Greenberg: Quantum Break is not coming to Steam

From what I've gathered so far, there seem to be 2 primary groups of PC gamers in this thread:

1)Those that view the PC platform like a beefier console; they don't care about the "closed" aspect of the Store.

2)Those that want total control over the product via modifications and other 3rd party apps; they PC gaming as an open platform.

1) Those that do read the thread.

2) Those that don't.

If they view the PC like a beefier console you can't really call them PC gamers.

It's like calling console gamer a PC gamer which only play console games on emulators.

1) PC is not a console it will never be a console.

2) PC is an open platform with different stores and still open to mod,to customize the game the way you want it as it was years ago but like it was pointed it out numerous times in this thread putting games behind a walled garden like the windows store without anything you can do with the game is not the way how PC gaming goes.

We are still talking about video games right? You seem to be talking about some religious or political movement.

I remember back in the early 2000's when people found out to play counter strike they would have to download this awful other program called steam

Nah, read it (not all now 16 pages tbh). What's being bitched about doesn't interest me even when I've been a PC gamer since I built my first rig with a 9700 Pro and RDRAM. But to each their own. I'm sorry you're so triggered by this, but I'm allowed to think it's stupid as all hell.

I'm so triggered I'm actually red in the face!

What a childish response.

A lot of them did.

"a lot"

The service wouldn't have been abandoned the way it did if the numbers were big enough.

It's not the only example either. DRM like Ubisofts early efforts or SECURom would still be a thing if PC gamers had just accepted them. Hell, we can take the original Xbox one reveal or the release of windows 8 as other examples.

If companies do BS, complaining and not buying stuff is the best reaction to take.

It's DirectX 12 exclusive. DirectX 12 is exclusive to Windows 10.

Again, this has not been explicitly stated. Just because that is the available info now does not mean it can not happen, hence my comment that a Windows 7 version is not entirely out of the question. If they fully deny any other version being available on Win7 / Steam, then I'd agree. The fact such a simple yes/no question needed such a specifically worded response is dubious to me

PC as a console is something I don't really agree with either, but there's no denying the number of times I've seen PC being simply refereed to as a more powerful console.

What constitutes as "PC gaming" clearly means different things to people.

This post comes across as if you think it's impossible to be both.

_______

Yes, which is why I put "edit".

Because it's clearly not both. If it was both then the game would also be on other storefronts. Origin and Uplay interface perfectly fine with Steam so I don't see why Microsoft couldn't find a way to do so. If they sold the game in more places on the PC then it would have a much better chance of being a success.

The success of this game is secondary to them as their priority is getting people onto Windows 10 and the store. Only once they feel they have exhausted that will they possibly give the game a chance of being successful and release it on steam.

We are still talking about video games right? You seem to be talking about some religious or political movement.

I notice a pattern with your posts in this thread - your "arguments" seem to mostly boil down to belittling those who care deeply about the medium of gaming.

Even if you are in camp 1 the Windows Store is a pretty bad option imo. Going by MS previous PC efforts you might be unable to redownload your games in a few years (see GFWL). Your controller of choice might also be incompatible.

I'm someone who rarely uses mods but I still won't bother with the Windows store.

There were/are (happy) responses from people for simply not having to buy an Xbox One to play the game so I do think that point #1 was accurate. It's not true for all PC gamers though.

It isn't accurate what is this nonsense i keep reading? PC gaming is about flexibility the way to mod the game to your leisure to tinker with the game files to make it work the way you want it/,to make your pc beefier with a new gpu or ram memory etc.

I am never going to buy a Xbox One anyway but seeing how Microsoft keeps missing the point what makes PC gaming different than on a console and put everything behind their closed doors without you cannot do anything is a overall like i said before a very bad idea and they haven't changed since 2004.

Apologies...i find this whole attitude towards pc gaming to be ridiculous. Sorry i let that color my commentary.

