I wouldn't say Fry's went smoothly. I was in one Thursday and they said they had 6 copies in the back. I put an order in for in-store pickup at 12:00, then they proceed to cancel it before opening. I'm sure I wasn't the only one too because they went out of stock around 12:03.

It technicaly went as "smoothly" as it could because they got the lowest allotment. They weren't even expecting any but were notified of it a week ago.

A manager over Reddit kept updating allocations and even warned that store pickup wouldn't be fulfilled.

The thing with Best Buy and Amazon was that for online distribution they got them days ago. Started shipping some. All this were preorders from November and this weren't some random boxes with the game on it. Someone managed the distribution badly to the point it resulted on at least 1k units on each to be put on sale right the day of release.

If it was about them not receiving enough, they would've notified of a delay earlier and additional copies weren't going to end on sale.

But both started notifying of delays after people complained the day of release and in both cases they claim they don't know what happened.
 
No doubt Amazon and Best Buy blew it in that regard. I imagine not knowing what's going on was the line from the CS reps, but I doubt that's actually the case for the people involved.

My guess for the whole situation is that Nintendo didn't ship out enough copies to cover their original allotments, and shipped them close to the deadline to have them ready for release. The next shipment will go out "soon," and Nintendo was able to increase allotments. Those newly available units and some preorders were backordered, but Best Buy and Amazon both took the opportunity to sell through those additional units while demand was frothing. They still treated them as preorders, lumped them in with the others, and didn't give anyone priority for the copies they had available, which was why some orders from Thursday night are going through before preorders from November.

Sloppy by all parties.
 
I sold a copy of the SE to someone today with a dinged up corner (our last copy) and saw it on craigslist (checking out of curiosity) less than an hour later for $200. C'mon guy.

Got my copy at GameStop and the salesperson immediately grabbed my keychains without me asking for them. Also, my box had sealing stickers on both ends, which my XCX LE from Best Buy did not.

Is there any chance I might receive this by tomorrow considering it just shipped out today? UPS tracking updated that it's in a city within 20 miles from me.

Depends on the shipping, maybe? I've never had a Best Buy order get delivered on Saturday. My preorders for Nintendo Friday releases typically don't make it on release day, they usually get in town on Friday but too late to be delivered, then they sit there all weekend and get delivered Monday.

I've had some Amazon orders show up on Saturday, and one on Sunday while I had a Prime trial going.

mine says "Your order is being prepared" which is not the same as preparing for shipping but kinda similar? I got the ebay deal last nite and elected ship to store.

Never played an FE game before. Was looking forward to grabbing the special edition bit Nintendo shipped 10 copies so oh well. Will maybe jump in next game

If you just want to jump in standard edition would suffice. SE is just for hard core fans, you just get a cheap cloth case and small art book which would do nothing for you if you not into the series.

Why would you want to jump in on a game you never played and paid $80.00. Better yet grab Awakening used or something and see if its a type of game you will enjoy. Unless of course you just want send Nintendo message which I am pretty sure they don't really care. This is how most of their limited edition stuffs have been.

I took advantage of the free gaming time I set aside for it and finally started Fatal Frame 4.

maaaaan this game is crazy!!!!

better than Fire Emblem! lol.

The SE was mostly made for the core fans of the series. If you are new to the series and wanted to try this game out then get Birthright. If you want more, download Revelations in March.

We'll definitely get the prime discount, but I won't ask for it until the item gets shipped (just to make sure nothing gets confused or accidentially deleted; who knows) For now I'm happy that the whole stress worked out eventually :)

Thanks to whomever figured out the shipping trick for BB. Got mine shipped out and surprised to find the $20 GC for the hell of it as a bonus.
 
Woke up, checked my tracking info and Huzzah it should arrive today after all. The tracking info didn't update for 23 hours I really thought the amazon rep was right and it was lost.

Yep. I ended up buying Conquest digitally since I will have no time to play next week.
 
So I spent all day playing a digital copy of Fire Emblem, as I assumed I'd never get the SE since it had been delayed indefinitely by Amazon at the last second. Before going to bed, I open up my email and there's one saying it's been shipped and will arrive Sunday.

This whole thing has been weird as fuck.
 
Picked mine up from GameStop yesterday no problem (though the guy asked if i wanted my keychain, duh dude gimmie my shit!). Guess im kinda glad i missed the best buy pre-order, would have been nice to save some money with gcu but i guess the keychains plus the fact that i got my game with out hassle makes up for it.
 
Gamestop shipped my copy in this cardboard envelope that offered no protection. The box has dents all over it, but the contents inside were fine. Should I try emailing Gamestop's customer service a picture of it?

Eh I dont know what GS's customer service can do for you. Maybe offer some coupons or discounts is the best thing I can think of.
 
Holy shit, Amazon shipped my copy. And seemingly put overnight shipping on it because it's coming today by 8 PM. I'm honestly shocked. I figured I'd wait a few weeks and then just get a cancellation email.

I take back everything I said about you, Amazon.
 
Picked up my copy via store-pickup at Best Buy. No hassles, except it had that huge Best Buy sticker on it.

Luckily it comes off really easy - so no big deal.

Best Buy clearly doesn't know what's going on. The limited information they have provided has been incorrect.

This is one of my favorite franchises and if this does end up cancelled I will have to pick a copy up on the secondary market. Extremely frustrated with Best Buy and they need to fix this now and provide an update.
 
Just called a rep who said they just got an alert today that it would definitely ship today. Basically just repeating the guy who said it would definitely ship yesterday. The rep said that Best Buy is aware of the problem and that everything had been worked out and that everyone should get shipping confirmation today. Also said that the $20 emails are still being sent out.
 
Last activity was it left Illinois at around 1 PM their time. No update since, so my package is in the ether somewhere. And I don't think UPS updates that shit on weekends.

Goddammit.
