little combo potential in general, worst hit priority, awful superart, long recovery times, every move is extremely slow and telegraphed, low damage potential

Good pokes, can be played at multiple ranges, decent damage and hp. He's always been the cornerstone of balanced play and that doesn't seem to change in SFV.

I dunno man. I was watching damdai replays. Seems like Ryu could still be competitive in the right hands. He hits hard.

My first time playing a fighting game and I'm fucking loving it. I'm still working on the very basic stuff but when I pull off a few moves the way I want to in a match it's so damn rewarding. I've never felt such a strong desire to learn and get better.

Not new to fighting games but otherwise I fully agree. I just hope the game can get past the unnecessarily low review scores from some outlets and attract more people like yourself. Street Fighter and fighting games in general are rewarding to play in ways that few other genres can match. The more new recruits the better!

Also, if anyone wants to spar with my Laura (intermediate and UK based) feel free to add me. CFN: Dangeresque. On most nights of the week.

if you have a skill advantage any fighter can win, thats not what balance is. equal skill players and ryu is going to lose the vast majority

thats about it

My Ryu is starting to get wrecked by some of the more varied characters. Nash, Bison, and Karin are rocking my world now that I'm ~1000 LP. Any tips?

After a week of playing the PC version, today I went to the store and they had a PS4 running the demo. Wow @ that dithering effect that people were mentioning. Is that a PS4 thing? Because I remember people also complaining about that when Witcher 3 came out. I hope they can fix it.

Maybe my eyes need checking but I don't notice this. Viewing distance a factor? The way people talk about it make it seem like kof14.

It's week one. I highly doubt Ryu players are going to suffer at all, especially if it's just things like "their superarts are bad" (his is easily comboable, so unless you are doing it fullscreen, I don't know what you want).

Don't throw out fireballs for Nash. Push him into the corner with tatsus and command normals (I seriously forgot the name, it's not command normals, how terrible of me). Then keep him there. If you stay in his face, he can't grab those fireballs. DP on reaction when he teleports. Oh, and block or react to his Jaguar kick. Don't let that tempo fool you, make a nash crack and he doesn't have many answers to get out of things besides a teleport and v reversal.

I haven't played or learned much about Bison yet, so I can't help much with that. I played maybe two matches against them, and really it was a matter of keeping them out of the skies and throwing them when they try to charge.

Karin has a lot of mixups, but some jabs can stuff players who aren't careful with her moves. I haven't played many yet.

In general, if you can get some parries in for early vtrigger, do it. Take them to stun then take them to flavor town.

What does Mika have like that? I've tried spamming her forward H.p, her M.k, and her H.k, but higher level AI are not fooled by this stuff, so matches usually need to be played more legitimately. They'll jump with ease when going for a command grab, too.
Honestly you just kind of have to know what makes the computer tick. I've always been fond of figuring out the computer in fighting games since I love chasing high scores. Going through entire games and getting double perfects is what I end up striving for. Eventually I'm hoping to do hell mode and double down the entire way through.

Anyway, what i've noticed about the computer in this game is that it's very weak to frame traps, crossups, and neutral jump meaties. This actually goes for most Capcom fighters. So once you realize that and you have a timing and rhythm down, you can just keep the computer in the same situation for the entire round. With Mika I would get some sort of knockdown and then just neutral jump fp fp xx fp peach and repeat the process.

What you want to notice though is how individual characters respond to jumping and that's a big part of what makes this work. Characters like Bison, Chun, Dhalsim or anyone that relies on a normal to anti air will get destroyed by this tactic very easily without much worry about timing. If the computer detects that you're in a jumping state then it WILL try to AA you, but since those characters do it with normals they will get hit during their startup every single time they try it. If they happen to block I will sometimes just finish the combo because they will usually try to AA in between the st.fp and the fp peach.

I have a theory about survival mode.
Did anyone play against the CPU in the last beta? On level 5 it was pretty bad, it started getting "good" at level 6. Now in the final version level 5 is much better, I think they moved it up pretty much 1 level. Maybe they forgot about that in survival mode and that's why the CPU becomes such a dick later on.

Also, I listen to anything Mike "50 win streak with Birdie" Ross has to say.

Looks like I'm stuck with Fang. Decided to give other characters a go, since I'm too lazy to learn how to properly input Karin's launcher. Tried Fang next and now I can't play anything else. I'm not a fan of charge characters, but I just can't say no to that guy.

Also quitters not getting punished is just silly. Had a Chun quit, only to get rematched instantly aaaand he quit again. And least show you learned something from your defeat!

Also 5 days and that Birdie dude is still MIA.

Got disconnected from an opponent three times, before the match even started. And yet Capcom's like 'Connection issues resolved', lmao.

so your saying they didnt adjust difficulty settings for survival properly? considering that this game feels unfinished, that is actually believable

yes it has a singular use as part of basically 1 combo

Yeah, one whole combo.

Sure.

So if I win and it fails to send match results, does that mean the other guy is fucking around or is that a genuine failure of the network?
