Going to try again tonight to see if I can get a few more games, is there a way to just play people on PS4 I don't have an issue with PC gamers per-say it's just at when playing PC opponents the game seemed to be a lot more laggey with the player seeming to stutter about on the screen.

EX SBK is definately not safe lol. Shouldnt be throwing it out often.

What is SBK? It's not in the notation article.

You can limit your search to PS4 only.

So, after a couple days playing, I feel really underwhelmed by the product Capcom has released. The fighting is superb, I love it, so let's set that aside for a moment, because a product or a fighting game is not only fighting.

In general, I feel the game not only doesn't offer good solutions to ancient problems, but it does it worse in many cases. When I'm navigating the menus and playing the different modes, my general feeling is that they designed it, started doing it, but never came back to test it. There're so many decisions that don't make any sense.

Let's start with CNF. Not only it doesn't help you find people around you, but just before release, they were talking about how you could filter by region. Well, no, it doesn't work. You filter by region and it deletes everybody that is not from that region, but the actual position remains the same. So you can't never know your position related to your region. The when you go into countries, it doesn't find anybody, two, three people for my region. Probably because it only takes people from high positions instead of filtering all the people in your country, like it should.

Then you have Story Mode. Didn't anybody think it was possibly a good idea to have a diffficulty selection? I understand it's a way to introduce the game to those unfamiliar, but you can do that just the same with a dificulty setting. They are short, I know, but they lack any interest. I will not even go into the general feeling of amateurism the mode reeks from a production point of view.

Then you have Survival. Four difficulty settings that will let you unlock colors. Okay, they idea is not bad, but the execution is. Why should I need to go through all four modes? I mean, it's very time consuming and it doesn't provide any actual challenge or acomplishment feeling. What they should have done is let you choose your dificulty level. That will be a multiplayer of te points you're getting (prices aalso multiply). Then there're milestones and once you reach these, you unlock the colors. This way, everybody, despite their level, can enjoy the experience of unlocking every color, without being forced to play in difficulties that are out of their level.

Training is probably the more fleshed out mode. It's pretty good, but it is missing some essential features (why do I need to make my preferences every damn time I boot up the game? Why there's no info on what V-Skills or V-Trigger does?) and some others that should be essential in every fighting game (frame data, hit and hurt boxes. I should not need to resort to third parties to find these).

Then we have Ranked. So the matchmaking is certainly better than in SFIV, but the whole system is still as stupid as it gets. You can filter connections, but that filter only takes into account the ping. No packet loss check of any kind. So, even when you set your incoming connections to five, if you find a WiFi Warrrior, you're in for a treat. It is so, so, so frustrating. You can't even report these. There's actually no system that punishes rage quitters.

eSports, they say. There's nothing that makes this game a better eSport tool than SFIV, in fact. Every tournament has Bo3 matches, but this rank is based on Bo1. That's ridiculous. Every fucking eSport has the same rules for pros and ameteours alike when you're playing Ranked. Bo3 iss important because adaptation is very important in fighting games, they know that, yet they go for Bo1. It's stupid.

I don't carre about the game being barebones, but I care that what there is, execpt for the actual fighting, is a complete joke. Well, at least they got the most important thing nailed and can improve (rebuild) everything else as time goes on. One can hope, at least.

Spinning Bird Kick? I dunno either

spinning bird kick lol

Chun Li's Spinning Bird Kick (helicopter kicks)

If we're talking about Chun-Li, then it's Spinning Bird Kick.

SBK= Spinning Bird Kick

CHeck you pm as well

Spinning bird kick
A big thank you for the explanation guys. Top notch. :)

Literally 6 people rushed to answer his question and did so in the same minute lol :D

I love this community <3
It's one of the best communities I have seen on GAF for 10+ years honestly.

EX SBK is definately not safe lol. Shouldnt be throwing it out often.

really? well the only times I throw it out is when someone is jumping in, that's why, and people never punish it when they block it so I assumed it was safe, sorry

A lot of his specials aren't safe even with fireball cover. What are you having problems with specifically?

feels like every single of his buttons are better than mine and come out faster, his ex moves are pretty safe too ( that one where he lunges at you and kick infront twice in EX has to be safe, I couldn't even jab after it, he jabbed me first) not very precise sorry.. I don't know the name of his moves :(

How does a R. Mika player deal with a Ryu who is very good at controlling the distance but otherwise spams hadoukens?

I still really struggle with getting my charging done properly.. still Rome wasn't built in a day, know things are going to be tough!

What's a good way to practice executing combos in-match? I can pull them off in the lab with a dummy, but when it comes time to actually do them in a match I frequently screw up.

Why does it feels like Nash is super safe on anything he does? every special or normals, I can't seem to punish him at all!

His moonsault is safe on block (except for maybe the EX version), but you can hit him while he's in the air before he launches the kick. Think of it like a jumping attack where you can anti-air it.

Set the dummy to be a CPU. It's not really representative of a real match, but at least it gives you a chance to practice on something that isn't standing still.

Anyone down for a Battle Lounge?

