Republican Debate 9 [CBS News] Screw you guys, I'm going home

I thought everyone lost but Kasich I suppose.

Bush annoys me the most because he could be better, but perhaps he's just that weak. He tries hard but can't finish.

Rubio is above all else, a special interests prostitute. He's such a follower that he goes along with the trump wall, okay.

Is the GOP dead?

Nationally, yes. That ship has sailed years ago, around the time when their own base turned on George Bush in the late 00's. It will be decades before we have another Republican president, or whatever the party turns into by then. Still, they can and do reek all sorts of havoc in local and statewide elections. This is what's given them the House of Representatives and to a lesser degree, the Senate. (They'll lose the Senate in this next election cycle.)

They're the best party to turn to when your business needs to fuck over the public in order to turn a profit. So in that sense, the GOP will never die. Those companies are also largely influential in our news media, which mainly caters to older folk who LOVE to vote. So we're basically waiting for those old codgers to die off until we can finally get some reasonable changes happening.

"My mom is the strongest woman I know."
"She should be running."

dying, send help

lol'd hard at that

Jeb has this bad habit of phrasing things weirdly. Like he could have just said "I have the best Mom in the world." Instead he says something weird about how when he was born and looked up and saw his mom it was like winning the lottery.

His debate prep people are absolutely atrocious. They're giving Oscar Isaac lines to a Hayden Christensen.

What was the context of that "I'll give him a warm kiss" line a few debates back?

Ugh. I forget the context, but yeah. That was the result of his people promising the donors that he'd turn into "Al Pacino in this next debate, and handle Tump like the little bitch he is. You'll see." Completely fucking pathetic.

EDIT: Jeb's number one job on that stage should be to never mention Trump's name. Period. Because when he does, Trump has to respond, as per the rules. And that never turns out well for poor ol Jebby. Just steer the topic away from that guy, you goddamn moron.

EDIT2: I can't wait for Game Change 2: Jeb!

Trump was ruthless and had huge balls, attacking the Iraq war and the false WMD reports in front of a stinky GOP donors/special interests audience. He even one of the first to go publicly and accuse bush of not listening to the CIA regarding 9/11 (aka unofficial way of saying it was an inside job).

Abridged version of the debate w/ the key moments / highlights (2 hours compressed into just under 30 minutes):

Thanks for the link. I live in Greenville and I didn't even watch the debate. That was mainly due to me working, but I was also watching the NBA dunk contest instead because as a Magic fan I had to support Aaron Gordon.

I'm so ready for this circus to move out of town though, it was crazy here yesterday. I'm not a Republican though, so I didn't get all pumped up like most people around here did about having the debate in town. It was pretty funny to see the ridiculous amount of signs that were put up overnight though. I don't know how it was for the rest of the city, but on my way to work there was an insane number of Ted Cruz signs. Not sure if that means there are more Ted Cruz supporters here, or if his support group is just crazy because there were literally signs every few feet going down the street. I also saw some lady go to a big Ted Cruz sign, cross his name out, and then write Jeb's name on it, which made me laugh.

That's not saying its an inside job. Christ the CIA would be the insiders!

Man if trump wasn't so insane I'd actually like the guy. Doubling down on George W being wrong about Iraq, defending planned parenthood for doing good things for women, wants to stop businesses from shipping work overseas for tax breaks.... That's all reasonable shot right there that all the other republicans try to hate on him for

I could be wrong, but isn't South Carolina a very socially conservative state? If so,that probably explains the Ted Cruz signs.

Someone posted this on reddit. Trumps deal criticism is clearly not just a method of winning votes and he 100% calls the events in Iraq (ever it spreading to other countries).

The American left need to realise hes legit and not just a clown as laughing at him is going to put them at odds with a lot of Americans.

I don't see how this debate can be seen as anything but a big win for Trump.

He really hammered away at the delusions of the establishment GOP which a lot of conservative voters feel alienated from.

Yeah, George Bush's failures play right into Trump's base, which supports him because they feel he's qualified on the basis of not being a politician. The failures of any previous political figure, republican or democrat, just plays into their deeply held belief that we need to elect a non-politician to the office if we want an effective president. I really don't see this hurting Trump. It's nothing but red meat for his base.
I also just think that if you talk to the average Republican voter in rural America, that they have the same reservations about the Iraq war and Bush's presidency. Trump is giving voice to Republican voter opinions that typically would never find their way to the national stage.

I don't agree. Depending of the candidate GOP has a real chance of winning presidential elections.

This years that guy is Marco Rubio, but I don't know if he will get the nominee.

I used to think this about Rubio but he is going so far right in this primary that it reminds me of Romney.

