[QUOTE="God's Beard!";195969554]You can cancel normal moves into a command grab to beat parries:

Something is wrong about that video. His health goes down before the normal hit which suggests he command throws, Ryu gets up and then parties his normal.....

I probably should buy an arcade stick if I want to get better because I just can't seem to land the combos with the DS4.

Also I have no idea how to use V Trigger, I know how to activate it but I don't know the combos.

You play Rashid right?

You can use it in combos like

Walljump crossup mk, st.mp, cr.mk, xx vtrigger, critical art

380 damage off from a nice hit confirm, through an entirely safe blockstring (st.mp is entirely safe on guard, in fact, you're +3 on guard) off of an ambiguous walljump crossup.

It also creates a natural frametrap, if they press even a 3 frame jab after blocked st.mp, then they will get hit by the MK and you can put that into spinning mixer for 100 damage. The only option they have in this scenario is to use an invincible attack like a DP, but the window to do so is very brief and offers huge risk.

Outside of being a combo extender it's really useful in mixups. Get them in the corner, V trigger, and do either empty jump cr.lk, cross up with mk, or go for a throw right before they get hit by the hurricane. If you go for a backthrow they're forced to block the hurricane on wakeup and you can use this as a sort of 'hard knockdown' where they're locked in place, giving you momentum (go for another throw, mixup, blockstring frametrap or whatever).

I actually like Favourite fighter, saves a bunch of time but it should have its own selection box in the main screen not require a few clicks to get there.

I'm so salty tonight with Chun Li, I've had several matches where I feel like I know my character better yet I still get a beat down. Whenever I'm trading blows with opponents they always get the life lead, and I have no idea what quick/fast normals I can throw out to make distance or cancel them out aside from jabs. I know I can easily give up and go back to Ryu to get my win count back up, or pick other characters like Necalli or Birdie which sound easier to pick up. I just don't want to lose my progress I made in learning her so far...

I've been rocking Chun Li for a while since Ryu wasn't working out for me. I've always played better with fast characters, it's just my style.

There's some helpful videos on YT if you search for Chun Li combos. You can dish out big damage in quick fashion with VTrigger and the fire leg kicks.

I feel like Ryu's perry is way too hard to pull off to get any value out of it. I forget it's even there. I don't think I've seen a Ryu use it once and I've played a thousand of them. In the beta I saw one guy use it really well I guess. Not sure there's anything capcom can do about it anyway.

edit: I had 14 wins in a row before I lost and play Ryu :O But I didn't rage quit when I lost.

I notice a lot of Ryu's (myself included at first) try to parry EVERYTHING...don't do that. Parry things every once and while . If a good player notices you trying to parry everything they will throw off your timing and since it can be crush countered that's no good...It's a mind fuck tool in my opinion..when people start doing really obvious shit . It can condition players to stop hitting buttons randomly and give an approach or get them to waste resources.

Watch what I do to my friend here at the end of round 2 .It conditioned him to the point where he used his super at the beginning of round 3 ...it's such a useful tool ...

Is Karin's qcb.p move punishable if she doesn't do a follow up?

Her hard punch version is only -2 on block I believe, so that one isn't punishable if you immediately block afterward. The others are punishable I believe.

Edit: or maybe they're all punishable?

Edit edit: I was wrong, the heavy is -4 on block.

Got my first DC'er against a really scrubby Laura. So infuriating, ugh, especially since I've spent all my evening digging myself out of an LP hole of losses and every win has been hard earned.

Replay what ever you were playing and didn't get the money for, and you will get it. The server keep track of what you finished while online, even if you played the entire story mode offline, and get a 100% completion, you can play it again online and you will get paid for it. :)
Replayed it twice with no luck...

Now that I've been able to play a bit: this game is so fast! I'm going to have to get used to priority too. This is definitely not SF4. It's exciting.

I feel like I should train with Ken a bit to get used to the new system, but I'm really liking Rashid.

Yeah, all of them are.

LP -6
MP -5
HP -4

So ya.

Embrace the gimmicks

Sweet thanks guys. I wait for the follow up but I need to learn to punish the regular one.

so i only played half the story stuff just to get some FM cuz i'm a bit busy today with other stuff and the game feels way different. gonna take some getting used to. i also need to properly look up basic guides online and do some training. need to get a handle on the supers and this V-skill stuff.

Do you use it successfully :p ? If so, any tips?

You have to know what moves to use it on, because it has recovery but if used right it allows you some massive rewards. Like here Fourwude parries the scissor kicks, and it allows him to get a full punish on Bison. Normally if you just block it, you get a jab punish, or maybe even less depending on spacing but the parry makes it really scary for Bison to just throw it out. You can also do things like parry the flip kick from Nash and make him feel the pain.

Omg wow. Straight up CHOKED on fight #27 against Zangief first time through challenge. Can't believe I let that shit happen.

Incredible game, though.

Any interesting changes for Zangief in this installment? All I can see is his air throw, maybe the V-skill cyclone thing. I know he could combo into pile drivers in one of the earlier versions of the game, but it seems like that's gone.

His half circle, kick throw doesn't have armor even with EX. Makes me sad.

Thanks for the encouragement, I really do want to get better with her! I feel like I've learned some good combos and tricks with her in training mode that are just never translating over to my matches. I just can't come to grips with the low health, and how if I don't maximize each combo opportunity then my damage output is poor. Her V-Skill is also really fun to use in training, and I came up with a lot of different applications of it, but my actual success rate with it is low. Guess I should take a break from matchmaking for now, I've had enough stress from losing close matches.

I was just on a four game win streak when a laggy nash appears teleporting everywhere (more than usual lol) :(
The teleporting lag really sucks, kinda makes me not want to play it at times and play something else :(
I hope this isnt a things to come for the netcode in fighting games, this really isnt the right way to go about it.

EX running grab does have armor
Does it? Hmm. Ryu shit me out of it several times, maybe they were quick jabs. Dunno why Zangief seems so appealing to me in this installment, never really played him before. Just not vibing with the newbies yet I suppose.

I found some combo videos online and I am following their inputs and I can't seem to pull them off as a combo like the video can. Are those linked hits? How do I know when to press the next command?

And can you cancel off of light attacks? How!? that is crazy fast.

I'm so frustrated. I'm so bad and don't feel I'm getting any better.

.

Should show us the video/combo you're trying to do.

Well I made it to 2000 LP. What a damn grind it was going from 1500 to 2000 tho. I still feel like a scrub when I get decimated. It still happens often haha.

Only 1 hit of armor tho

What's the go to follow up to Ryu's f.MP? I just do the overhead and then me and the opponent have an awkward staring contest.

You're even on hit, so it depends on your opponent. Ryu's fastest normal is his st. jab which is 3f. Some characters like Birdie don't have a 3f attack so you can beat them to the punch unless they use a invincible move. When you face other characters with a 3f attack, it's pretty much who gets out their button as soon as possible, just block to avoid that, or DP if you think your opponent will challenge you after eating a overhead.

I know the feel, it feels sometimes I could literally just play ryu , mash DP and deal more damage quickly than her =/

I actually got so salty today I was about to quit her and play Ryu. Then I went into training and realized how slow he his and how his buttons are way crappy compared to chun... lol

What video are you watching? What char?

Focus on a few bnbs. Use the most damaging one or the safest one depends on the ocasion.

As for links, practice each link separately. Try it 20 times and then go to the next one
