Oh I get it. It usually takes me a while to elevate my play so to speak. All I'm saying is I'm getting there pretty quickly, and I wish the game had more modes in order for me to get my money's worth so to speak.
Y'all had the beta for a while, so I'm sure you got more experience. But am I really the only one who feels there's been a step down from previous iterations, somewhat? I find that strange. I'll be sure to post impressions as I improve.
Well, you are pretty much fighting the systems in place far less than before, so you are able to get to the "meat" of the game faster. In addition to that, fundies are far more important than bullshit tactics, so you'll be throwing out and spacing out things instead of worrying about hitting links all the time and executing combos.
That isn't to say those things aren't there, they just are more about fighting the opponent rather than spending hours grinding it out.
And your execution can still drop in a match. Maybe even sometimes moreso with SFV, since you can't rely on Ultras/easy backdashes/whatever, and the damage is so high that you don't have many opportunities to fuck up hard. So breaking midmatch is going to be more common, and from that, the game is going to be more stressful, and more thoughtout per match.
As for how characters play, most of them seem to be able to be used in different ways, rather than just the most optimal formats. I mean, I bet there will be optimal ways to play characters, but the range is going to be more than SF4, where if you played someone in a different way, you were looking for that L.
Like, you can play Ryu as a stun monster, or defensively and rely on that parry more often. Or mix and match. Ken MIGHT be better at long range rather than rushdown primarily, and Mika's corner game is better than elsewhere, but for the latter, it's about getting to the corner that's the fun part.
So basically, they want you to get in the game faster so you can start fighting real people and start learning your style and the style of others, and focus on that mental game more often than not rather than worrying about grinding out combos and dialing those in. Which you will still do, but it'll be more about the application rather than the length.
