Rise of the Tomb Raider in the Ukrainian Windows Store: 234UAH (~9,11USD)

The Windows Store version of this game seems to lack many graphics options settings. No Exclusive Fullscreen for you! Also it seems to break anything that hooks into games at low level, so no FRAPS, MSI Afterburner, Shadowplay, etc. So have fun with this guys! I hope jumping through all these hoops to save like 27-29 bucks over the Steam version was worth it!

Should have waited for steam price drop or PS4 version. It drives me insane not having fps meter and not being able to tweak graphics settings. Had no idea MS store is this bad.

I payed full price for the Windows Store version. And you know what? I don't regret it. Seeing people like you getting all upset when others buy the Windows Store version just made me wanted to post this.

if RotTR was Crystal Dynamics last Tomb Raider game you know why.

It definitely won't be because of $10 copies off the Windows store that's for sure. It's their fault they decided to launch on Xbox One only next to Fallout 4. And I doubt more than a smidgen of people even know about this region-switching thing.

I wasn't too serious with that post.

I don't use any of this, I'll happily play this version. I wouldn't be playing it if I needed to pay the Steam price anyway.

People in this thread act like RotTR is the first game to have a cheaper price in different regions.
Grow up, if you're OK with paying 60$ for this game, go on and buy it at that price. I just bought it, and frankly, I wouldn't even had bothered with it if it was not for this price tag.

So the way I'm looking at it, they actually made money off of me, when I actually had no plans to purchase ever.

Well, for one, this one prevents all third party injection and won't even allow the developer to implement a real fullscreen mode :P
I was very surprised that it let me turn on 3d vision. Even though it doesn't appear to have proper support this time. No DSR is kind of annoying but I'm not complaining about the price.

I know this is sarcasm, but it isn't true. While it takes a bit of effort, it's definitely possible. This is the way I do it:
  1. Create a desktop shortcut by dragging the app listing from the start menu/all apps list to the desktop.
  2. Create a text file, add the path to the previously made shortcut, and save it as .bat
  3. Convert the bat file to an EXE file.
  4. Add a non-steam game in the steam application. Point it towards the converted bat file.
  5. Boom. You now have a working steam shortcut to a Windows Store app/game. Works the same as any other non-steam game.

While this does require you to keep both the EXE and shortcut files on your system to work, it does the job, and doesn't take up any meaningful space.

Just in case anyone wanted to know...

This worked great for adding Hydro Thunder and Minecraft to steam, thanks.

This definitely scratches my itch of wanting a game on day one but not having to give the devs/pub full price. Any other smoking deals?

I can't seem to create a proper desktop shortcut, how did you do it?

Drag and dropped from start menu/all apps to desktop like said. If that doesn't work, another way is to open up file explorer and paste this into the address bar and hit enter: %windir%\explorer.exe shell:::{4234d49b-0245-4df3-b780-3893943456e1}

It will bring up all the apps, including the windows store apps. Just right click and then click create shortcut. You don't need the shortcuts on your desktop, though. I created a folder on my main game drive, copied the shortcuts there and thats where I keep the shortcuts and converted .exe files.

Then you just open notepad, add in the location of the shortcut, save it as a .bat like said and use something to convert the bat to .exe. Here's what my hydro thunder bat file looks like for reference.

"E:\WApps\Hydro Thunder Hurricane.lnk"

It won't accept my post code, UK btw.

It's any five digits, i.e. 00000

Runs alright on High on a 970. Very high has frequent drops, though.

If you keep your location as Ukrain you can get discounts on the DLC, too - although paying 3x as much for the season pass than you do the game seems... odd.

I wouldn't have bought the game for $40 or $60 on PC - perhaps for $40 (with all DLC) on PS4 and that's a big if these holidays. The idea that this is a loss? They just gained a customer that might potentially hook up on DLC. $20 was my impulse buy price - so happens it's lower.

Easily worth it. If I could get every new game for $10 without those features I would love it.

$10 as a day 1 price would totally kill the retail market... and this comes from someone who prefers buying physical/retail games.

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I don't even have a computer powerful enough to play it, but I can't turn down that kind of offer.

I hit a pretty big stick point when trying to update in order to buy the game. I kept checking for updates in settings, and even though it claimed I was on the latest version, eventually I found out I wasn't even on build 1511 (so why did it claim I was up to date?). In the end, I had to resort to downloading the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. Pretty ridiculous I had to basically reinstall my OS, but at least it didn't touch any of my files.

Hope that the prices on the Ukrainian store don't get adjusted in reaction to foreigners exploiting their low prices. That would be really unfair. :(

I found a bunch of malware in this file.

norton picked it up as a WS.Reputation.1 which means it has a low reputation score based on data from Symantec’s community. I excluded it and deleted it after i finished using it. i dont think it was a legit threat

LOL

is it me or this dude sounds salty?

Got in on this deal, worked without any problems. I live in CA in the US. 9 bucks for a game this new was too good to pass up. Also I get to see how bad the Windows store is going to be.

Is there any problem switching your region back after this is done? will it launch the game still?

store has already put a bad taste in my mouth, no way of buying the game.

Yup, I purchased then when it started downloading, I switched back the region. Relaunched the store. Everything was fine.

Ahh, this was the same problem as me, then! I mentioned it a few posts above, but I had to download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. Takes a bit of time, but should keep all your files the way they were.

You should just be able to run Windows Update and it will update you to the latest version.

If you aren't seeing it, you can force it by downloading the Media Creation Tool and upgrading manually (click download tool now at the bottom): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

thanks guy, gonna try that

Sheesh, no exclusive fullscreen mode? Is this a thing with all Windows 10 apps? That might be a problem for nvidia optimus powered laptops

I don't think so. They are genuine concerns.

Obviously for the small price, most of us aren't bothered but I agree with Durante, Microsoft are kidding themselves if they think they aren't making a fool of themselves with the way their app store handles proper games like this.

I knew all of the limitations when I first upgraded to Windows 8 to play Hydro Thunder but didn't think MS were stupid enough to do the same with 'proper' releases.

They'll be losing a lot sales on Killer Instinct, Gears of War and whatever else they plan on releasing if they continue.

Again, price wise I'm fine because it gets me TR cheap to play through something I didn't intend on buying in the first place but I doubt I'd buy another game from the app store again.

No, that person is helping us make informed decisions. You'd have to be hopelessly tied to a company to find fault with that, and these seem like improvements that are in MS's best interest to improve.

If I can region-switch my way into buying W10 games for a pittance like this then I'll keep coming back, but, yeah, with these limitations on what I'd consider pretty standard PC gaming practices I'd never buy a full price game from the W10 Store. Too many better alternatives to put up with that kind of nonsense.
