Indie Games 2016 [February] We will finish that GOTY 2015 thread eventually

Still unbelievably hyped that Snapse 2 is coming. Though I am not sure how that open world part is supposed to play out.

So I just won a copy of Frozen Synapse from bobnowhere on the steam thread. Wanted to try it out for a loong time, now's my chance.

After bouncing off Cortex pretty hard, it'll be nice to get back into the tactical gunfights. Even if it ends up being a more measured cyberpunk Doorkickers, that's okay.

Yeah, looking forward to them expanding on the game that was actually good. :p

He replied?! Dammit!
:D !

Great, great game. There should still be some people around in the game, but if you cant find anyone, poke me. I'd be glad to jump back into it. :)

The guy taking cover behind a car in that screenshot makes me think of Doorkickers. I wonder if they'll be taking any inspiration from DK, like gear, go codes for simultaneous tactics, etc.

Hm, why? ducking and taking cover was already in FS.
And I dont think gear will be a thing, totally defeats the chess like structure of the game. And I mean I dont see why Doorkickers cant be its own thing anyway. Also, you could already do simultaneous tactics with the timers, so why go codes?

Thinking of creating a thread for a Synapse 1 tourney to crosspromote the FS2 announcement. Probably throwing in a 20€ Steam gift as price.

Anyone interested?

I just saw 'car' and thought Door Kickers. Nice that we're getting sequels to both. FS2, the game you agonise and optimise over with every time bracket. DK2, aim to bag and tag, get fragged, restart. Both fine tactical fixes.

I tell you what, though...I'm pining for someone, I don't care who, to make a new Full Spectrum Warrior/SOCOM Tactical Strike. Because I miss 'em bitterly and love the ground-level management.

Killzone: Tactics. Vita.

BELIEVE.

I would be. It has been a long time since my last game but I should be able to catch up with the controls.

The writing is sadly on the wall for some. Ah well.

Can we call New N Tasty on Vita an Indie, only for the fact it's the only thing I've been playing on the little machine for a while.

I'd be up for it willing to give some keys too if that helps.

Edit i'm a complete newb and wont get past the first round!!!!

I'm super timely, because instead of Firewatch, I picked up The Long Dark and Noct.

Finger on the new release pulse for eschatological wilderness wandering.

So has anyone played Firewatch?

I did and was a tad disappointed there. The replay value is very limited, the environment is poor and I almost felt as if I were in a corridor. Being stuck in the environment due to small bushes or whatever breaks the immersion. Plus there are some other flaws in the game design, one of them for instance being that I could not try to lockpick the fence with the raptor claw: so you can try to break the lock with a rock, with a wood stick, with your bare hand, but if you take the time to get the raptor fossile from one point of the map to the fence, there is no interaction possible.

During the whole game, I was thinking of this blog post:

Never put enough time into FS to learn all the nuances of combat

Doesnt matter that much I think, just gonna be a fun little tourney to get some GAF peeps together. We can even watch the others replays and talk about tactics. :p
Might throw the question into the steam thread next week, but I am not gonna bother with a thread if there are only 2 people interested. ;)

I agree, I am also quite disappointed. On top of what wok just said, there is als a huge issue with the narrative. The voice actors were great, but the game feels like it lost focus half way through. What did it want to achieve? Without spoiling something, I got the feeling that it tried to mix two approaches, and kinda failed both of them.

I know this is way old now but man managore your stuff deserves a much higher visibility.

Thank you so much! <3 I'd actually sort of forgotten about the game until recently, I've been thinking of making a larger sequel that's a bit more refined.

I bought and played Elliot Quest (about 2 hours played) and Firewatch (about 30 minutes played) and unfortunately I've been a little disappointed with both. Elliot Quest looks like it's going to be huge, and packed with heaps of content, but the player's movement and interaction with things feels off to me, which makes getting through all that content a bit of an ordeal. Firewatch is stunning, but I went into it blind and had built up this idea that it would be quite open and exploratory, only to find that my movement options are very limited. Maybe it will open up a bit but now I'm apprehensive.

The Witness (about 60 hours played), on the other hand, has been incredible and instantly jumped to the top of my GOTY list.

