Damn, both of these talk about significant PS4 issues.

These PS4 performance issues have me worried.

Is it really that terrible? Plunging into the teens is not something I like to read.

Yeah I'm really debating what to get it on. Was gonna get it on PS4 so my sister could watch me play/I watch her playthrough, but now I'm not sure.

I blame Unity

For a narrative driven game, it has pretty terrible dialogue. Only heard about this game yesterday and watched a quick look. I would normally like games like this, but I don't think this one's for me.

The dialogue is what sold me on the game last year. Opinions.

My girlfriend reviewed this game. She purposely avoided spoilers, in case you were concerned.

Firewatch is as beautiful visually, as it is emotionally. Its main premise, being so unique, enables you to pursue an intriguing mystery in a picturesque location, whilst discovering more about human emotion and psychology. All aspects of the game amalgamate to form such a brilliant end product that I have given it a perfect score. There are so many other things that make this game awesome but I am not going to spoil it for you in this review.

That theme is beautiful.

My peer liked the game, and it sounds like something I'd enjoy, so I'll likely pick it up sometime soon. I just wish my computer could run it.

It's made with Unity so it's hard to tell. Some Unity games run horribly on anything and some run great.
Yeah, I'm worried. Doom is pushing me to 4K but I'd like to play this in the next few days as I've been dying for it from the moment it was announced. Cabel even sent me a postcard that is proudly displayed in my office, I have a few t-shirts... I have a PS4 but hate playing multiplatform games on anything other than PC if I have the opportunity.

Love the thread title.

Will be getting this on PC at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later. Saw some videos and it looks very reactive and more engaging compared to similar games.

I saw someone compare this to SOMA's issues (i havent played SOMA yet so cant comment on that bit. There are definitely performance issues. Not even when there's tons on the screen. Just randomly. In an area with tons of stuff happening, it performed better than when I was looking at a nearly empty area. Weird. Hopefully a patch comes soon to fix this.

I played the game and beat it in one single session during the weekend (took me around 5 hours).
I was really, really anticipating it, as i personally consider Olly Moss a true genius, plus i was digging the concept and the whole idea behind it.
Unfortunately it was quite a huge disappointment for me, overall.
More than a few technical problems on PS4 (consistent slowdowns, frequent pop-up, forced me to restart twice due to freezes and in general a code that gives you the impression of being far from polished), a story that just didn't click with me AT ALL (i never felt involved or got any emotion from it, save for the first 5/10 minutes), a pretty boring pacing and almost no interaction.
It does look amazing at times, but that's just it, for me.
I'm sorry because it's really a game i wanted to love and enjoy, but i just didn't. :(

These are persistent issues with higher production Unity games. I see this with SOMA, Dreamfall Chapters, Satellite Reign. I'm sure people can point to others.

I can only hope that developers targeting these kind of production values dump the engine until it gets in better shape. It isn't a deal breaker but it is really annoying.

It won't be available for purchase on PSN until it releases tomorrow.

Won't be up until Sony update store tomorrow. For some reason they didn't do pre-order for this
Edit: beaten!

Don't think it can be purchased yet on PS4. Was looking for it the other day to see if a pre-load was available. Couldn't find it.
Thanks for the replies. Was going crazy at lunch trying to find it. Was thinking there was a preorder because of the talk of the theme, but I was clearly mistaken.

where is the stuff about the PS4 versions issues. I want to get this for PS4 because of the trophies and playing while on party chat but if its ropey perfomance wise I will get the PC version.

That theme is beautiful, cannot wait for to install it. And I really don't get bothered by technical issues, as long as the game is fun and the story great, I can live with random hiccups.

Well no sale for me.

Sounds like the PS4 version is a mess.
Disappointing. I wish developers would properly optimise their games before release..

From a Campo Santo dev in the review thread regarding the PS4 performance issues:

FWIW, we're currently talking to both Sony and Unity and we're all working hard to to optimize performance of Firewatch on PS4.

It's tricky, because it really requires all three partners working together to improve — it's not something we can tackle on our own, unlike a game bug — but we'll definitely continue to patch all platforms with every content and performance fix we can over time!

To summarize: we're on it. :)

(I've played through the game multiple times on a PlayStation 4 and enjoyed it thoroughly! But I'm not a PC gamer so…)

Ah shit, I really wanted to play it on PS4. Hope there will be some performance videos tomorrow.
Patch isn't going to happen soon with three parties involved and it's a short game so I might have to go pc.

Reviews sound good, only thing that surprises me a bit is the very limited interaction some are mentioning. I expected this to be full of little things like in the trailers -- or maybe they mean something else by that.

Pre-load finished. Assume 10 AM PST means 7 PM CET? If so, booo!
