GameSpot: FE Fates will have face rubbing under certain conditions in the West

Yet you still haven't addresses the direct question to you. People might have fun taking an absurd starement out of context and posting gifs.

But do you have a line you draw at videogame content or not? If you do, your statement that complaining about videogame content is hysterical is incorrect. You should respect people who don't want this feature, optional or not, in games they might otherwise enjoy.

I think that's fair but your crocodile-raping tangent was some weird as hell non-sequitur strawman silliness. This minigame or whatever and how some feel about it, again assuming I've not misunderstood what happens here, is akin to finding a cockroach in your kitchen and freaking out. I understand the nature of the reaction but the degree of the reaction has me asking "Really?". Your example is akin to finding finding that Bug alien from Men in Black in your house. I'd hope anybody would freak the fuck out in that circumstance :P

At the end of the day, I just want Nintendo to be upfront about this so people know what they are getting. I have no interest in gloating or counter gloating - I didn't before and I don't now.

It's hilarious that the face rubbing mini-game is the only part of the game that people want to talk about.

Fire Emblem has become almost unrecognizable to me since Awakening. No one seems to care about what made the series so great anymore. People only care about waifus.

In the past few weeks, we've had multiple threads about this pointless face rubbing feature, but maybe one thread discussing the rest of the game.

Well, you've missed the threads bitching about the special edition which is actually the most important screw up they did.

But it would make sense that we would have threads about this since it's a confirmed localization change and we don't have any confirmed gameplay localization changes (rebalancing of characters, nerfing of chapters) because most of the reviewers haven't played the Japanese versions of the game, and some of that stuff can't be determined until its data mined.

The volume of the noise on this topic is insane, but it was kinda insane for the Soleil thing as well so /shrug.

Well maybe if you bothered participating the FE community thread...

I think I have read about 4 different news on this subject.

It's funny how Nintendo never stepped in to clear all the confusion and misinformation. They really don't give a fuck.

I know this is a few pages late but I really hate when people who weren't paying attention make accusations like this. Nintendo directly told people who emailed them about it that the skinship minigame was removed. Entirely. This article doesn't sound entirely accurate.

It's not that they "don't give a fuck" it's that you weren't paying close enough attention to the situation.

I have.

I didn't miss them. They just didn't need any mention. Of course it is ridiculous.

I also find the three version split absurd.

I'm still buying the game, but I really hope they don't continue with splitting future games up and trying to market them as two or three different games. It's crazy.

Okay so compromise

You can only facerub your significant other instead of the entire frickin cast regardless of standing

But it's not removed entirely.

I'd care if I didn't just sell my 3DS anyway. Bring on that NX already! Well, I'd probably not care anyway.

Still, this game has been one hell of a rollercoaster to spectate.

For those joining late it sounds like it's just the rubbing awake and blowing bubbles off events that were kept for spouses. So yes, it's sort of in, Live2D isn't dead, but the original full rubbing sequence doesn't sound like it's in even with spouses. We don't know.

The hot springs seem to be intact though.

hav u ever noticed that people with anime avatars always defend animie

I mean, they made ~2.5 Awakening's worth of game, so they're not really splitting anything. Its weird to release them as they did but its not unheard for Nintendo and their titles. (Revelations is inherently cheaper and recycles content.) They were assigned a budget for two games and they made two games.

Its an attempt to have a middle ground with a game tailored more towards Awakening fans, and a game that goes back to harder designs and challenge in map objectives.

Oh man the "Pre-order cancelled" crowd is going to be pissed.

A friend of mine is already crying that he cancelled his Limited Edition.

That's what he , and everyone that did, gets for throwing a hissy fit canceling his game over something super minor.

Like the game is still pretty much the same game :P Why is he crying over it if he wasn't really that interested in it in the first place? :P

No franchise is safe. Just be glad it's not worse.

Of course, but they probably can't give a shit about those Lunk and Zelada games.
Uhh... what game IS that?

EDIT: Oh wait, that was Medabot?

Uh... man, some of them really have to be desperate to sell in Japan anymore, huh? :/

Medabot is dying and real desperate right now.

I have no idea why this is even a thing. At least FE has always had shipping/pairings and this is a logical conclusion (if extreme).

The Medabot thing is just... why?
Someone got drunk at a nomikai, lost a bet and this is what we got.

Like I said, it could be worse. Seeing the state of Medabots made me feel exponentially better about Fire Emblem.

It sure is!

While I can see what you mean (though it never got bad as Persona post 3, people are mostly obsessed with Lucina for what I've seen), right now the game isn't out and there are news about a feature being remove/modified/whatever, of course people will people will discuss it.

I suspect discussions about it will die quickly once the games come out.

All that tells me is how Nintendo customer support people have no communication with the Treehouse staff
How about they explain why they choose to make these changes? Or the reason they skipped on the japanese dub. There might be a good reason (unable to license worldwide), but we probably won't know, as they don't really talk too much.
Most localizators have their own forums and are far more receptive.

I....can't even with Fire Emblem anymore. I really can't. No thanks to Fates. Not just because of this in particular (I was going to skip it anyway), but because the series in general is just going in a direction that doesn't appeal to me at all.

So if the next donkey kong country let you rape the crocodiles, but it was optional, you'd be cool with it?

I'm sure in every healthy institution on earth, the one that thought of crocodile raping and also compared it to anime petting, certainly has more issues than the one who thought of adding anime petting in their strategy game.
Just some food for thought.

Fire Emblem's initial peers were Shining Force (which last had a brand new game in 1998) and Der Langrisser which looks like this on the 3ds.

The fact that Awakening blew up like it did dumbfounds me as an older fan of the series, as so many classic JRPG series are dying off.

The funny thing is, I honestly think that the ones that make a stink about this are the people that best qualified into that "People only care about waifus" group. Ignore all the gameplay improvements! Ignore all the improved mechanics! Ignore the homebase gameplay! Ignore the improved difficulty adjustment! No, let us just get mad about some optional content instead!

Hell, we even have someone claiming to be a fan of this series proclaiming that he'd rather see the series die off. *shakes head*

You do know fates is a really good game, right?

Is this a new meme like the Treehouse localization thing?

That's today's climate though :P

We even have someone in this thread saying that this is comparable to rape smh.

See, this is what I talked about. Ironically, the ones that care the most about the whole "waifu" business seem like the one who are just upset about some optional stuff while ignoring the whole room of improvements the new game brings. Personally, I find it really silly.

It's hard to talk about a lot of that stuff when we haven't played the game or seen any improvements. Stuff like blowing bubbles off characters or face touching are easily visible changes and are things that scream out "You aren't the target audience for this game" to me.

At this point my most recent data point for the series is Awakening and that was a big disappointment for me. Prior to that was FE12 which was good, but only half counts because it wasn't localized. Then FE11/Shadow Dragon, another disappointment (though not to the extent of Awakening).

And "improvements" are relative. I don't think Pair Up was an improvement over Rescue. I don't think removing weapon weight was an improvement. TBD how I'll feel about eliminating durability and Fates' altered Pair Up.

The amusing thing, is that this is the second time this sort of thing happened in terms of old vs new for this series. When FE7 came over to western shores there was a pretty large large ruckus over how it was a downgrade from the the skills, leadership stars and stat changing items from the SNES era.

It's sort of nostalgic I guess, and reminds me I was a bit of a prick to newcomers once.

Don't forget the cartoony graphics and battle animations! I also don't recall seven getting that much hate, but man six took so much shit when it was released.
