Greenberg: Quantum Break is not coming to Steam

I see what you mean. But, they let you shut it off right there. I can't say that for my Android which reports everything to Google and never asked me.

Are you kidding me? I have all of that disabled on my S6 Active (that is if you believe any of the big time corporations are telling the truth). It was very easy to not allow any of it, lol.

None of it was active by default, again supposedly, and you had the option to allow or not allow ever first time boot up to any of the Google branded apps. I have not even set up the main Google app that does all of that, because it is meaningless with other apps, or third party apps you can get.

And Location Services enable/disable is a hot button away if I so choose.

android also asks you while you set it up if you go to "customize" just like you have to do during windows 10 set up. It being default behavior is the scary part. Especially since windows update have been known to re-enable things.
Well fine, but if it's par for the course I can't (and wouldn't) single them out for it. I wish it was the opposite.

I am not kidding I never saw it. Which means billions of others didn't either. If you can shut it off then I won't refute that.

So many windows haters here, and just because Microsoft want to push their store by releasing a game on their store instead of paying fees to Steam...they don't spy your emails or files, it's just about what apps you download and your location and you can disable even that, the one who actually spy your emails are Google

When I installed Windows 10 I did the Custom install and turned off all the options I could, yet low and behold if I go to the task manager Cortana is still running.
And sorry, but saying 'She' is enabled by default made me chuckle. :p

He's technically right, the cortana assistant is disabled. The cortana service is still running. The data collection is still enabled by default.

windows 10 is nice but my 980 ti audio driver doesn't play well with it and causes blue screens.
its hardly perfect.

Major aside here but I've been having system locks and BSOD since installing my 980ti. How did you narrow it down to your audio driver? I thought it was my CPU overclock so just upped the volts slightly, but maybe I'm having the same problem.

I was referring to default being windows 10 sending your information to microsoft. Sorry i think i misunderstood. the personal assistant is disabled. collecting data is enabled.

No problem. Yes, collecting data is enabled by default but you can clearly disable it. Also, all of that data is anonymized for telemetry data. Microsoft has been collecting data since forever. It's on Windows 7 as well. You want to know why they got rid of the Start button? They saw that users rarely used the button at all and used the desktop and the task bar on Windows vista,XP,7. How did they get that data? Yep, they took it. Nowadays people are more informed and MS is giving people options to what is being collected. Just wanted to inform you.

It the very first thing it asks you when you first start any of the apps, it is not in a big list, it is a pop up that does not let you proceed. At least how it was on my phone. And this was the first Android I owned since being with Apple for over 6 years. I was actually quite pleased with how upfront it was, without having to dig like some other products.

I find it hard to believe sli is not supported on w10 store games. Is this confirmed or what? No sli is the only real problem I've heard so far and that is a big one for me. I dont care if i can't use steam, I care if I can't use my 2nd 980ti.

Is it the would like to share anonymous data box? I might recall that, but I haven't installed a new app that asked that in a while (at least that I can remember). Anyway if you can do it that's great.

To the original point as I was sidetracked, I personally don't see asking up front with everything enabled to be worse in any way. The option is clearly there if you read. It is obviously better for these companies if you say yes so they emphasize that option whenever they can. If anyone is in disagreement and thinks that the default should be off, well we could go around in circles on that for a while, but it personally doesn't bother me.

That's the big difference there. It's not selling data to advertisers.

I have no idea why people want to disable everything and gimp it. Is it paranoia? I find everything it does very helpful and it feels like a Personal Computer that knows me.

They don't ask everything up front. You have to manually select a "customized" install during setup. Obviously most users don't do this and just go with the default settings. If you do not click customize, then it is just accepted as the default.

Some users do not need their machine that plays games and watches youtube videos to "know them". Why would I ever want that? What life-changing feature am I going to get from windows knowing where I have been all day and what web sites I have gone to. Oh yea.. personalized advertisements.

Given that there is no exclusive full screen support Sli/Xfire cannot work.

Well then I guess I was smart enough to press customize and didn't remember you had to because I shut all that off. I guess you are right and it's a little shady then.

Nice to know that you can move it but the lack of exclusive full-screen is a real killer.

What happens if the game has frame pacing issues or your hardware isn't beefy enough to hold 60fps and you need to cap it at 30fps? Rise of the Tomb Raider is a demanding game and a lot of PCs can't hit 60fps. Capping at 30fps can make the game much more playable and enable a consistent level of performance. You cannot do this with the Windows Store version.

Someone else noted that g-sync doesn't work with Windows Store games which, again, is a pretty big issue for those that own such a display.

If you have an nVidia card, you can cap it to 30 by setting adaptive vsync half refesh in the global profile in nVidia control panel.

I suspect you could make G-Sync work the same way--someone really ought to test it.

It's just makes things easier for me. Meetings I forget to put in my calendar. Looking up weather and not having to tell it where I live. Sports scores and news on my favorite teams. Movie news on the shit I like. Updates from my Stocks. Remember directions and routes I used before.

It just makes things easier in my life. *shrugs*

Judging by this thread, a lot of people are stupid enough to believe this.

Sometimes I feel like GFWL didn't happen at all, or it really wasn't a big deal really. I mean the fact that you lost your purchases and you can go fuck yourself, that's totally fine. That's what people expect from digital marketplaces I guess.

Valve is just waiting for the day that they can just fuck over everyone's library.

That seems like a very large oversight. It's actually pretty damn hard to believe.
I believe someone confirmed multiple pages back that SLI works for the Windows store version of Tomb Raider and it was just broken on release but has been fixed. I'm not sure if it was ever refuted or verified beyond this.

