Nintendo Q3 FY 2015 Earnings Release

Nothing about it is lazy. You're missing out on an incredibly fun and challenging game.

Yea no. You're free to not like it of course but the game is by no means "trash."

It's so much worse than four swords dsiware/adventures that I don't know why anyone would bother playing it locally.
But that's for another thread.

Well this was an interesting birthday present to wake up to.

Glad to see Splatoon sell 4 million. Kinda interesting to see Nintendo explicitly stating that their strategy is gonna be to try and keep it and SMM's sales going - guess they're seeing the synergy as well.

Future prospects in terms of software both... good and not I suppose. Lot of '2016s' in there, whilst confirmed things only seem to go up to April. Unless there's a Direct to specify release dates, feels like there could be a bit of a gap.

It seems like as long as they put out a "good" (wooly world) first party title even on a struggling platform they can hit a million sales.

Even a "so-so" first party top tier franchise title (triforce heroes) can break a million. I bet they didn't spend a ton on developing it either because it was a lot of assets and engine work from link between worlds.

Skyward Sword and the DS-games are all great though. Triforce Heroes on the other hand is just trash unfortunately.

Opinion what is that? After fully completing TFF single player, i can said here that i loved TFF much more than Majora here lol (i am going to get crucified for sure here.)

That release schedule would be depressing to look at if I had a Wii U. I know Nintendo usually announce release dates later than most other companies, but even looking at what's in the pipeline it's barren. If I were a Nintendo fan I would be more focused on that, rather than analyzing sales figures.

I have a Wii U and I'm not depressed at all. Love the console. I own multiple platforms... not just a Wii U. I'm not crying over the schedule for Wii U. Great games are coming.

So happy for Splatoon, especially since it's a new IP. I do wonder if Splatoon 2 will come out next year for NX since I don't see Nintendo porting most of their Wii U games other than Smash.

Man, WiiU is not bad at all at selling first party software. I somehow expected Yoshi to bomb, glad it's not the case.

It's all that's really available though? If Sony just had first party games, and no third party they would sell pretty well too.

There's nothing else on Wii U but first party. Or anything worth getting for that matter. If you own a Wii U your best titles are Splatoon, Mario maker, Mario kart, smash.

And note when those games released, MARIO KART, and Smash launched in 2014. So I would expect numbers for their most played franchises to be pretty good.

Why would someone be depressed?

Why wouldn't people focus on sales figures in a sales figures thread?

We all know there is no third party for like two years now, we know there is a new platform coming out. There is just so much one company can do to carry a console on its back. We are still looking forward to the remaining games on the horizon anyway.

So what is the point of your post?

iirc Tropical Freeze still sold a million though.

Yeah, tropical freeze crawled there eventually.

It didn't crawl.
It achieved a sell-in of more than 1 million in the first 9 months from launch.

Oh thank god Tropical Freeze passed the million mark! I was going to ask for a source but it seems to be well known! Retro deserved even better numbers for this but I'm glad it did even that good. Can I find its total anywhere?

I got Guitar Hero Live on the Wii U. It was worth getting.

I got a bunch of very good Wii U indies, which are in a quite different price range than Nintendo's first party games. They were worth getting.

I've played both Four Swords and Tri Force Heroes. Four Swords isn't even close.

You need to be more specific.
MK8 > MK DD and MK SC

(Cit. Polygon).

Is there a source for TF's one mil? I have a creeping feeling that somewhere VGCZ numbers got grapevined into legitimate numbers.
EDIT: Nevermind, I see it below.

MK8.. 7.24 Million and is not over yet...

Not bad for Wii U hardware to be flat YOY with the NX coming very soon (still dead and all of course). And nice for Splatoon, Mario Maker, Mario Kart 8 (dat Polygon chart!), etc. 3DS keeps dropping YOY. It's too bad it's really only thriving in Japan. Hopefully shared games and architecture helps with the NX handheld.

Mario Kart 8 is going to beat Melee. The top selling Wii U game is going to outsell the top selling Gamecube game. Crazy.

Mario Maker sales aren't surprising. Mario sells, and a Mario "Maker" is certainly going to sell too.

Splatoon though - man. Totally new IP and it's about to outsell the top selling Metroid game. Definitely became a new franchise opportunity for Nintendo versus a one shot game.