Primaries usually causes this, Hillary is also going more left because of Sanders's pressure on her.

But in general election Rubio has the appeal to take the independents and win. In fact looking at the Real Clear Politics average, he has the best performance against Hillary in the republican field.

What Trump has done to Jeb, and the Bush name... He has to win the presidency. Otherwise he's going to feel the wrath from the Bush dynasty somehow. I wouldn't be surprised if he fell down some stairs for the stuff he's said about them. He attempts no tact and has just been vicious for someone so high profile.

Huh? I really don't think gives a shit about any Bush dynasty. I'm pretty sure Trump is worth more then the Bush's anyway.

He's done already. It's over for him.

It's strange I don't find him particularly vicious. He was shouting down the usual nonsense. Bush was a terrible President, most acknowledge this and the fact is his administration resided over 9/11; Iraq; the economic crisis (which he was leaderless in) and he over saw the destruction of two US cities, one by natural disaster and another by economic disaster.

I still find if rather bizarre the establishment on both sides dont realise that maybe having family members of the last two Presidents before the sitting one was maybe a really bad strategy.

30 second warning first ding. Time's up second ding.
I'm pretty sure the ding comes only at the end of the allotted time and then gets repeated periodically if the candidate continues speaking. They only got one minute for each response, so having a 30 second warning ding, especially one that shrill, would be bad.

I think Trump will be trouble for the democrats if only for the fact that he hates the bushes as much as a typical left wing liberal does.

If he gets the nom, he will be shitting on the bush name every chance he gets. I'm looking forward to it.

I think there are 3 things Trump has on Hillary:
1) her support of the Iraq war
2) her relatively weak and flipfloppy stance on the TPP
3) her donors/campaign finance

Honestly those are 3 big talking points in foreign policy, economy, and 'establishment'. No wonder people think Bernie would do better against Trump than Hillary.

Nah. Putting aside that only one of those is actually effective, Hillary has one thing that Trump is super weak against. Ironically it is not a policy thing, but rather, if Trump breathes a hint of anything sexist, the female vote will have his head.

Trump also has that nationalism factor, make america great again, etc... that I believe Hillary lacks. I see Hillary as someone prepared, with the intelligence and experience... but she lacks that "it" to excite people and that Trump has. I think Trump will be a very strong candidate in the general for Hillary to beat.

For liberal women, sure. But it will take much more than that for conservative women to suddenly switch parties.

So he just doesn't say anything sexist and he gets the Presidency? The lack of panic on the Left that they have a socialist and what is effectively a Democratic Romney.

It's not the women in the Republican party whose vote needs to be courted, now is it? Based on the three issues above, it's not like liberal women are going to flip to Trump on those issues if he dares to say Hillary is ugly or suggest she's menstruating. And you think women, regardless of affinity, aren't going to get pissed if he does that?

So the funny thing about this is that even liberals can be unintentionally sexist because moving on the minefield that are women's feelings is probably not nearly as easy as "just don't say anything sexist". Remember when Bernie asked why 'people' are shouting and then his advisor came out saying "well, she's good enough to be a VP" and got blasted for it?

As if it's that easy when women are out for your blood.

Too late for that.

Honestly, I think it's easy for us to forget how truly awful some of Trump's stances have been during his campaign because a) we've been following him this whole time; and b) not even most of the Republican candidates have gone hard on him because, when it comes right down to it, they believe a lot of the same shit he's just outright saying. And the only person on that stage with the balls to really take Trump on (Jeb), is woefully bad at it. Bullies only look intimidating when they pick on the weakest kids of the bunch.

I think it would take just one debate of a Hillary Clinton not held back by the constraints of debating a fellow Democrat relentlessly hammering him to remind every woman, homosexual, African American, Mexican and Muslim just how awful he has been toward their communities. Hillary also has the power to forcefully debate Trump on the facts, something very few Republicans on that stage have been able to do. As with Bernie, "I was against the war in Iraq" will only take you so far.

I mean, I get what you're saying, but by the time the generals come around Trump is going to have a significant team around him.
I'm almost certain his running mate is going to be a woman. Possibly even Carly Fiorina.

Can't choose another outsider. I think Nikki Haley would serve him better.

I can't thank crisdecuba enough for his recap videos. Couldn't watch the debates so it's great to wake up to a recap video.

I think a lot of us are guilty on this one, to be fair. Everyone wanted it to like it, especially after the way Kojima was treated by Konami, but with the way the second half of it turned out, you can hardly blame everyone for changing their minds on it.

Weird, Ben Carson's point that life time appointments for judges not really being considered an issue when lifespan was only 50 years is actually a neat point. Probably would be a great reason for removing life-time appointments for Federal judges.