Stardew Valley - $14.99 (Win)

You've inherited your grandfather's old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life. Can you learn to live off the land and turn these overgrown fields into a thriving home?

I watched Chucklefish play some of Stardew Valley recently and it looks so good. I've been waiting for it since whenever I first saw it and it kind of sucks that it comes out within a day of SUPERHOT but I'll find time for both.

I concur. Also, sorry but nope, Firewatch will be as narrow as it is now.

Last year, my GOTY list would have been:
  1. Life is Strange
  2. Ori and the Blind Forest
  3. Tales from the Borderlands / Her Story / Aviary Attorney

This year, it shall be:
  1. The Witness
  2. Stephen's Sausage Roll
  3. The Walking Dead: Michonne / Frozen Synapse 2 / ReCore
but no Firewatch in there.

I still think its one of your best concepts. Looking forward to an expanded version :)

Is it okay if I post about a game I created myself? I don't want to do the shameless self-promotion thing if it's frowned upon.

OK, cool...I appreciate it =)

Multitasking - $1 (X360/XBLIG)
SnpW9J.gif

Multitasking%202015-10-12%2022-27-38-10.png

http://yyrgames.com/?q=multitasking

Described by at least one player as "WarioWare on crack," this experiment challenges you to play up to 4 continuously-shuffling minigames simultaneously, using the various parts of the X360 controller. Simple graphics allow you to focus on what's happening (and then fail). Also includes customizable difficulties, a Challenge Mode with 30 scripted missions, and a Practice Mode where you can set things up to your liking. Stuck on XBLIG for now, but will be on Greenlight soon, and beginning a next-gen reboot after that.

I am the sole creator of this game and I hope you enjoy it =)

I do think Kôna will satisfy where Firewatch falters. Admittedly, I've yet to play Firewatch, but where people find it lacking, Kôna seems to plug those holes, given what I've played of it.

Yeah your piece on it definitely piqued my interest - a real Fargo vibe oozing out.

Yeah, good Fargo cache. Interesting and thankfully subtle supernatural element tied in, too, but I didn't write about it because it's worth discovering as part of the greater narrative.

It is. Coming to Steam EA down the line.

That looks really good, are there any estimations for the full release? Just playing the first chapter in a story survival game seems a bit pointless for now. :p

It's an anthology, so the other subsequent games will tell a different story in a greater milieu. From the GoG forum, Parabole's community manager:

Kôna: Day One is the first act of a four-act series. Buying the game here only gives you the first act.

The Games in Development build contains between one to three hours of gameplay, while the final game is expected to last between two to five, if not more. So $8 for us is fairly priced for what you get.

Other acts feature different playable characters, visual style and gameplay mechanics. So each act is self-contained and tell its own story, but in the same universe.

The dev build I played isn't expanded, so the adventure-sleuthing isn't totally fleshed out or lengthened...however, I generally have no time for these kind of games, yet found Kona really cool.

Awesome looking forward to hopefully seeing it sometime.

Really want to pick up Noct but waiting for more content - interested in what you think of it tho!!!

It'll be a hearty recommendation when the content patches roll out in full, but at the moment, I'd say it's a sale purchase for a rainy day.

Fascinating ambience, waiting for meat to hang on its crunchy bones.

There seems to be some interest in the Frozen Synapse tourney in the Steam thread, I am currently asking a mod if I can post that in gaming, but if you think of participating, grab the game currently on sale for 5$ (75% off).

The buzz on the Steam forum is pretty positive, and the dev is quick active there. I think it's a safe bet.

Unrelated, any of you guys play Space Beast Terror Fright? It's been out for a good while in Early Access, and the initial NetCode was absolutely grotesque. But now? It's smooth as silk, and one of my go-to co-op games at the end of an evening. Super chunky, fantastic atmosphere, straightforward objectives.

Big fan. Very big fan.

Unrelated to your unrelatedness, but I notice that we need you more here for impression on stuff nobody tried :p

Glad to read you more again, Pylon.

I did a Quick Look on it over a year ago. I'm pretty sure when I played it didn't even have Multiplayer, but I'd have to take a look at my video to be sure. It was pretty cool single player though.
