Nah. If Christie hadn't done it, someone else would have, and he CERTAINLY would have been taken to the cleaners in a democratic debate, especially against hillary.
If anything the establishment should be pleased with christie for exposing Rubio before they wasted their money.
Third place WOULD be a win for him, since that would mean he beat all but (presumably) Trump and one other- probably Kasich or Cruz- in a crowded field.

A lot of the exit polling seems to be pretty bad for him, based on people making late decisions and the importance of the last debate.
He could potentially fall all the way to sixth.
All signs are hopeful so far but nothing is a given.

I think Cruz has third locked up. The question is whether Rubio is fourth or fifth.
Based on prelim exit polls a large percentage of GOP voters made up their minds in the last week, so take from that what you can... but there's no one rushing to vote for a robot, especially with that anti-establishment vibe going on right now.
Trump wins and then Kasich/Cruz probably come in after. Kasich becomes the new establishment hope
Carson's gonna hold on til SC, at least. Fiorina will likely drop out, though. Christie too if he finishes sixth.

Christie likely knows he was done after this, which is why he went all out. Knocking Marco out like this does position him VERY well for a VP pick by Bush, Kasich, Cruz, or even Trump.
Look for him to make endorsements and hit the campaign trail shortly after conceding tonight.
Because it is FAR too easy to exploit those re: electoral fraud. Having a paper trail to go back and re-count in case of close elections has been invaluable more than once. It's not lack of technology but security that apps and purely electronic voting repeatedly fail on.
Either way, his campaign is fucked. If he gets 5th though, Christie will be remembered forever as the man that ended Rubio's political career.
