Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I got my first real arcade stick recently: The Hori Real Arcade Pro V 5 Hayabusa. It was on sale on Amazon JP and I have a buddy that could forward it to me so I went for it. I'm really loving it.
That said, does anyone know how easy this stick is to mod? I'd like to swap out the kind of boring default art for something more striking. I would also think about replacing the parts with sanwa down the line, but the kuro parts are still pretty darn nice, so I don't think that'll happen until it fails.

Woop, just got a V4 Kai yesterday. Dropped the Kuro buttons with some older Sanwas and threw in an LS-56 spring with the stock spring in the Hayabusa making it as tight as I like it. :) Love it! Might do a lever mod on it in the future.

Also got some Gamerfinger buttons on the way. Should be pretty neat to mess with as I'm usually a Seimitsu guy.

Since it's pretty much the same as the V4 Kai, it's pretty easy as I just did a mod to mine last night. Just unscrew the bottom and it's pretty easy to get to all the parts. Well, it's a little tight around the stick, but nothing too daunting. Don't know about the art though.

love my GF buttons need them for the babies lol

If it's not one thing it's another with this stick i'm working on. In windows it says all the buttons work. But no game I have tried is picking it up. The computer still see's it as a controller. Any ideas?

EDIT: Fixed, apparently Steam Controller dongle can't be plugged in at the same time.

Posted on the Mad Catz thread but though I'd put it here too. I'm extremely happy with the quality as I felt quite let down by the original TE2.

Here's something i've been meaning to tell everyone, try using PHOTO PAPER. It gives you a nicer print (but i use a semi-pro 10-color printer so lol, having a nice printer helps a lot), cardstock sometimes gives you splotchy inkjet prints, something i've yet to encounter by switching to photo paper. Overall gives you better colors and a brighter, clean image, the blacks turn out waaaay better too.

as for this stick, I used photo paper then ran it thru a laminator inside a lami-label sheet (laminate with an adhesive side).

But how do you go about precisely and neatly cutting out the button holes? I've tried using the plexi as a guide, and I've tried free-handing it with an exacto knife. Every time I ended up with ugly frayed edges that show or holes that are slightly too small or too big.

I'm trying to do it for the TE2 without having to take out the buttons because god damnit that's supposed to be a feature of the stick! I know I could take them out and have the holes go underneath, but I don't wanna do that.

I've also tried reaching out to Art's Hobbies to see if they can do a laser-cut print for the stock TE2 sizing, but I have yet to hear back from him about it. I really hope he eventually offers this as I think a lot of TE2 owners would use it.

When I ordered a LS-56 spring it did not fit into the stick, too wide, or the bit where it goes too wide, I forget. How exactly did you make it fit?

edit: Here was my post about it, to which nobody had an answer, and googling only lead me to other people who tried the same thing and had the same problem.

So I'm trying to put a LS-56 spring into the Hayabusa and the spring is not wide enough, it does not fit around the base of the first part on the underside of the stick. The spring already in there is wider.

I've seen at least 2 people saying this should work...how? Please.

Just to be clear, the bit you can see the spring at in these pic, spring does not fit around that.

I was convinced people were talking bollocks when they said a LS-56 fits, but here you are saying it does too. I'm lost.

I should have mentioned I enlarged the diameter of the spring so that it could fit, but not so much that it changed the tension dramatically.

So I got my PS3 TE Round 2 from Amazon Warehouse in the mail today. It's actually the first edition but they mismarked it. Pretty beat up though... don't know if I'm happy with it. Might end up returning it and sticking with the Venom.

But to test it out, I went to go rent Mortal Kombat X from Redbox. Someone stole the disc and replaced it with a photocopied one. Ughhhh and it was the only Redbox near me that showed MKX in stock. People suck.

I'm sorry. This gave me a chuckle. That sucks a lot. Especially with the red box rental.

Decided on keeping my original PS3 TE stick. Any one know of any good modding guides?
I'm gonna check around online but figured i'd ask if anyone know of a good relatively straight forward guide to switching out buttons and such.

Wow you are just not having any luck with this at all lol

Doesn't the first edition PS3 TE have issues on PC? If you ever plan to play on that maybe send it back.

I haven't done my own Fightstick art yet, but when making other things that require precise circle cuts, I use a compass cutter.

I decided to finally get my first stick for SFV and some shmups/arcade games. I'm currently eyeing Venom, MadCatz FS PRO and HRAP4Kai.
I'm in Europe so I'm not spoiled for choice here and don't want to spend a fortune to import something. Out of these 3 what would be the best choice?

MadCatz FS PRO, imo

What do you want to use it on? Just PS4? PS4 and PC?

Then go with the HRAP4. FS Pro is a good stick but won't be compatible with every PS4 game. The HRAP4 will work with every game on PC, PS3, and PS4 (except SFV on PC lol, you'll need xpadder or something similar for that)

I can vouch for hibachi he designed a dustwasher and some artwork for my te2+ like 2 days ago. Now to get it printed.

Invest in this.

I just want to be doubly sure before I buy this. The te2 plexi and art templates work for teh te2+, right?
Asking again.

