Look at that, I guessed it right.
Expensive but you get a better product than Oculus with 2 controllers and lighthouse.

I was thinking the same. They're clearly getting their results in a very different manner here.
Also, has there been any updates about the screen dooring people were complaining about in the Vive beta hardware?
how does the resolution compare to the OR? is 2160x1200 @ 90 good/bad/comparable?
oh i see. I plan on using my $1,000 headphones and external DAC regardless of included options so I guess either will give me the same audio experience. maybe. I guess we'll see. lol
both will be great headsets. Even hearing the Vive not being as comfortable and being heavier than OR, it'll still be great. And Vive is a superset of OR - it'll play all OR 'sitting down using a controller' games, as well as standing/motion controlled ones - whereas the reverse won't be true of OR for at least 6 months.
I really hope HTC do tours to demo the Vive - I'd travel a decent distance to try one out. I'm mainly curious how much more presence inducing it is when you're standing with perfectly tracked hand controllers.

People keep saying this, but all I hear is "because Valve". What technically makes this product better than the Rift? Just the whole room walking thing?

Headset I believe.
I think the PSVR is the only headset which also outputs to a display.
Indeed, where are....the games? What software is there for this to justify buying it?

What were people expecting the more advanced VR set to cost?
Why is it that only now they're "out"?
Good price. The only thing that scares me about the Vive is the future of HTC. Nothing about HTC looks like it's in good shape right now.

I see vr is essentially a console war of its own. Cut the elite crap there are plenty of level headed well informed people in this thread who knew about these headsets but are disappointed it's so high.It was indeed expected, it didn't take much effort to get to something that has been a consensus conclusion for a long time. If anything, people should be positively surprised since many people have been guessing more than 799.
So there's most likely no other possible explanation for the "lol"s other that people are simply cheering for a different.."camp".
RPS' clickbait article almost got me

This thread is hilarious. People who know nothing about VR freaking out about how high it is, and people who have actual knowledge suprised by how low.
Can't wait for these things to come out. With the vive being at $800, it's making be ponder my Rift preorder.
I have some good cans myself too, so I hope so too. But in worst case scenario the Oculus SDK + Rift headphones combination is integral in bringing a good binaural audio experience, as that's what developers will use. For me that would be more important than the most accurate sound reproduction on hardware level.
But if they can just output the same sound to an external DAC, that's good and I can use my Sennheisers.
Save us, Apple.
Save us, Konami.

A fuckload of developers had no issues developing VR experiences until now, and they will continue to have no issues continuing to do só.. The enthusiast market comes with a high software attach rate, and VR has no need for dumbed down AAA experiência by EA or Ubisoft that dont actual advantage of VRThe problem is not the price in itself, it's we just lost any hope PC VR gains any traction.
Who cares if a few thousands enthousiasts buy a Vive ? There's no way any dev (outside of indies / mini-games) makes any money with that installed base. So there won't be any big game.
Basically we'll have to wait a few more years for VR unless PSVR is more affordable (which should be the case).

The way the update is written means that HTC retracted the statement that the USD price and EUR price are the same. The 800 euros comment has been retracted from those german websites:
