Im loving the character videos, its exactly the way they should teach you how to play the game in, well, THE GAME.

Like, shit like this is what actually helps a new player know what the fuck they should do

Theres several ways to teach a player about this stuff; Have an overlay in practice mode, particular zoning challenges in challenge mode, have a tutoring mechanism. if Capcom was actually serious about teaching people how to play SF they would go to these lengths, not the "press right to move right!" bullshit

But they aren't and never will be. We couldn't even get hit/hurt box indicators in the versions of Marvel 3 that actually sold.

At the end of the day, the community is going to do a far better job showing people how to play than Capcom ever will, which leads them to not even try. That's a little frustrating, but it is what it is. Never rely on Capcom for extra.

hitboxes are so weird in this game. hard to judge attack ranges sometimes because it looks like you are hitting the other character but it just whiffs on attacks.

limbs just seem artificially short.

There's always the other extreme:

Anyone want to play a quick first to 5 before I head out? CFN: Sixfortyfive (Eastern USA)

Really excited to return to SF V once my Hori RAP4 arrives today...Tried at launch with a controller and just can't do it...playing Alpha/2/3/4 with a stick has made this impossible. I look forward to relearning. I think I'll try Karin first and I want to learn a charge character like Bison. This games variation of him is so damn complete imo. I haven't played a charge character since Urien in 2nd assault so it'll be tough going. Although once Alex hits I will make him my main...Hope to see u guys out there soon!

my HRAP4 arrives today too. *hi5*

Man, that would be great.

Lessons for things like anti-air would be so useful instead of trying to set those kinds of things up in Training Mode.

They really should have a 'school of hard knocks' where people graduate knowing some of the basic real match requirements and maybe a basic combo or two for their character.

This should be in the game lol

A friend's trying to find my matches. Are ranked, casual, AND local vs matches just out there for the public?

After attending a handful of tournaments over the weekend, the legacy controller situation sucks. Have to return to main menu, people were rebooting the console to switch back, controller batteries died, controllers timed out when the next match was on, etc.

In actuality, I don't think it's all that necessary to go to ridiculous lengths in tutorials. For one, how bout actually just figuring some shit out on ya own, lol. Everything doesn't need to be broken down to an Nth degree just for some folks to get an understanding of things. Live practice is the best teacher anyway. At the end of the day, it's just a game. It's not par the course for a job, EVEN if one was to get a job in the game industry.

As a Ryu player what should I be trying to do against Necalli? His normals eat me alive up close and he can just berserker barrage through fireballs.

What happens if you vary your fireball timing? He can't do his anti-fireball move on reaction can he? If not, you should be able to randomize your timing to try and catch him doing it unsafely and punish.

if you guys get the new model with the hayabusa buttons, would love to hear your impressions :)

U should see Sim's two far reaching normals...On the latest ep of Excellent adv the foot part was engulfing the other fighters forward leg and wiffing...it looks strange.

Fake some fireballs when he's holding down-back or walking backwards. Throw real ones when he walks forward. The lunge is a charge move.

st.mk is a good button at max range vs Necalli. Make sure your anti-air game is on point. V-reversal is important if you're cornered.

I'll have to find some good matches to show you. Claw is great in this game they did a really good job on updating him and making him interesting. Still kind of sad they didn't give him back scarlet terror or his flips.

Edit: Here is a claw mirror match with PR Balrog. Pretty decent match that is mostly claw on until it gets knocked off in the rounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7OO9UOgB94

What a comeback that final round! God damn. I didn't even know you can do the claw into his swipe into super. God like!

Isn't there supposed to be a better set of tutorials coming in a patch? Make them like this. Make them better than this, for christ's sake capcom, actually look like you know how your own game works for once.

It isn't about going to "ridiculous lengths". It's about giving the player a route between playing against AI and playing online. It doesn't need to be nearly as 'sink or swim' as it is.

And I don't understand your last sentence.

He has to charge for Disc's Guidance, but it is the shortest charge in the game (~35 frames or something). Mainly you need to watch for when he is moving forward, that will be your cue that you can throw a fireball assuming you have the spacing to do so. Also be careful if he has VT because the flash time is enough to both charge or just punish a fireball with CA if he isn't full-screen.