Still no news on PS3 stick support for Street Fighter V? I really want to get a Fighting Edge but if there's no news I may have to cave in and buy the TE S+

Got this fella yesterday. I like the feel of the Hayabusa but I might replace the Kuro after seeing other Kais in this thread. The only other stick I've had was a Frankenstein model shoved into an old Fight Stick Pro chassis, so this is a big step up.

Considering getting an octagonal gate, but I know that's just because I'm used to one. Is there still a holy crusade to only use square gates?

They confirmed PS3 stick support a few days ago! You're good to go.

Focus attack sell octagon gates for the Hayabusa.

So, there's a 360 MC SF4 TE Fightstick for sale pretty close to me for $115AU. Is that a good buy? From what I remember they were Sanwa-fitted so not much else had to be done with them. No idea on the custom artwork front either, but I assume that's a cinch, as is dual-modding if need be (room for PCBs etc.)?

Hasten to add, it looks to be in amazing condition too. Fully boxed and apparently hardly used.

So I haven't gotten my stick yet but just in case I don't like the Kuro's what are the best Sanwa's (I want solid white buttons) and how do I install them?

OBSF-30 is what you want. They just snap right in. IIRC with the Fighting Edge you just need to unscrew the top, pop out the buttons, and pop in the new ones.

FA and PA are sold out of them but Arcade Shock still has white 30mm buttons http://arcadeshock.com/collections/...denshi-pushbutton-30mm-solid-color-obsf-30-xx

Disconnects? You mean to the buttons?

What type of screw driver is suggested for sticks?

Quick disconnects are just little endcap terminals on the wires, they look like this:

PWyv3dj.jpg

You just pull them off the little plugs on the bottom of the buttons and push them onto the plugs on the new buttons. There will be two per button.

I honestly can't remember the screwdriver you'll need for the fighting edge. I think it's a smaller Allen wrench but my memory is hazy cause I haven't opened one in over a year.

I got these three hori sticks; two HRAP 2/3/Ex and one HRAP N3-SA, that I'm donating to my local scene's store. All them are getting modded with just a Ps4 controller pcbs.

The N3-SA is already modded with the HRAP 4 VLX pcb that got replaced by the MC cthulhu + Brook dual mod. If anyone needs a diagram of the wires that go from the ps4 VLX pcb to the home, select, L3 and R3 buttons, I can make one.

The regular hraps will have spare FC4 pcbs in them. All got brought on eBay for about $50 to $65 each.

I just got to wait for some plain SFV stick art and plexiglass from Tek innovation a.k.a. Art's Hobbies.

One of the sticks came with a seimistsu joystick. I have no plan of replacing it, so hopefully the gate does not go through hell and become obsolete in months.

Thanks for all the replies that helped me.

I was looking for my first stick and someone recommended Craig's List. I wasn't ready to drop $200+ for my first foray to see if I even stay in the FGC. I found a 2 month old posting for a stick and he still had it.

The guy lived in the town over and knocked $10 off the top since I drove to him.

Paid $40 for a SFXT Arcade Fightstick Pro 360 edition.

It looks like the guy opened it up, looked at it, and then put it away since day 1. No scratches, nicks, or dings at all. Just had some dust on it.

Joystick is crisp and smooth. Buttons are all smooth. No paint wear on any of it. It literally looks like it just came out of the box.

Plugged it into my PC (Win 10) and works flawlessly. All buttons and stick register fine.

I feel like I got a pretty good deal. I hope lol.

Thanks guys!

I got my first fight stick, a Qanba Q1. Pretty impressed with it so far and it is a decent size compared to what I was originally going to get which was a Mad Catz Alpha. I've been fooling around in SFIV with a couple characters but I can't wait until next week to start practicing in SFV.

So, the original Madcatz TE SF4 Fightstick. Would it be worth it for $100AUD? Looks like it's in great condition. I'd probably look to dualmod it down the line for PS3/4 support (it's a 360 version) and maybe drop a Pi in there too, if there's room.

Edit: I've checked past eBay sales and it looks like that's the going rate for these suckers. Given I like the form factor and there's nothing really needed to be done once I get it (butotn upgrades etc.) I suspect it might be worth it.

You plan to use it for PC? You might want to reconsider since it has some connection problems as others have mentioned above in this page.

Oh shit, good pickup that I didn't even notice! Will reconsider it then. Still love the form factor/case/ease of modding though. Prefer it much more than with the newer MC designs.

^^for the seimitsu spring problem. you want the LS-55 spring, not LS-56 if you're gonna fit it on a JLF. that said, paradise arcade shop makes heavy springs for JLF already with the right sizing, just go with those.

from my experience it all comes down to a combination of paper choice and having a good set of xacto blades. That's why I also suggest photo paper, as it is usually denser and does not fray (unless you really force it to) unlike plain cardstock.

And a tip for cutting cleanly is you do it slowly and surely, that way you don't go back and start fraying the material. and always test your blades on the side if they start to be dull and replace them, dull blades cause fraying and lesser control when cutting. as for sizing it all depends on your template and your own perception, do a practice hole and use it as a guide.

But I agree, nothing beats a laser cut or electronic cutter.