ID : DiscoShark
US East - Bronze Rank

Set the training dummy to be a CPU and practice landing your combos against an opponent that hits you back.

You gotta be really patient in that mu. It's tough but you just gotta play footsies and wait for your chance to go in. The EX elbow is your best tool if they like throwing fireballs.

This is what someone else told me here and it worked. I also got a problem with Mirror matches as Laura its the exact same as the Ryu match up imo.

Try against a cpu in the lab

Or what I like to do, is practice against some of the things that make me fuck up my combo execution

Try recording actions for the dummy on repeat and just keep trying it over and over again

No need to be sorry, everyone is learning the game. But yeah, when they mistime their jump you'll hit them for sure. But it is punishable if they block and they get a free counterhit for it.

So I play my first online matches and it's Ken back to back. 3 terrible Kens ... I lost all of them lol. First time fighting online, so interesting and fun.

Anyone have the link to the Neogaf spreedsheet?

Setting my connection to Any gave me a ton of matches, not straight up followed, but only a 3-10 minute wait now so it's good.

Got to Bronze too, on to Super Bronze!

Man the later rounds of Survival can be really fucking aggravating. The CPU becomes insane
It's so frustrating lol. I breeze through normal and then 27 Gief shows up and shit gets real but I manage. Then I get to Bison at 30 and get absolutely wrecked. I just want my colors man. :(

I don't even want to think about hard.

Laura mirrors are tough since it's basically you and the opponent trying to out think each other with the mix ups. It's about getting them knocked down first and starting your mix up first since there isn't much Laura can do on wake up besides her unsafe EX elbow.

I think a fully charged HK goes through fireballs? Otherwise, holding v-skill might force him to come to you.

Same exact here. Round 1-26 are a breeze mostly. 27 it starts ramping up then 29 and 30 are absolutely crazy. Just frustrating failing on the last 2 rounds and having to replay the whole thing

His moonsault (where he does a front flip kick) is unsafe and can be air-to-air or anti air with normals. His scythe kicks are very unsafe without being in the right range and even then it can be punished with most critical arts. I am not sure about the data on his EX moves but I think most of them are negative on block and can be dealt with/crush countered accordingly. His EX moonsault is like +3 or +4 on block which is why he can jab you before you can even get it out. his overhead (-4 on block) is also punishable on block so don't forget to throw a move in there to interrupt pressure and combo your own.

Becareful with that, because you're not invincible with it as an anti air. I usually bait those out standing next to them and neutral jumping, because jumping neutral medium kicks usually beats it clean.

Reposting for new page.

If any FANG players could share some tips, I'd really appreciate it.

MP has decent range and cancels into specials, I use this while backwalking. HP is a great button but has shit range. It can cancel, however, and will crush counter.

cMP, HP, and cMK seem to be his best buttons, and they all cancel.

I've had success with using LP Nishikyu for oki setups, such as a sweep or a crossup dash as they're blocking the poison globs.

Normal cancel into LK Ryobenda is an escape tool I use all the time. HP Ryobenda for keepaway or more wakeup shenanigans.

V Skill whenever. Just fill the screen with crap.

Sotoja is not safe on block unless at max range.

Anyone noticing lag with PS3 sticks on PS4?

Reports say there is, but I can't notice it and many pros are still using their PS3 sticks.

I like that characters are pre-selected for ranked and that is only a single ranking stat (unlike PP/BP), but the same ranking for all characters? That sucks, means I switch to a different character and lose LP.

what do people do to punish things that push you out of normal range as Mika? Is QCF PP good to just throw out? I'm not sure how fast it is as a reversal/long distance punish option

I need some help with this. I'm playing with Rashid, how can I break an opponent blocking while crouching

Try faking them out with the LK variant of some moves. When you get close, try throwing--or making them think you're going to throw them. Let them whiff, then punish.

You aren't supposed to poke as your main mode of offense with Ken, it should be your main mode for getting in, i.e. whiff-punishing or counter-poking then closing the distance. His buttons look stubby but I think his hurtboxes don't stick out that much making them better to hang out at a range outside of the buttons your opponent wants to use. His dash is so fast so you can close that distance.

Thx, I'll try to make more use of his dash.

Played around in story and survival mode for about an hour with fight requests on and all options set to any.

Got into exactly one ranked match. One single match in an hour.

What the hell is this bullshit? The matchmaking doesn't work. At all.

I'm seriously thinking about trading the game in and I never trade in my games.

yeah the moonsault game works like this: you can punish him before it connects, but if you dont:

on hit: he can combo into knockdown

on block: he's plus, so you should be ready to tech or block

it's really easy to interrupt/beat out moonsault if he cancels into it on block or neutral. it might feel scary to challenge it, but just throw out moves and experiment with stuffing it.

you can also just walk forward to cross-under and punish/throw him. mika can anti air grab it lol

there will be times you won't be able to react (if you're under pressure) to the raw moonsault, but generally, you should try to shut it down completely.

I received the SFV guide yesterday and it's REALLY great. It has so much information on every character.

Been reading it more than playing the game today
