Very nice. Planning on catching it tomorrow; hopefully I like it more than the last time a critically acclaimed R-rated film did well at the box office (American Sniper).

Reynolds doesnt need your pity guys. He was married to one of the women who teenagers first wank off to for years, now is married to Blake lively AND is worth over 50 million.
Not to mention having a body that will make your girlfriend google search images of him all day.

He is doing fine.

GODDAMN YES IT DOES GODDAMMIT

except Batman already looks better in his kryptonite armor than any single shot of him in his regular attire for BVS.

I always love it when a more risky, off the beaten path movie in a genre that got a bit stale is successful! Hopefully this will make studios a bit more open to take more risks.

What kind of horseshit justification is that and which horse's ass did you retrieve it from, and were you wearing gloves at the time, and how far up did they go, and if it wasn't at least up to the elbow, some definite health violations were going on wherever it was you were visiting, and I hope you otherwise had an eye-opening, pleasant visit there.

Updated numbers:

Deadpool Movie Opening Weekend Projections Rise To $90 Million Plus

Deadpool is now projected to gross over $90 million at the box office over the long holiday weekend.

This number is up from earlier projections of $65-70 million. Some high estimates even suggest $100 million is a possibility.

That puts the film in the company of Marvel Studios heavyweights like Guardians of the Galaxy ($94.3 million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million). See how they compare at ComicBook’s top grossing movies page.

This would be amazing if it actually hits 100 million.

This movie is going to make back its budget incredibly quickly.

Who could have known that making good movies for sensible amounts can turn healthy profits?

They already greenlit the sequel and have all but officially confirmed Cable for it.

Fox has been knocking these out the park lately (barring F4). By the end of all this I wouldn't be surprised if Fox's total Marvel revenue exceeds Disney's own at the box office.

First movie I've ever been turned away from because the theatre was full. Line was huge, fairly even mix of men/women.

Hell I even walked into opening day of Force Awakens here so it's quite a shock! Huge Deadpool fan so I'm chuffed it's doing well :)

Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah buddy.

Fox has yet to have one of their Marvel properties clear $300 mil domestic, I'm pretty sure. There's no way what you just called is going to happen in the next 20 years. They've had almost a decade headstart on making superhero movies with Marvel characters, and they're still pretty far behind Marvel when it comes to critical/financial reception.

X2, First Class & Days of Future Past are good. Deadpool's about to join that club.

Everything else is mediocre to shit, and didn't make that much money on top of it.

Hell yes. Such a great movie. Funniest I've seen in years. My audience was cracking up through the whole thing and so was I. The film completely nails Deadpool's character in every way—humor, fighting, voice, looks, everything—and keeps the story engaging with its unconventional structure. Big points to the supporting cast too. Just about everyone was perfect. Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead need to be in more things.

I didn't want to face the disappointment of Deadpool underperforming, and now I don't have to. Well deserved.

Guys. This is top 10 comic book movies. Super fun.
By far the best X-men movie.
Top 5 without a doubt, if we're talking quality.

I'd have to see it again to put it in the top handful. But if I like it on second viewing, definitely up there with the best of all time.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
A Ryan Reynolds movie that will get a sequel? Is this Bizzaro World? The Negative Zone? Dimension X? The Shadow Realm?

Also, the idea that Deadpool is receiving literally identical counterprogramming success in the comic book movie market as he did in the comic book market a decade ago is hilarious

How is a male-skewing action-comedy going against a male-skewing comedy counterprogramming?

Cable is a nightmare to do on screen because explaining who he is requires a PHD in marvel literature.

The only way to do it would be with a completely different character from scratch that is cable in name only...and really, who wants that

They didn't explain shit about him in his early comic book appearances, yet people loved him.

For Friday only?
Thursday night + Friday. And that will be the case with any figure you see today and tomorrow.

It may seem odd to people who don't normally track box office, but for films that are just opening, money made on Thursday always count towards Friday, even if Thursday showings start as early as 6PM.

$43M would mean about $30M for Friday proper. If Saturday is up minus previews, $100M could happen. Even if it doesn't, we might be looking at the new R rated opening record and February opening record.

This is great. It's definitely one of the best comic book movies. Especially at capturing the characters personality. Which is pretty incredible considering most Deadpool comics don't even make him interesting.

If you'd finished the sentence you'd know. Deadpool is popular in comic books for his selfawareness and lack of restraint, and now in the age of the superhero film he's emerging in the same exact way (4th wall breaking, R-rated cbm, etc.) . This movie wouldn't be doing the numbers its doing if it were release a decade ago. Being surrounded by such big contrasting competition (BvS, CW, Xmen) gives it the required context to succeed. And when posters are marketing it as a romantic comedy than yes it is counterprogramming

Nothing on First Class.
I swear people only remember McAvoy and Fassbender from First Class, and block out some of the other parts.

I re-watched First Class recently and it has a lot more of the cheesy superhero movie parts than I remembered. Lot's of corny dialog and "moments", especially from some of the side characters.

People remember the Fassbender Nazi hunting scene that opened the film. The rest of the movie was able to coast on that scene's good impression. Also, it was the first decent x-film in 8 years.
