Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Don't get a cheapy budget stick as your first if you go stick. Buy a decent used PS3 stick. I recommend checking Craigslist, ebay, or Amazon. You can find some decent sticks for ~$100 or under if you look around on those sites.

I can't decide between the Madcatz Fighting stick Alpha or Fightpad Pro. This will be my first fighting game in over a decade so I have no preferred input. I thought using the Dualshock 4 was a nightmare(and extremely uncomfortable) in the beta though hence my need for dedicated fighting controller.

I'm also looking at the Hori Fighting Stick Mini 4, but that is probably my 3rd choice. Some advice for a beginner would be greatly appreciated...

If I could start again now I'd learn on a pad. I feel like stick is a legacy thing that I'm stuck on because of all the muscle memory.

So would you suggest the Alpha over the the Hori Mini 4 as well?

Also if I decided I was going to look at PS3 sticks what would be good place to find deals?

nws is probably right, actually. my first stick had real mushy buttons and didn't feel great. once i had something that felt nice, it added a lot to the visceral nature of of the game.

Yeah I tend to put sticks on my lap.

you should be fine

worst case scenario you can resell the stick for no loss and hunt for something lighter

Fightstick Pro is my main stick. Good weight, fits in a lap easily, and it's not too big. Only downside is the first time you crack it open there's some extra work involved because the screws aren't accessible from the top. But it really isn't a big deal, just adds like 5-7 mins more fiddling.
My main as well because I find it the most comfortable on my lap. I have the EVO edition and need to finally put some leds and bling it out like I wanted. Maybe change the art.

I can't believe that alpha costs 80$ You might as well spend a little more for a better stick.

If you're talking PS4 sticks, the next step up is almost twice as much.

I second this. I snagged a TE S off of ebay a while back for $60 bucks with the box and everything.

For anyone who wants to do a MC Cthulhu+Brook UFB+Imp V2 RJ45 mod to their stick, here's a simple diagram I did for a friend.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h114/Amedo310/BROOK - MC- IMP_zpsut63wgdt.jpg

I might as well spread the knowledge. I only listed the important parts that need to be connected between the PCBs. The rest should be simple. Just connect the corresponding inputs together between the MC Cthulhu and the Brook UFB pcbs. You can use the terminals or the soldering points. (Like 1P to 1P, etc...)

Here's the picture of one my VS sticks' interior:

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h114/Amedo310/IMG_20160210_173617_zpsvatcf0ba.jpg

Don't pay too much attention to the bottom of my MC Cthulhu. I cut off the rear soldering points since I could not clean off the previous wiring that I done on it and I soldered new wires to soldering points under the terminals' inputs.

Just sent payment. $115.

He's going to be taking the sticks off.

My first stick!

So pretty

Shipping out tomorrow. Here's hoping I get it next week!

Tell me why? I want to know more so I have something more to look forward to!

The size, the layout.

For me (I'm 6'4") to be able to rest my palms completely on the stick is amazing. Look at the space available on the VLX and on the Fighting edge. The plastic feels so incredibly solid without the hollowness of a VLX or TE2 so that pressing buttons feels a lot better. I love the noir layout because I need that extra bit of space between stick and palm. The hayabusa is my favorite stick ever. The kuros buttons are meh, but easy enough to replace with whatever you want.

And, well, just look at it. It's the best looking mass produced stick out there, imo.

The only thing I don't like is the touchpad. On my black one, you have to press super hard, on my white one, it's almost too sensitive. I'd rather just have buttons.

I am without a doubt buying one the moment there is a ps4 version available.

That stick just visually looks nice.

If I ever get into modding that would be the one I'd get and pimp out even further.

I'm excited for my SFxT pro to show up in the next few days.

I'm going to try the DS4 method at first, but if I hate it then brooks converter here we come.

Yup, Fighting Edge is beautiful. My only worry is the LED's one day conking out. Otherwise, it's pretty much perfect. Hayabusa stick is indeed the truth.

So what is more likely, the Joystick going bad or the PCB? I have an old SF4 TE stick I aim trying to fix. I bought it ages ago and am just now getting around to it. When I hook it up to my PC everything works BUT the movement. Which is why i'm thinking it might be that.

