Man Lauras just have incredible reads on me. Every time I expect a grab I get kneed in the face. It might be time for desperado dps.

Ryu isn't the best, but he isn't bad either. I've only been playing him and though he definitely has some issues and struggles in some match ups, I think he's a pretty solid character that will sit somewhere in the middle for this initial version of SFV.

30 min? The same duration when you search a match.

Honestly you just kind of have to know what makes the computer tick. I've always been fond of figuring out the computer in fighting games since I love chasing high scores. Going through entire games and getting double perfects is what I end up striving for. Eventually I'm hoping to do hell mode and double down the entire way through.

Anyway, what i've noticed about the computer in this game is that it's very weak to frame traps, crossups, and neutral jump meaties. This actually goes for most Capcom fighters. So once you realize that and you have a timing and rhythm down, you can just keep the computer in the same situation for the entire round. With Mika I would get some sort of knockdown and then just neutral jump fp fp xx fp peach and repeat the process.

What you want to notice though is how individual characters respond to jumping and that's a big part of what makes this work. Characters like Bison, Chun, Dhalsim or anyone that relies on a normal to anti air will get destroyed by this tactic very easily without much worry about timing. If the computer detects that you're in a jumping state then it WILL try to AA you, but since those characters do it with normals they will get hit during their startup every single time they try it. If they happen to block I will sometimes just finish the combo because they will usually try to AA in between the st.fp and the fp peach.

Thanks for the tips. Neutral jump fierce punch has been pretty much my go-to, but sometimes they block and then everything goes to hell. Farthest I've gone has been 40.

Huh, the neutral jump thing is what I was using. What do you do against characters that anti air with specials?

so your saying they didnt adjust difficulty settings for survival properly? considering that this game feels unfinished, that is actually believable

I'd believe this too. Since matches 1-25 on normal rarely even have the A.I blocking, and then you get to the last 5 matches and they are bordering on input reading.

I am playing a SF2 cabinet that is insane. Guile can do Sonic Booms in the air. Projectiles like Hadoukens can move so slow that you can just walk in them. Shit is crazy. Anyone know what this could possibly be?

It's a standard SF2 World Warrior cabinet. The logo is not rainbow so I don't think it's Rainbow Edition.

That's actually for the best. That statue is HUGE. It also makes it less prone to breaking in transit.

Yeah, and you also don't have to worry a big deal about like paint jobs. Flesh colored body parts and attire colored molds together instead of having like a full white/grey base and getting painted over. They don't have the quality control for stuff like that.

Hey GAF, we added a Fighting Game Newbie channel for people learning the genre, wanting to learn, and looking for sparring partners or mentors; quote to reveal the link:

I don't think I ever played a Rainbow cab that actually said it was a rainbow cab.

There were several flavors of rainbow-like hacks out there back in the day

So i got a trial for a vpn service that gives you your own ip address. With that its finding games within a minute or two searching (connection quality 5 only). So yeah the problems are 100% the game not doing upnp port forwarding (either failing/buggy or not even trying)

Saying he struggles during some of his matchups seems more dependent on how the player is playing him and how the other person is playing their character. That isn't to say he WON'T struggle at all, but a Ryu who's focused on going in with stun is going play different than a Ryu who's focused on zoning, or a Ryu who's focused on countering everything all day. Obviously there aren't infinite ways to play every character here, but it feels a lot more open than, say, SF4, where you have a definite way of playing a character and therefore the matchups went one way (unless someone had new tech).

Like, my friend is a zoner Ryu, but he gets whooped by my Nash because I can grab his fireballs all day and hit the trigger. That isn't to say he can't just make his pacing different and go in more, but people should learn to switch up styles when they play for better results, I think. That's probably why I'm a big advocate of people playing other characters besides just one.

GGs, gotta find that anti Sim tech and stop giving myself up for free.
I was free to your throws but then the throw setup kinda became obvious. You could definitely add some more tick throws to your game after jab.
I don't know if its my old man reactions or what, but I can't use jab as aa against jump ins for some reason, while F. Champ can do teleport into fierce on the spot. :/

Here we go again...

I think this is the worst multiplayer launch I've come across, even Square Enix get the shit sorted quicker.

Time it like a safe jump. Most times I just empty jump and then I block their srk or whatever and punish.

Birdie is the trickiest son of a bitch out of all of them though. He gives me the most trouble. The bastard just blocks everything and he AA's with jumping roundhouse for fucks sake. FOLLOW THE RULES YOU SHITBIRD! It seems like every Capcom game has one character that is programmed different, it's really weird. Well I guess a lot of fighters are like that but I notice it is Capcom fighters more. Why does Sagat not fall for crossups in ST? Why does Akuma fight like a fucking human opponent with perfect reads in 3rd Strike? Why could you just sweep Johnny Cage and Sonya to death in the original MK? No idea.

I hateeeee facing zangief so muuuuch. IT's like you know literally everything they're going to do and when but you still fall into the traps.
I haven't lost to one yet. I haven't faced anything higher than a super bronze though.

Zone, poke, occasionally take a chance and jump in for a quick combo. Run, run, run.

I bet Zangief players hate me. I'm coming for you Snake Eyes!

Someone who's 1000-2000 LP add me. I'm trying to learn Sim without feeling the pressure of fighting strangers. Not new to fighting games but SFV isn't clicking for me yet.

PSN same as here1
Dude. I saw your replays on the leaderboard and you were beast. Weren't you in the top 20 in the world? And I think you were using Dhalsim. "Learning Dhalism" lol ;)

Starting to feel like Nash might be a pretty bad match-up for Karin. He can keep her out pretty easily, but can also go in well. Sometimes I feel like he completely shuts me down.

Does anyone want to play in a lounge? My bison is semi-decent.
Where are you from?

Yeah I was noticing that my day one neutral jump shenanigans don't play in long sets, just gotta hit the lab and figure out better stuff to add to my game.

ugh, baiting the cpu

thanks for this, hopefully it works

let us know when you get your colors. i definitely need the light of hope lol

Played a long set against a friend, my Nash vs his Necalli. We kept going back and forth, sometimes I totally dominated the match, but others he would destroy me completely. I'll post a couple of matches as soon as they're uploaded. Necalli's normals are really good, I need to keep playing with my friend so I can try to figure out a better strategy.
