They went to the trouble of removing the assassin. Someone knew what they were doing.

Outrage meter still pretty low, but don't defend this crap. (No, there are not may, but there shouldn't be even one loon)

seems odd because they'd have had to create the entire landscape for the next clip anyway - and presumably you're walking around there in the game (or a cinematic). So why couldn't they have just framed the camera and taken a screenshot, then painted over it or something?

Just seems weird.

Ha. They should clearly apologize and replace that. I'd even release the new trailer tbh. At least the actual location doesn't really look look like the artwork, so they can just swap the artwork on the painting with a new one - that looks more like a location in the game. It would have been super awkward if the location was dead on looking like the Ubi's artwork.

As for the character likenesses, people always see that in every game with imaginary characters, but it's almost never the case when judged objectively. The only time I thought there was something to it was the old Ellie design, and they went and changed it, because they were probably worried about it too.

Well it looks like it was cropped and stretched a bit to fit the frame. Doesn't really seem like someone was painstakingly removing the pirate.

It's not even the same art piece, the pirate (assassin) is not even there in the ND trailer.

It's transformative art.

Well damn. Does the artist own the concept art he did for the game or does Ubisoft? Did Naughty Dog pay Ubisoft to use the art? I doubt the artist would know about it if they did.

If some artist at Naughty Dog just lifted it, that is fucked up. I know they did have a problem previously with Last of Us where someone lifted an artists subway map, then they changed it. Though it still originally was in the retail game.

not even close to looking like her.

When I first saw that image I assumed they had hired Ellen Page to do the voice acting. Didn't even think twice about it. To my mind it was just obviously her.

The one with the black girl, though, I don't see at all.

Anyway, ND, stop stealing art. Though if Uncharted 4 is as good as Black Flag then it'll be pretty damn good - that game was incredible.

Holy crap. Some of you guys will just not allow any criticism of Naughty Dog at all will you? Ridiculous.

Maybe you just think that games are toys and there is not actually any artistic merit to them, but that is a piece of art created by another artist and then lifted before being modified and passed off as something that Naughty Dog created.

This is as simple as someone stealing someone else's work. There is nothing okay about that.

This kind of attitude is really shitty. Have some respect for the people that make these things. If you were a content creator you would NEVER be okay with someone stealing your content without crediting you.

It's pretty clear that half the people in here haven't even looked at the two and compared.

You are making a bigger deal of this than it needs to be made.

Changing the art will be extremely fast. They don't need to follow any of your pointless steps. After a few twitter ranting the status quo will return.

I think you misread my post. The things I listed weren't steps for Naughty Dog to take to resolve this issue, but rather speculation on how this happened in the first place without immediately pointing towards willful plagiarism.

And so the Uncharted-Assassin's Creed game universe begins....Desmond returns.

Honestly, doesn't this all seem kind of childish, for someone at Ubisoft to call them out on Twitter? If this is a legal matter I expect it to be solved behind the scenes. They're all adults working for huge corporations.
Maybe it's some sort of Easter egg? Two dev teams being cute with each other?

People love to find problems where there are none, huh? No one has any idea at all about anything and then everyone's first instinct is to think of the worst case scenario.

It is a problem. You can't just shove someone else's art in a game.

But a replacement image in the final game/an apology will fix everything.

Would be kind of funny if it was supposed to be an Easter Egg or something silly and now it's just been blown out of proportion.

Unfortunately, that's really not a likely chance.

Threads got combined I think.

It shouldn't be too big a deal for Naughty Dog to replace the image. Good thing it was brought up now, rather than later, where they'd need to patch it.

they still used it in promotional material presumably w/o consent, depends on the copyright holder if he, she or they pursue reimbursement..

Lol you reaching Rex come on bruh.

That's a bit forceful to see the resemblance.

I disagree I think it's every bit as close as the Ellie to Ellen resemblance was. Even if you don't think the resemblance is there it sure is suspicious to have so many "coincidences" with unattributed likenesses and artwork across TLOU and UC4. My point is that there is a pattern here and it's fucking ridiculous for a studio with the pedigree of ND to have this many eyebrow raising likeness issues.

What are the chances that Uncharted 4 could've shipped with this potentially plagiarized artwork had it not been included in this (or any other) pre-release footage for people to point out?

Pretty sure that was a joke post but you never know.

Sometimes, you do know.

Embarrassing for ND, but I'm sure they'll apologize and just replace the picture. Not the first time an artist has googled for some stock image, copied it, and then got caught. It's crazy that the image is so prominently featured in the trailer though.