My guess here would be you want to play right outside your cr.MK range where you can out-footsie him and fireballs are harder to react to when he tries to dance into his normal range. At that distance you're mostly only concerned with two of his buttons (st.HK and cr.HK) and you're more likely to pressure him to waste EX meter to EX Valiant (stomp) his way closer than that. Beyond that I think it's just being on point with your punishes and controlling that space like usual.

I 100% disagree with you.

The more knowledge you can feed a player the better. If it's all available there in game instead of forcing them to read forums and watch videos, then that is an amazing feature of a game. Sadly no fighter does this, and we are all set to go to the net to research tech.

Also, are you new to fighters? They may as well be a job to get good at one. The amount of time and practeeeeec it takes is insane.

Plus, if you are hella good it can pay bucks. Ask the dudes who placed a lot in USF4 last year at events and Capcom Pro Tour. Your 9-5 probably isn't netting you Daigo money. :P

yeah i main sim...so i know all about that -_-

noticed it with nash's low forward too. its like you have to hit almost near the center of the other character for the hit to register.

I just found some alternate input/shortcut motion for supers/critical arts.

QCFx2 motion critical arts can be done by tapping d, f, d, f + button (Mortal Kombat style).

This shortcut method can make you accidentally go into a CA sometimes especially if you are doing a DP motion from a crouch.

Welcome to Street Fighter since 4.

Peeps have known about this for about 7 years now. :P

YES I FINALLY GOT A FUCKING WIN TODAY 1-20!!!!

Ditched Cammy, just wasn't working anymore. Feeling like I have more options with Rashid. Might even make it into silver when I get him down whereas with Cammy, I was always playing on the counter.

Also, that battle confirm option mentioned earlier that shows you the connection is a godsend. I'm filtered on 5 only but 1's keep creeping in.... No wonder the connection is bad sometimes.

Recently we've had the godlike Skullgirls tutorial, Xrd's, and KI's is supposed to be decent as well iirc... After that I was pretty hype for Capcom taking it to the next level, with the game being online-focused and all you'd think they'd want to ease in new players gently - but instead we got nothing but a big "fuck you"

God this absurdly rushed launch is gonna bite them in the ass in so many ways it's not even funny

lol, jebus.

Just had a particularly frustrating losing streak.

I love R Mika so goddamn much but I'll be very surprised if she isn't in the bottom tier of characters. Her anti-air is mediocre, she lacks invincible wakeup options (even EX), lots of low prio moves, no range and average mobility. Everything comes down to how good you are at mindgames and footsies, because you HAVE to get in close (or bait the enemy into coming close). I could be totally wrong because I'm a scrub, but this is my feeling atm.

There is no universe in which XRD's tutorial isn't utter shit. What a horrible tutorial.

I suppose it's good if you completely want to turn off someone from playing your game.

Wow, the game just booted me from connection (error 10007 or something) as I was getting beat up in round 1 by a Karin. Really must have made it look like a rage quit on the opposite end. This is ridiculous.

Except these are made by Capcom themselves.

Part of me wants this game to do well, the other wants to see Capcom/Sony crush countered into oblivion

Really hope the former. No other fighting game recently has grabbed me by the sack like that in a while. Only other one that could do it would probably be KoF, but I don't have too much faith with what I've seen so far (despite getting my NeoGeo USB stick today! Gonna have to get some KoF 99 in soon)

I'd love to be wrong! To be clear I'm not saying you can't play a good Mika, I just feel like she's pretty limited compared to most characters. What's your ID? I'm Noray87 (anyone can feel free to add me for Lounge matches)

If that's the case, that's the big one. Everyone is fucking aggressive on wakeup and it can make it really difficult to recover.

The best I can do is EX peach, which has 1 hit of armor, but it doesn't even beat a normal grab. It has slow startup. I tend to either block or jab on wakeup because idk what else to do. Sometimes I get frisky and go for her vortex command grab but it's super risky.

Try watching the archive for Daigo's stream from this weekened.

Hameko owned the lot of them with his Mika, Fuudo did really well with her too.

Stopped some background applications with task-manager and it seems to run perfectly smooth
for
now. Yay.
Now on to 1000 LP again!

Why do so many people with over 2k LP have the absolute worst fucking connections ever dude was all over the screen from one moment to the next I couldn't even tell what was going on. How do you play like that?

I feel like this for Gief minus the anti-air, priority range points but a lot more to the lack of mobility points lol

But this is the life I chose