Apparently, and I apologise for not being able to find the quote right now, its likely to be somewhere over 400k (selling 200k in the USA, about 114k from Japan, and a decent amount in Europe I guess) but lower than 500k.

115k-ish in Japan (famitsu tracker) + "roughly 200k" in NA (creamsugar NPD leak) + unknown in PAL = something north of 350k

I thought I saw something about selling a couple hundred thousand in it's release month in one of the NPD threads, but I can't recall really.

Edit:beaten.

Ah gotcha. I hope it gets close to 1m lifetime. It needs more love :(

Not saying there isn't, but interms of mass appeal to Nintendo crowd, or people in general, those games I quoted are going to be the bigger reasons why they have a Wii u.

Triforce Heroes seeling over a million is surprising. AC HHD selling nearly 3 mil is less surprising. I hope we get more AC spin-offs that go in more interesting directions.

I saw people knocking the game on here but anecdotally, I know someone who's never bothered to play an ordinary Zelda game who but bought Triforce Heroes. I think it scratches another kind of itch and shows there's an audience for multiplayer Zelda.

And while we're mocking people who claimed Splatoon will "bomb like W101" I'll just share my brilliant insight in that thread :P

Splatoon seems to have something W101 doesn't have and that is the trademark accessibility of Nintendo gameplay and economical game mechanics. Their games are usually easy to grokk but they can entertain you for hours. It remains to be seen whether Splatoon will be addictive (I'll give it the benefit of any doubt) but it's certainly easy to understand the game's concepts.

I think it slots into the Wii U's library perfectly and I have a gut feeling that it will be successful. The only thing keeping me from being totally confident is that I don't understand software sales on Nintendo hardware that's selling as slowly as the Wii U. It doesn't seem like a kind environnment for franchises that lack brand recognition. Splatoon will be an interesting test case.

Turns out that Splatoon was so awesome that it made the Wii U sell.

40,563 million yen for the three quarters.

29,092 million yen for the third quarter alone.
Thanks. Doest that mean that they only have like 37 million dollars in expences? Or am i calculating something wrong.

EDIT: Nevermind. For some reason i thought that Operating Income was the same as total revenue.

Wow, I am very thankful that Wooly World is a legitimate success. Good Feel deserves it, and I hope this allows them to have the freedom to keep doing their thing.

Look at the attach rates of those games. Nintendo would kill it if they had the install base. Nobody matches their software output this generation. Most companies put out like one good game in like 4 or 5 years. I'm actually excited for the NX.
Nintendo would make a killing if they just put out a system that people WANT.

Games such as Splatoon and Mario Maker show that Nintendo can still release "big event" type games but they need a larger audience.

Surprise, surprise. At the end of the generation, both Mario Kart and Splatoon will top the Wii U software charts. Also known as the only Wii U flagships that didn't feel like some hacks ran their last gen iterations through Dolphin and called it a day.
Hopefully that finally shows even the last clowns at the Nintendo management that they need to go back making a diverse and ambitious lineup (for NX), instead of phoning it in into enternity only because NSMB and certain minigame collections sold really well a decade ago.

Ye only if the Wii was on the same level as the ps4 and x1 and same third party support.

Splatoon is the best selling Nintendo game for the fiscal year, while that's awesome news as a brand new game, on the Wii U is the best selling game, at the same time, 4m is a very low #1 for Nintendo standards.

Regarding their full year forecasts, they'll have no problem on matching their Wii U forecasts (even if just barely) but they'll be far away from 3DS forecasts one again, as every year so far.

Though, impressively, even 9 years later, Wii is still performing above Nintendo's expectations.

amiibo might make up for the underperforming 3DS and with Wii U just barely doing as expected they should meet their financial forecast without much trouble, though I expect them to lower their 3DS forecasts, mainly for software.

How does that compare to Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii?

I wonder how large the budget was and if Nintendo considers it a success.

super smash bros. brawl (wii): 12.93m
super smash bros. for 3ds (3ds): 7.92m
super smash bros. melee (gc): 7.41m
super smash bros. (n64): 5.55m
super smash bros. for wii u (wii u): 4.61m
What's incredible is that 3DS and Wii U combined still haven't beaten Brawl.

Tripping vindicated.

lol never change, breh.
