God damn Giefs grab attacks take so much damage.

It's such a stressful encounter. I have to be super careful against them. You can only make like 2 mistakes a best before you are nearly KO'd.

Hardest character to fight against imo. At least against people who know how to play him.

Played a guy with a 9 win streak and lost. Got him again right after that and won.

Guess what he did?

Isn't that just frametraps? In fact, my light will beat your medium if we press it at the same time.

Yeah, but if they hit at the same time, even without any strategy, the medium will win. In 4, they would both hit.

For those who may not be familiar, 3rd Strike’s priority system governs trades. The basic rule is that stronger normals always beat weaker ones, special moves beat light and medium attacks but trade with heavy ones, and supers beat special moves.

My favorite thing to do online when you can sort of sense the confusion or fear from an opponent is a lk > kneepress, cr.mk kneepress loop until the opponent finds a way out. The axe (df hp) is also a great way to poke in and combos into cr.mp kneepress/inferno. I still slip and try to anti-air with hk or cr.lk cr.lk kneepress sometimes though. It's hard to break years of SFIV autopilot. I'm trying to pickup Necalli too and I'll probably just roll with those 2 until Alex and Balrog release.

Use cr HP for antiair, it sometimes trades but you will always do more damage and it looks sick. Also I saw that MP (or was it cr MP?), axe is a weird target combo that doesn't actually combo but it flows really well (it's even in the commands section of the game) and might catch people by surprise.

HK, cr MP xx Inferno is one of the easiest, sickest combos of the game. In V-Trigger you can add EX ball and EX stomp to blow away 50% or more of health. Bison is cool.

I finally managed a v-trigger super finish online with necalli. stay in tekken akuma, you can't compete with this swag overload

So why aren't there any trophies for clearing survival with all characters, for something that cheap there should be.

In the plus side I got all characters colors 1-6 and a bunch of fight money. Just over 400,000!

Anyone got tips for hard?!

Yeah cr HP is my go to anti-air. I didn't know about the EX ball or EX stomp after the Inferno BnB though. I'll have to start working that in. My biggest use of V-trigger has been cheap wins with the teleporting devil's reverse.

I have a cheezy strategy for using M.Bison.

Do the Head press (the d,u+kick move) and move slightly forward of the enemy while you're in the air. Right before you're going to land, move back. They'll do an anti-air in the wrong direction, and you can hit them with the Skull diver which if timed right can be followed up with st.mp xx cr.mp xx medium inferno. You can even do CA after the inferno if you have it.

Yes. df.HP xx cr.mp xx inferno/scissor/fireball.
You can also do the same with St.HK instead of df.HP, as you pointed out.

you can also chain st.mp xx cr.mp xx inferno/scissor/fireball. Great for follow up on jump-ins or after the head press.

A trophy for clearing survival hell mode with all the characters seems pretty fun

Comment on a PSTrophy site before release:

This looks like the first Street Fighter game I might be able to platinum! The trophies are a lot more forgiving this time.

If only they knew about how to get into gold. Mwahahaha

I also thought that this would be easy to Platinum but seeing that Gold League trophy just ruined any chance to get it. Maybe I might get good enough but I still doubt it.

Of course. But I just feel like they only jump if I try to grab, If I do a combo, they just sit and block.

Maybe try working in some tick throws? Make the opponent block your full combo a couple of times to condition them, then next time do a micro-walk after a couple of hits and command grab.

If they're just holding up to get out of your grabs, you need to find a move that stuffs them on the ground; i.e. a normal that has high priority and possibly links into other stuff, or at least one that you can use repeatedly to apply relatively safe pressure. I hear Mika has a tough neutral game, but there's gotta be something out there...

I'm not even a Mika player (hell, I only just started playing the game last night), but seeing your posts breaks my heart... Keep your chin up!

Ugh, I think I'm throwing in the towel with Gief. I like him in best of _ matches but in the ranked ladder it's too annoying trying to condition people. Might try Cammy or Mika instead now.

Not sure why but at certain times my connection in game just becomes shit. I usually get full bars when I'm fighting someone and pretty much no lag at all but I'm having trouble even connecting to opponents at the moment.

Pretty sure it's not my internet. Speed is fine and so is my latency.

