up a ton of bad habits from playing rushdown characters like her or Makoto. Playing Bison makes me focus more on being patient and using normals. It makes it more rewarding when I win.

Speaking of Bison, why does cr.mp xx ex inferno combo normally, but not when you are in V-Trigger? That's the most bizarre thing.

^yea, I plan on having one shoto, one charge character I'm efficient with for SFV. Still, this is the first SF where I'm actually going to take everyone to the lab, and at least get a fundamental idea of all 16 characters.

When in V-Trigger, the animation becomes as long as the HP inferno which doesn't combo with the cr.mp. Using St.HP into Ex inferno works, also directly after a scissor kick.

Same here. I realized that the most fun I have with SF is usually the moment when things CLICK for you with a new character so I'm gonna learn a bit of everyone this time around.

The thing that I failed the most to get good with on older fighting games is I never learn the match-ups. I just never look up the info, never practice them, and I never do the most important thing which is to try playing that character that's giving me a hard time so I can get a feel for their weaknesses. Shit is key!

For a "main" though, Dhalsim is my boy for sure. YOGA 🔥🔥

I've probably played more characters in this beta than the entire life of SF4. I pretty much avoided all the charge and mashing special characters in 4, so it's awesome to not have to cross off 50% of the cast from the get go. Even Bison is much more approachable since he has a nice combo ender that isn't a charge move.
It's a rough road. I think I'm literally the only Dhalsim I've ever seen online.

That's to your advantage probably. Almost every Dhalsim I've played either whooped my ass, or the match was really close. It's hard to learn how to play against a character if you are facing them once every 40 or 50 games.

Noob question incoming: Is there a good collection of possible/recommended combos and other good information on how to use which move in which situation? For every character in general. Target combos, bread & butter etc.
Can't even figure out the use of some moves from the command list. Also felt that Laura's command list is actually wrong in the game. Either this or I am too stupid to read it.

Man karin is so much work .
She get hits after all her moves ,has no real mix ups and don't take off much chip .
I knew they nerf her combos since beta 2 but it still hurts .
Still i love her .
Also matchmaking in this game have serious problems .
I play the same 5 to 6 people for most of the day , hell i play the same person 8 times in a row.

Lol...I might be a better trainer than player, so no problem...add me on PSN for some sparring time.

OmniCloud

Sir, yes sir!

Sure you beat My Ryu earlier. Good game.

Oh snap, really? What's your CFN name? I wanna look it up, I played a lot of tough Ryus today.

EDIT: Nevermind, I remember, that was a good fight.

So, this brings up an interesting question for me. I'm on PC. Does anyone know how I would add a playstation player?

I'm sure in the final game, you'll be able to add/follow players via their CFN ID. At least that's how it should be.

Hitting fools with counter hit st. MP into full combo feels so good though. You can look past the struggle.

Hey, at least we're not Mika players. She got hit HARD.

yo count just bodied jwong.

did some1 with a Kendrick avi beat jwong?

It has been in many situations. If only I weren't so trash in regards to pressure defense. At times, I'm afraid to hit a button in this game, especially with Sim since he takes damage. His D-HP has been helping though, and its easy to combo off when it doesn't push you away.

Seriously how the fuck do you punish bisons bullshit purple ground spike thingy? my f mk with mika doesn't hit him after he does it, which seems crazy to me

Zangief seems like a tough match for Necalli. Not sure what to do. Necalli has good normals but they're pretty stubby.

Hah, really? I've only fought 2 necalli players but I got pretty wrecked by both. He seems to be able to retreat quickly and the ground pound stuff was super annoying to deal with, but I might just not know his moveset well enough.

Gief sucks. He's easily zoned out by anyone with a fireball. His buttons kinda' suck. He's slow. Has no reversal or wakeup threat, you can easily hit him out of EX 360. And the grab super? It has the same range as a throw, just stay out of that range and you can freely hit or even command grab him out. He sucks. Easily the worst character.

That's Fourwude in the driver's seat, and I didn't even have a lot of matches to choose from because he plays other characters besides just Zangief.

(at the time of posting, some of the videos are still processing, so please excuse any crummy quality)

If Gief is the worst character then the game's balance is pretty good and I can finally use the low-tier OS for my play

Man, beta has been incredible for me. Connections have been 90% SOLID for me, probably closer to 95% actually. And, i'm playin on Wi-Fi. then again, I have FiOS. However, still way better netcode than I ever expected.

I need tips to fight Ken with Karin, seriously. This matchup is absolutely impossible to me.
I've been using a lot of j. LK with Karin, it's pretty good.
Punish whiffed moves with the safest damage whenever possible (aka don't bother with her command grab unless you have meter because they crouch jab all day). Her st.HP is a good anti air, j.lk makes everyone fall for standing grab, EX command dash+shoulder (followed by qcb.HK or EX version) will make them start tossing out hadoukens, qcf.HP+Sweep lets you punish them and connecting her qcb.HK special (or EX version) after cr.MK is of utmost importance. I usually fall back on the lk version as a pad player, but the extra damage and knockdown can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. Ken players can be really mashy in my experience. Karin's best V-Trigger move against him is her sweep and command grab which you can use as bait to punish them with her EX DP. Her V-Trigger left-right and overhead game gets stuffed by their mashy jabs.
