Smart man! This is how it should be! I dislike players spending money like it's free. They should be smart and save and start a business and retire at 30. Heal your body, and live! Googling shows a few smart players retiring early and doing other things that they love.

Though this might be concerning for Marshawn: "Marshawn Lynch could owe the Seahawks millions if he retires"

Yeah. The gm said that too. Yet still got money and years on his contract. I'll put money on him leaving for another team. He's smart.work this year to be professional and heal up to not look too angry.then bounce later, that superbowl decision was embarrassing. They really wanted Wilson to be the hero of the team. Go ahead.

I think he really is done. He was going to retire last year but his whole team got him to stay.

Good to hear he's being smart with his money. Maybe those docs about broke superstar athletes helped. It's sad to see these guys go from millionaires to broke. Seeing him show up on this year's Clueless gamer Superbowl edition was cool too.

Either this is covered more in the media or its happening a lot more recently. Either way I applaud these guys for thinking about their future after football and still have the body and brain to do something else they may like

Smart. He's 30 (beginning of the end for most RBs), got $$, and got a title. No reason to keep risking your health, though after 10 years in the league, the damage is already done.

Not surprising. I knew 100% he was done after he decided not to fly out to MIN for the Wildcard game, even though he was healthy enough to go. Dude just didn't want to play in the subzero temperatures, period. No drive for the game anymore.

Oh well, he was the best running back in the league for a year, has one of the most infamous plays in NFL history, and of course a superbowl championship. It was a great career. /salute

I wonder if it's CTE fears.

RBs get banged up.

No, the rest of his body is failing. He was injured most of last season, and at his age.. they were probably cutting him for salary cap reasons.. meaning he'd play for a fraction of what he got last year and would never get a real huge payday again.

It's best he retires... if wasn't hurt all last season he'd be back.. but dude has like what 20 years of football on that body now?

Dude was smart and saved enough money to win his Bowl and retire early. Even if he probably had some good years left in him.

Good for him.

Dude accomplished every reasonable feat. Was one of the top RBs, got paid, got a championship title. Good for him.

And this is why Emmitt's rushing record won't be touched.

Anyone else surprised he hasn't been paid substantially more than 50 million in salary contracts to this point? Thought he'd be worth more seeing how dominant he's been.

Teams don't spend big money at the Running back position anymore. It goes towards QB, WR, and DE