My arguments stand on their own merit though. Games are meant to be played...other things are incidental and not important.

I owned a few GFWL titles and it always shit up the experience. But I'm still not going to deprive myself of being able to play a game from a Dev I absolutely love just cause I can't add reshade or maybe get slower patches. Its still better than buying an xbox

I can't see this being a big issue

Sarcasm? (my detector has been acting up)

For me Steam IS the PC platform. If a game is not on Steam it is not on PC*. When I get Humble bundles that include Uplay or Origin games I simply give them away.

*Blizzard and their damned Battle.Net are the only exception

Games are meant to be played the way I want, not the way a multinational company wants to impose me. That is why I pay for.

What a childish response.

A week ago you didn't even know this was coming to PC, and now you're here complaining it's not exactly how you want it. That my friend is childish.

But mom I wanted the Blue Power Ranger!!! Get a grip, you're acting like I was signaling you out from the start.

This isn't an argument, that is a purely subjective preference. It's not your job to decide what other peole should think is or isn't important.

Your third post that doesn't contribute anything but insults. Anythign worthwhile coming forth or can we put you on the ignorelist?

What are you doing on Neogaf then?

This is to be expected and a good move for Microsoft. They are testing the waters here, throwing out a trojan disguised as a free giveaway for pre orders on the Xbone version. They want us in the economy system. Obviously I'm ignoring it since there's no steam release and if I get it, it will be either cheap or physical on XB1. I just don't trust MS for PC gaming so they will have to prove themselves first.

Again, you're belittling. Why are you posting anyways?

This is news to me.

So what should I refer to myself since I don't tinker with my PC games, but I do play games on my PC and upgrade its parts?

I don't agree with this statement but whatever. Let's assume it's true. Do you seriously think not allowing me to run the game on discrete GPU instead of integrated, when the latter doesn't fit the requirements, fits into your argument?

Most of the biggest games on PC aren't even on Steam, lol

Steam is relatively small in the PC market.

So even if I could add the game to Steam via the bat-->exe proxy, I probably won't be able to use a steam controller or even stream it to Steam Link, right?

Since keyboard and mouse work...i assume someone could write a utility for it to show up as that. Not really familiar with how it works currently. It can't possible use normal controller inputs.

And you aren't either by the looks of your posts just shitposting in general.

His post history suggests he mainly supports Xbox as a platform, which is fine. but explains why he's so... Anti-anti-Microsoft? I guess?

That's available directly through the in-game menu options though, and, yes, I do that. UWA allow that, did it just the other day with Gigantic.

He seems to be referring to actually modifying the game.

Nah, I know what Nok is trying to say, he means being able to change the settings of the game as well as modding and stuff :p

Agreed, it really should be highlighted further - but it would go to shit anyway, just like this thread...

ps3ud0 8)

I don't know, this thread is showing a strong suggestion that the windows 10 store as a destination for gamers is likely to fall over like a drunken baby.

A week ago you didn't even know this was coming to PC, and now you're here complaining it's not exactly how you want it. That my friend is childish.

Hahaha, I'm not even very interested in the game, you'd know if you would have read a single post I've made.

But mom I wanted the Blue Power Ranger!!! Get a grip, you're acting like I was signaling you out from the start.

I'm not even sure how you came to that conclusion! You made a general shitpost, I just happened to respond to it

e: before you manage to write a thought-provoking response, let me spell it out for you: I don't want PC to become a closed environment. Just because you're willing to give up your freedom, I'm not. Aside from my very first post in this thread, I have not been talking about QB at all.

Yeah, we should all bow down and suck Microsoft's dick for bestowing upon us the opportunity to give them money for a piece of software from their store that goes against the core idea of PC gaming; an open platform where users are free to tinker and customize in order to achieve the optimal experience for them. You sound like just about every corporate ball-washer I've come across on GAF, the kind who says that users can't do shit to affect the publishers' plans, right before Microsoft abandons their DRM strategy.
