It's called a guts system, sort of a soft comeback mechanic. Attacks deal less damage under 50% health and it scales down up to 30% health or so

Yeah, this is what I wanted, just was not sure if it was in SFV too.
But: it is not a comeback mechanic. It affects both players equally. (And unlike with Ultras, it does not give you any tools once you "fail" enough).

Ran through some more of the story last night and now that the servers are more stable (for me anyways) I've realized you are supposed to be getting FM and EXP after every single fight. I just figured it dumped it on you at certain moments but since I was getting stuff and wasn't getting DC messages I thought things were going well. Went through my rewards history and definitely missed a few. In short...

MY FIGHT MONEY!!

Then why go for the trophy in the first place? It's just a trophy. At the end of the day it doesn't bother me in offline, I just don't understand it I guess.

just a step closer to Platinum. the real challenge were the Chalice Dungeons anyway. oh man, that was tough as shit.

I got to silver league, time to quit the game. I just want to thank all my fans who have been supporting me since Tuesday, it's been a long road but I made it.

I'll see you guys in SFVI.

What do you guys think would be a good punishment for rage-quitters? No more fight money for a week after 5 disconnects?

Their should be a disconnect streak. Every time someone rage quits, the number of win streaks will be replaced with numbers of rage quits displaying in the negatives. If they rage quit with a winning streak of 50, the streak is then reset back to zero.

Rage quitters would also be matched with other rage quitters

I didnt bother with those till after I spent hours solo Ludwig on NG+++ with shit gems. I pretty much walked the bosses after that. I hit watchdog and thought uh oh, got him on second go I think.

Anyway with offline I just don't understand the desire if you arnt going to get it legit... But it's offline, what ever.

However online trophies have 2 main issues. Either dumb challenges that make people play in a way detrimental to the game (run over 5 people in a quad or something) or sensible trophies like hitting a rank but people will game the system to get there.

There isn't anything wrong with not being able to get a trophy. If everyone can get them all regardless of skill, what's the point?

yea, I think some dudes are just doing the DC thing for this game for trophies. probably doing it before there's a penalty.

I wouldn't mind the crappy shadows if they could just take out those annoying npc's who are just goofing around and never stop moving (which means pretty much 99% of them). Why is Ono so obsessed with hyperactive background characters anyway? I guess in his mind they are very funny, but to me they are just distracting and really take away from the atmosphere of the game, especially the "Lair of the Four Kings" stage.

At least they cut the silly Looney Toons expressions the fighters had while taking damage from Ultras in SFIV, that stuff certainly got old fast in my opinion.

Why would you game a system to gain a trophy.

Trophies are pretty meaningless if you didn't get them legitimately anyway.

You also ruin other people's games to do this.

Personally I'm just leaving it on auto join casual and ranked and will play who ever. If I win or lose I just wanna play lots of games a d have fun.

It's like when people save scum on bloodborne to get all three endings trophies. Like.... You didn't actaully get that legitimately so what does it even mean?

lol at 'save scum'. Yeah, what a scummy thing to do.

People should totally play through the game three times when they don't need to.

Talking of legit, people quitting and stopping me gaining points isn't legit at all, so really it's a moot point what I do now, legitimacy is not present regardless of my own actions.

Man I just have not been able to find my character this game =\

I was a blanka player in sf4 and I miss defensive poking charge characters with a strong anti-air. Down back is my home.

So far I tried Laura for 3 or 4 hours and just wasn't feeling it. Her pokes didn't seem amazing and I wasn't really feeling the command grab mixup. I originally tried picking her up because I liked the v-skill movement options but it didn't end up feeling all that practical at my level and found myself just losing over and over to bad opponents.

I also tried out Necalli and I sort of like his moveset but I'm not really a full rush down kind of person. And I don't like how his moves feel sluggish on startup. Not saying he's slow but like the time it takes for his charge move to come out just bothers me every time.

Next I'm thinking of giving Chun a chance. I've got that pre-order costume at least...

Or maybe I just need Balrog to come out. Balrog save me.

It makes the whole goddamned game look so awful! The graphics aside from this are excellent, it's like they put a shit filter over a beautiful painting.

it's so bizarre lol. IMO the PC "low" setting for shadow detail looks better. Even though the shadows are blocky and low-res, they're at least truly a transparent gradient instead of that weird dithered look.

I fucking love this game. Played a lot of ranked matches yesterday, got a 10 game win streak then lost in a 3 rounder vs the first Vega I've played in this game lol.

I went on a bit of a losing spree and got frustrated but realized I was losing because I was trying to be fancy with Ryu and then just took it back to basics. That's what I love about the game. When I lose I realize it's my own fault.

Ughhhh sitting at work like :/

I mean i got to 2200 LP in a couple hours.

I wouldn't worry about ranking up and would instead focus on training mode and casual matches to get to a certain level if your rank is that important.

