i can't read a word.

Haha, expected the amount of over-reaction this has got, not surprised in the least bit.

Still not ok, I mean re the artwork.

I guess they will just create a new one and replace the image before release. Probably dont even have to patch it in. The game is still being worked on. Not that big of a deal but its a slip up.

naw its just eurogamer blocking hotlinks

here it is though

I can hear Nathan's thoughts in that gif:

"Black Flag was a damn fine game, I wish there was a new gen sequel for it"

I know I want one too.

Not familiar with this picture, but is it supposed to bear resemblance to The Quiet Earth?

Nah, that was a different thing altogether. Basically if you google "space winter" there's like a million identical images to that one, so together with Bioware using a stock photo to make an important character's portrait it was an indication of them rushing some aspects of the game, or just not being that creative overall.

In the video game industry

This is exactly why gaming isn't like it used to be. Because it has now become a business. Not a hobby.

Lol that's not the case here, stealing a piece of art or information and not crediting or using a license is bad, no matter how you want to paint it. ND used someone else's work, maybe without permission, we don't know yet and I'm sure we'll find out. Then again, it's probably an easy thing to fix and reach a settlement for given it's a single picture and apparently has no big impact in the game, but some people will also definitely take any chance they get to trash ND as a whole. I'll just wait and see how this story develops, it doesn't really have any impact on my expectations from the game itself.

Edit: Just a piece of random trivia, there's a presidential candidate here in Peru who got a lot of backlash for stealing pages and pages of someone else's work for his doctoral thesis. Guy was at 12% in the polls, he's now below 8%. Not really saying these are the same lol, just felt like sharing.

Wow. I bet Ubisoft took the concept from some other source when they made this picture for black flag. This is a big deal because of the american judicial system and how you can file a lawsuit over anything. This was clearly an honest mistake because I am sure Naughty Dog does not need to borrow ideas from Ubisoft in order to have their vision realized for Uncharted 4. Regardless, i think Eurogamer should thank Naughty Dog as well as other gaming journalist websites for giving them an opportunity to create an article that will attract a ton of web traffic for the next day or two. That is the kind of influence Naughty Dog has on the gaming industry. They are that good. If only an indie developer stole that artwork for their trailer, no one would even notice. It's a shame that Naughty Dog is such an accomplished gaming developer because they will always fall prey to such scrutiny.

I hope this is a joke post. I just can't tell anymore.

It should definitely be changed and an apology issued, but there's nothing despicable or precedent setting about this. I think there are next to zero games out there that use no other art as reference when generating their own, and this one somehow got mixed up with the originals.

The point of that image in the trailer isn't to show "Look at this beautiful art from the Uncharted franchise of video game intellectual property! Preorder the newest entry now!" it's just a representative image to indicate what Nathan Drake is feeling (the actual appeal of the game).

reupload a new cut of the trailer...never happened everyone needs their eyes checked
I honestly think that this is what's going to happen. They're getting called out and within the next two days that trailer is going to be replaced. We will all yell at each other for a week or two, and we will forget about it because we don't know what to do about it

This is getting in U3 review thread insanity levels, but better because we have ND fanboys and ND haters mixed.

Have we gotten any official ND statement publicly apologizing and offering Uncharted 4 for free for everybody day one yet?
This is the only thing they could do to try to salvage whatever reputation they have left.

Hey guys. I just heard a rumor that the Naughty Dog concept artist and the Assassin's Creed concept artitst are good friends and went on a location scouting trip together where they took a photograph of the exact same location.

They went to the trouble of removing the assassin. Someone knew what they were doing.

That is what I was about to post. They took the time to photoshop out the assassin and used the scene as a quick and dirty job. They were well aware.

Also, some people are getting confused with thinking the beautiful beach scene from the game is what is in question here. No, they ripped off art from the AC IV concept art book and used it as picture in the game.

Tali one was better!

This is absolutely nothing like the Uncharted 4 image...that was purchased via stock and then edited. Totally legal. This was....well...unless Naughty Dog purchased the rights to that image, lifted...

That could definitely be a case...unless total bs.

Ah, thanks.

LOL, no. It's the same art. Sorry.

You may not like it or find the reveal underwhelming, but there was nothing illegal or stolen in that image. Stock or not Bioware paid for the rights of that picture and used it as it is their right. This Uncharted concept art thing is (we can only assume) an entirely different thing.

ND should come forth with an explanation or an apology and issue a new trailer with the change while silently feeling fortunate that this was pointed out before launch thanks to a trailer and not after!

Nothing illegal or stolen, but laziness above all.

I'm not familiar with what Bio did. Can you tell me?

They took a paid stock picture seen on the left, added some filters etc withh Photoshop and called it a day. (The base image was coprightright free so they broke no laws and likely just them very little). It's just that people were expecting to actually create a design for Tali's real face, rather than what they did.

I think someone mentioned that the version used in the trailer is available on the internet prior to this. Not excusing whoever was reponsible of course.

this is gonna distract me in the final game because that's how my brain works

admire drake and elena's sumptious rendering and animation? nope
try to focus on what they're talking about for the story? nope
stare at that fucking photo and judge what they replaced it with? sure thing

A lot of fuss over a stupid picture. I don't think people know how the art process work. Imitation and style plays into it. And let's remember that sometimes maybe artists don't realize that their art is actually resembles some on in real life. Like the doctor in MGSV.