I believe someone also confirmed GSYNC works in borderless window so works, but doesn't necessarily perform as great, which could be improved. Also don't know if it was verified or refuted past that. They were all passing comments.

The lack of fullscreen is not a bug. It's the intended behavior of the applications in the Windows Store. As of today, it's impossible to any application to use true fullscreen in Windows Store. Because of that I really doubt that's something that it's going to be fixed any time soon.

That being said, that are some workarounds to get SLI working in Rise of the Tomb Raider. But SLI in windowed mode is always a hit and miss.

I keep hearing people say that G-sync doesn't work with windows 10 apps, but I'm wondering why. It no longer needs fullscreen games for it to work properly. Is it because of the forced vsync in the windows apps?

I'm wondering this too. Just above I reposted some information from a user claiming it worked, but I don't have a means of confirming it either.

I feel like given this development nvidia will try to improve SLI in windowed mode. It seems like a safe bet they will at least try, but we'll see how it goes. People in general are using borderless windowed more.

I don't think Google, Amazon, Apple or MS are just going away. Pretty sure digital purchases are safe regardless what happened in the past. All have embraced the digital future and I'm not sweating buying from any of these companies, and I do.

Meh. I'll stick to my "ancient" W7 for as long as possible thank you very much. At least I know that all the software and games I need to use works perfectly on there. And in the rare cases that it doesn't then there are always well documented workarounds available.
Amen. I'll be sticking with W7 for the foreseeable future.

It's probably insane, but my Linux desktop can do all of these things without collecting any information about me...

Can you even stay with W7? Is there a constant nag screen or are you just going to boot it up one day and it will have made itself W10 without asking lol.

They're not going to force you, just charge you for it later on down the line. An annoying popup whenever you boot up is all I get at work, but I haven't even tried looking into turning it off so it might be possible to get it to go away.

Reinstalled 7 about 2 months ago after Win10 prompts, and screwing up auto updates because I removed the Win10 files due to it wanting to install it over and over. It was due time since Win 7 has been running for almost 6 years for a fresh install anyhow.

I never installed the "recommended updates" garbage, so I do not even have the Win10 prompt or tray crap. Feels good.

I'm right here with you man. The less information they get out of me, the better. I don't trust them to use it to my benefit or altruistic motives. And whatever small benefit there may exist, is outweighed by the loss in privacy. I'm not about to give that up. Information is power, I'm not about to give them more power.

It's the same deal with the Kinect. They were so focused on touting the Kinect tech, how it monitors heartbeat, senses your mood, tracks your eyes, or whatever else, they forgot how it would really bring value to the customer. Whatever small QoL bonuses (using voice commands), is trivial to possible privacy concerns. Might not matter to others, but matters to me. In the end, the tech didn't even live up to whatever potential they thought it had, so they abandoned it.

Yep. They underestimated that the human consumers are not slaved enough just yet to bite on that carrot.

I just fear that some of this Win10 or store stuff will not change, due to, the simple psychology, if you push it on people enough, they eventually conform and accept it. Especially when younger generations become consumers and forget the past/history as we almost often do. I remember when Steam first hit, there was a mass outcry of, FUCK NO. I was one of them. But we all wanted that HL2 and here we are today.

I mean shit, a lot of young gamers on here forget (or never even knew) you were once able to install a damned game and do what you want with it with FULL 100% unequivocal end user control (judging by their pro anti-consumer acceptance and support, lol). They are growing up in the DRM future, thus it is accepted, since they never knew any other way. These large corporations seem to want to control the end user, and shape the needs and wants of the end user more so than a time where the consumer once shaped the company and services they provided.

Practically Orwellian.

On the other hand, one system error can completely fuck up the entire app environment. Ever since I started using Windows 10 I already had few situation where a bad system update or whatever broke my system and I couldn't download nor update anything from the Windows Store (the infamous Windows Store 0x80070003 error) and/or few apps stopped working completely (they would close on loading screen). To fix that I had to either mess with Windows PowerShell or reinstall the system (or wait for the major update, thankfully I'm on the Fast Ring so they come once a month or two).

So no, Microsoft's Windows Store and the overall app sandbox isn't that perfect and error free.

Didn't say it was perfect...its young and things are still shaky

Apps however didn't cause that problem

It seems to me that MS has to climb a very steep mountain and they have not realized this yet.
At least that is what i get from this thread.

The only think i'd like to know is if i digital preorder the game on Xbox One will i receive the PC code at least on day one, or they could send it after the game release? Cause buying it on Xbox One i could share it with my brother who as Xbox too, but i wanna play it at its best on PC on day one

For this deal, I believe you receive the code at most 10 days later after you preorder. But you could get instantly. It's just an email with a code.

So many windows haters here

I bought my newest computer (the HP Star Wars SE laptop) for the express purpose of getting W10 pre-installed without any hassle.

I wouldn't touch the Windows Store with a 10-foot pole. Steam is leaps and bounds better in virtually every way possible.

Wow...thats all I have

I can see many of you forgetting about all of this when the game releases and you just wanna play something. Free game with xbox one copy, not losing anything. If you purchase on pc atleast u get to play it. May not be better than steam and you get 0 perks but atleast its there compared to not being able to experience at all.

There it is again. Be grateful, shut the fuck up and take what you are given.

It is not only your right to be vocal about the quality of a product, but your duty. Feedback is crucial to any significant change in the quality of a product and not the silent - will not buy - protest. Discontent should be loud full bodied protestations. Windows Store is a terrible way to sell games and being quiet and respectful about that fact helps nobody. Least of all MS.

Top Bottom