Would that be likely or could it possibly be just that section of the PCB?

Is it a 360 stick?

If so, it's the home/ turbo (top left ) pcb. You'll need to replace it. Open the stick and disconnect the cables that connect main pcb to the home pcb. I've seen it happen with many madcatz TE sticks.

If it's a ps3, you'll have to get a new pcb all together.

Third option: You checked to see if the stick is set to DP setting on the home pcb?

360 so unhooking that stuff seems to work (using it on PC so turbo and all that isn't important).

Is there a layout on which prong corresponds with what movement? Kind of took out the wiring and its out of order now.

For example crouch is fine but forward jumps back is forwards and up up is back

Nice now the joystick works. But not the RT and LT buttons don't work lol. Don't think it's related to the joystick. So if you have any pointers for that while I mess with it that would be cool

Did they work before? How are you testing the buttons? With windows game controller settings option?

In regards to modding a Hori RAP4 Kai

Are these the correct Sanwa buttons I should be purchasing?

Sanwa Denshi OBSF-30 Solid Colour Snap-In 30mm Pushbutton

Also, what type of ball top should I purchase for this fight stick? Would this work by any chance?

Sanwa Denshi LB-35 Solid Colour Ball Top

Thanks for the help! xD

They did work before. I'm in street fighter training mode and testing it there.

I just looked it up. I think the RT LT buttons rely on the turbo/ home pcb when it comes to the pcb. The PC reads them as analog axis. Do you have a 360 console to test the stick on to see it they work on there?

Yes to both questions. If you want to replace the start button, you'll need a 24mm snap-in sanwa button too.

Hey guys whats the consensus on these Brook converters?

Are we afraid they are gonna need more firmware updates and not get them, or does this company seem legit?

Specifically Id love to hear impressions of anyone using a x360->ps4 model.

Thanks!

Thanks a lot!

I'm going to try out the Kuro's first but I kind of want to make my fight stick more colourful! :)

Recently got a HORI Fighting Stick 3 shell. I know there's all this SFV hype, but im personally excited to play Xrd Revelator as well. So I went on and made a Guilty Gear inspired design, very grimey.

basically describes me most of the time.

current pcb is a ZD encoder i had around. As you can see I made button inserts, clear red's will replace the dark hai's hopefully soon. my new portable stick for casuals/anime conventions.

You do great work. I always enjoy when you post a new stick. I recall some Cave stuff I really liked (DFK?).

Lol! That printed out very well. Looks great, nice job :)

What kind of paper did you use?

All of my sticks have both pcbs with in v2 board through rj45 pass-through. They are like that since I play on DC, ps2, and original xbox along with last gen and current gen console. With the imp v2 and MC Cthulhu, auto selection between ufb and MC Cthulhu is really nice. I can plug into any console with ease.

On the other hand, if you play on the ps3 a lot with other local people, it would be better for you to have two controllers.

I didn't even know about the imp v2, looks like that is something that needs to be soldered? I'm not too confident in my soldering skills. My MC Cthulhu stick is just USB and I've only used it with PS3. I've seen those RJ45 adapters though, very cool option, just not sure I play enough on older systems. Having xbox capabilities for CvS2 would be nice though.

I think with the announcement that PS3 sticks work with SF5, I'm gonna leave the MC Cthulhu stick as is, hope it works well with SF5 at launch, and install the UFB in my extra case. Maybe down the road I'll try installing the imp v2 and UFB in my current stick, or just swap in the UFB if it works great on all four systems and I don't feel like soldering.

Alright. If you ever try the UFB+ MCC rj45 combo, just read these posts:

What kind of paper did you use?

Here's something i've been meaning to tell everyone, try using PHOTO PAPER. It gives you a nicer print (but i use a semi-pro 10-color printer so lol, having a nice printer helps a lot), cardstock sometimes gives you splotchy inkjet prints, something i've yet to encounter by switching to photo paper. Overall gives you better colors and a brighter, clean image, the blacks turn out waaaay better too.

as for this stick, I used photo paper then ran it thru a laminator inside a lami-label sheet (laminate with an adhesive side).
