Street Fighter V |OT| No Options to Select

I work at an eb games and I've basically been telling people to buy SFV with caution. I told them what's going in with the game a d they still bought it. SFV is hard to recommend right now, but when you get to its actual core it is unrivaled. It gets two things right that will literally kill a fighting game if done wrong, net code and gameplay (of course). That is what will drive this game in it's dark times right now.

So I found a temporary fix for my issue with Optimus and the game not using my gpu. I can't run it fullscreen, I can't go over 1600 resolution and it runs a bit worse compared to the beta but at least I can play -_-.

Man I tried this on my GT 650m in low spec mode with everything set to low and res at 720, runs in slow motion. Even at 640x480 it runs in slow motion. Is there a problem with the mobile cards or something? I can't imagine it being THAT bad.

There is a probelm with laptop cards, specifically Optimus. The game doesn't use the dedicated gpu.
Found this in the steam forum, there are users reporting about this issue. It worked for me.

I'm beginning to think that Ken might not be as mobile and RTSD as I wanted him to be. I saw the vid about him being more effective at mid-long range but if I'm going to focus more on zoning, why shouldn't I switch to Ryu instead if he's better at that and deal more dmg?

Because when push comes to shove, Ken is a lot more mobile, versatile and can pressure much better than Ryu can. The tradeoff is in raw damage.

It's more about using the mid range as a means to get in and take advantage with his toolset, not so much of just playing a range game.

Which sucks since I've played nothing but Ryu and Ken for my last 12 online matches.

I used to rock character themes in ultra, than one night i run into like 20 Ryu and Akuma's combined and having to hear two shitty remixes of an overrated theme made me go nope, stage themes from now on. Solar Eclipse or Overpass we all good.

Sucks I can't do that here while trying to grind ranking....

Anyone able to point out any recorded streams or videos from post-release of pros doing some practice or exhibition? Not really looking for any specific players or characters, just kind of wanting to see where the top guys are at discovery-wise.

You can also punish things better with the dash.

Hm, I do like the V-Skill but most better players can react fast enough by shutting it down through pokes. And Ken's pokes aren't the best, except for cr.strong. What other tools does he have for pressure?

Okay, advice please.

Coming to this as primarily a Rose player from USF4. I liked her playstyle, more because it focused on her strong normals, some basic, but solid specials and good fundamental play rather than pulling off flashy combos. She also seemed to have a lot of great safe pokes that I could base a lot of my attacks from.

What's the closest equivalent to that kind of play in SF5? I'm flitting between various characters, but nothing is striking me so far. So many unsafe punishes...

Am trying to use Chun-Li as I am trying to learn to play properly but I just can't deal with any Ken player, getting destroyed! ( I also suck quite a lot but other than against Ken am doing ok)

I'm not a Ken player myself but his cr.mp and cr.hp are pretty good. Plus that f.HK is always good. It's generally not a great idea to just use his V-Skill nakedly though, you have to use it for combos or in situations where it's guaranteed to pay off.

Sorry I can't give any more than that. You'll have to ask someone who mains him.

Check the archives at Twitch.tv/leveluplive and Twitch.tv/TeamSp00ky

WNF and NLBC took place last night, showing what some of the top players are doing.

I've been struggling with her too, and especially against Ken and Ryu (but moreso Ken).

Thread title is so perfect. I am still shocked that you cant pick a fighter before a fight (without navigating a bunch of menus to change your 'favorite').

I like not having to go to character select / stage select before EVERY fight. Saves lots of time. I also like that people can't counter pick so easily anymore.

In the long run (unless you pick a different character every single match...which most people don't) this way will save more time overall.

Going into a menu is a lot faster than loading the character/stage select screen interface over and over and over...especially when people like to use the select screen as a bathroom break in SF4.

You're right, I was thinking about it the wrong way. But I still seem can't find to apply pressure that well. Maybe some tick throws or dash throw or V-Skill into throw. It seems like he's more of a reactive character because his pokes aren't that strong.

I don't think Ken is made to be played mid/long range like that video suggests, but I do think he is meant to be played everywhere. He has tools for every range, it's just a matter of using them correctly.

Any consensus as to which characters are the easiest to get good results with? And the hardest/most execution heavy?

I would say Birdie is probably the easiest to win with if you're just looking to mash right now. Laura, R. Mika, and probably FANG seem the most technical at the moment.

Thx for the input, I guess I have to work on his combo's that utilize his V-Skill.

Are there any FANG players in here who can give me some tips?

I've been effective at zoning out the enemies and mixing them up using my traps and my command dash and it's worked out well but any competent player who can just stay on the ground and control their movements effectively will know how to deal with it.

Have no idea what to do, Ryu was ok but Ken is terrifying.

I've fought many kens and didn't have much trouble, they probably weren't every good but what are you having trouble with? He's rushing you down? EX SBK is good on wakeup, fully invincible and pretty safe.

On the other hand, I get destroyed by any ryu... fireball zoning and shoryukens when I try to get in. I don't know how to close the gap :(. Kikoken is too slow and sucks vs his fireball

Yah someone somewhere said he's kind of like Dudley now which I can see. Gotta shimmy in and out and carry them to the corner. Makes fighting people with good normals tough though..

Then let me pick while it searches for a match...let me change my costume and color...

You aren't supposed to poke as your main mode of offense with Ken, it should be your main mode for getting in, i.e. whiff-punishing or counter-poking then closing the distance. His buttons look stubby but I think his hurtboxes don't stick out that much making them better to hang out at a range outside of the buttons your opponent wants to use. His dash is so fast so you can close that distance.

Turn off BGM then go into training mode with Ken and listen to his idle animation. I don't want to know how they recorded that.

The grind of learning the stick is painful.
Kills me when I lose to people I feel like I could beat with a controller.

I will persevere but I will also yell at the TV.

Yeah it is the rushdown and then what to do, he seems to have a lot of options I have to guess at on wakeup, I need to start using that EX super bird kick then. As I say I am very much a newbie at trying to play "properly" so thanks for the tips!

With Ryu I think I have had pretty bad players so far so not sure if I can give any useful tips.

use whatever you feel the most comfortable with. 2014 EVO champ Luffy used a PSOne controller.

keep practising, it will be worth it!

also, to the ryu players here what can you do after doing an air to air j.mp juggle aside from ex srk and maybe critical art?

Not feeling ken, will try cammy.

I love necalli but there's something off with him. Keep whiffing his normals so I end up going ham with HK/HP

cr.HP combos into stomp for his BnB (or just stomp). It seems like most characters don't have a long range poke into combo, which makes sense.

This weekend I'm gonna work real hard on some game plans, training and casual matches. I'm hyped I tell ya, HYPED! I will conquer the world, the universe and EVO!

EX SBK is definately not safe lol. Shouldnt be throwing it out often.