Absolutely this. I just hit super silver last night, and I'm not even good. I just know how to not hit buttons, bait the nerves out of risky players and punish. Go into training mode and figure out what you're losing to and correct it. Play casual matches and lobbies to gain more match-up experience and ask as many questions as you can. Then go back to ranked. You can't expect to rank up in the game if you're only as good or worse than the players in your current rank. You have to get better than them.

Also, when it comes to quitters, they seem to dry up at around mid bronze in my experience. I haven't played a single person at 1500+ LP who's dropped.

Everyone else is doing it, how is my e-peen going to get bigger if I don't join in?!

Got no response in the stick thread so I'll ask here.

What's the best way to hold a fight pad? Do you just press the attack buttons with your thumb and if so does that Mae it difficult to use ex moves? Or do you place your fingers on the buttons like you would if you were using a stick, is there enough space for that?

But you are considering joining them in quitting as well just so you get your own little trophy, ruining the experience for a lot of other players out there while doing so.
That's personally where I draw the line: as long as it is offline anyone can play the way they want, cheating if they want to, but once other people are in play, yeah, it does become kinda scummy and impossible to justify. :/

Save scumming is just a term.

Like I said later, with offline trophy's I don't really care, I just don't get why people do it. Whys it mean anything to you if you didn't get it the way it's intended????

And with your last paragraph, the solution to people dc'ing and bring dicks isn't to add to the problem.

The dithered shadows on the PS4 version sure are goddamned hideous, huh? It looks like any light surface has basically been printed with a dot matrix printer. For the love of god patch out some of the crappy NPCs in the background or something, find the horsepower, just do it Capcpom, it makes the whole game look gross.

It really ruins an otherwise beautiful game. The weird thing is I've never even seen this sort of shadow technique. Why anyone would look at it and think it was fine is beyond me. It's criminal given how good the character models are. It ruins them.

there's no best way, imo. whichever you're most comfortable with.

Anyone else getting longer load times on PC?
Depends on what you mean, occasionally I get stuck on the black screen with the autosave icon for a few seconds longer than usual, I assume that's a server-side issue. Any other time it's just waiting for PS4/HDD PC players to load.

What I don't understand about this is... I don't remember this from the beta... I would have noticed right?

I'm definitely noticing it all the time now!

I think they represent him :p

I guess you're right, it is undeniable that a lot of this stuff gets greenlit by him, the general goofyness and music changes made after he took over are very noticeable if you've been following Street Fighter for as long as I have. At least the music is much nicer on this one (I still think the music on SFxT is the some of the worst I've ever heard in any fighting game).

Still, I hope they decide to "calm down" in future Street Fighters, we got so many amazing backgrounds in the old days, I believe that in this case less is more: http://twistedsifter.com/2013/05/animated-gifs-of-fighting-game-backgrounds/

The dithered shadows I can deal with to an extent but the 30 FPS backgrounds, yuck!

Hope both get patched. Cause the game is really good looking otherwise (except the backgrounds themselves in certain stages).

Yep, that's what I meant. Guess it's just the servers. Got very nervous after beating Survivor on Normal.

Kanzuki estate during the day time is some great stuff. Hope they add it as an unlockable when the store is added.

Yeah, I've been complaining about this since the last few betas and at best people were like "yeah, it's been like that since day 1 and they probably won't fix it".

Shame this actually came true as I couldn't believe my eyes and ears at first that they would put so much time and effort in this game's visuals (the character models especially) as well as its marketing for PS4 to then release this particular version with such an obvious graphical shortcoming that actually makes the characters look worse.

Sigh...

Everyone else is doing it, how is my e-peen going to get bigger if I don't join in?!

Nothing to do with e-peen lol. I like collecting platinum trophies and don't care if anyone else sees them or not.

If 2 players try to grip each other for throwing at the same time, what determines who will make it? Best spammer? Character speed? Timing?

In a Gief mirror match we both tried to EX air command grab at same time, we just bounced back from eachother slightly with no damage, both an EX bar missing.

Sorry to say, but yeah, it's been there at least in the last two betas - I brought it up then as well.

Me too, though the worrying bit is that neither their roadmap nor that recent list of problem fixes mentions either.

You'd think that Sony would be on top of the dithering problem as well (in terms of them bugging Capcom about a fix) since its making their exclusive version look worse (especially coming after a generation of IV that also looked and played worse on PS3...)

Not sure if this has been asked before but when trying to unlock a characters outfits, if you go for a higher tier like say hell or hard does it unlock the other lower tiers or do you have to complete each.

Well yeah, that's why I called it a soft comeback mechanic. It's mostly designed to avoid instant KOs off a good read or two.

I have always played with standard controllers and just used my thumb on the 4 face buttons. I find it pretty easy to press two buttons at the same time with it. It's not hard to do all three if like me you use shoulder buttons as well. Or you can set shoulders/triggers to all three as well.

I imagine this transfers to fight pads as well.

However I imagine there are people doing both.

The dpad is the most important to me and the xbone controller I use on PC has a really damn good one.