Strange.

Hit Silver late last night, heading into casuals until the quitters are patched.

Will play there to learn new people, probably Gief and Cammy.

It probably sounds worse than it is. Most of my complaint posts are born from frustrating matches against better players ( several of my Ryu/Necalli posts were after loses to 3k+ players ) or where I lose because I lack knowledge about frame data or whatever. There's plenty of Mika players in the top 100, so clearly she's not as useless as I might feel she is in certain matchups. I just ain't at the level where I can play her properly against other players above a certain threshhold

Inching my way up the leaderboards, had a good day today and got to 2800 LP with Karin. Still a long way away from Gold though.

Ran some long sets against a Gief today. It went poorly for the Gief. The more I play the matchup the more I feel like it's in Karin's favor and significantly so. Gief doesn't seem to be able to deal with s.MK well without having to make a read. You can't do something like reaction b.HP it for the armor, it gets stuffed. Karin's sweep also punishes so many whiffed Gief normals and is long enough range that Gief can't get a punish off blocked ones. With SPD's being a longer startup in SF V as well, you can also play a more aggressive game than you'd expect, Karin's s.MP and c.MP are +frames on block so you can apply some pressure without worrying about eating a reversal SPD.

I have no idea how to play Vega, I know several small combos, a couple of v-trigger cancels into supers, but I have no idea how to use his v-reversal. I notice that I turtle up a lot and have hard time opening people up.

Maybe picking one of the most technical characters to main (because of the claw/no claw modes) was not the best choice. I do like his moves, I just suck at being offensive with him.

Currently at 815 LP with him but moved to causal matches so I don't have to deal with losing a butt load of points with losing streaks.Thinking about moving on to Chun or Laura once I get a hold of Vega. Don't want to let this character go he's too damn cool.

Hey what do you guys think best V trigger is? Nothin beats Necalli's in my book. Great visual effect, solid damage buffs, and g damn that dash speed! Just wish I could master v trigger combos...
I'd say Birdie's is pretty high up there. Faster walking speed, higher damage on everything, armor on start-up for two of his special moves (with increased hit count now too), can combo into CA after a Bull Horn from anywhere on the screen when close enough and his draining V-Meter can be refilled with donuts.

What's the +/- on dhalsim's slide?
They're all punishable if their spacing isn't on point. Only safe when cancelled by V-Trigger or if hit by them at their tippy-toes.

Birde vs Nash is such a tedious match-up.
They both can shut each other down, but can't take any risks.

So Nash is just zoning until he has enough meter, and Birdie has to crawl closer until he has Nash cornered.

Guys, watch Alex Valle's stream. He is incredibly helpful to the chat, answers so many questions, and is generally a good dude. Great asset to the community. http://www.twitch.tv/leveluplive

Valle went straight to the top of my list of fav SF V streamers these days. Guy has a great attitude, doesn't get frustrated like other people when he looses, is super helpful answering questions and is of course a fantastic player to top it off.

I beat someone with a 20+ winstreak and he didn't RQ. I sat there in shock

It was so weird I had a 9 match winstreak last night. Someone beat me fair and square... and I didn't disconnect. I just him a message "GG"

Is there something wrong with me? :(

So this is the first fighting game I'm actually attempting to get competitive in. I've been playing about 20+ casual matches per night but man, I'm a long ways away from "getting gud".

Is it better to just keep playing casuals to learn game mechanics or should I jump into web tutorials and focus on training mode?

3 in a row for this noob!
Man if this game does anything right its that it fuels that desire to convert your lucky mashes into genuine timing and skill.

Play a match and try to learn from it, maybe watch the replay. What hit you and why? Did you play the match-up right? Do you know what's safe and what isn't? Things you should be asking yourself.

morning. Any easy BnBs for Chun? Messed around with her and really enjoyed her kit but couldnt link ANYTHING to combo at all lol

Also any easy ªNecalli stuff besides the old j.HP, HP xx Foot stomp, c.MP xx bezerker barrage? I can never actually finish with barrage because I cant put a charge into a combo, so my combo is always very anti climatic with that little c.MP ;_;

Really good write up. I'll be using this for reference :)

Shit I haven't really thought about checking out replays. I'll take a look!
