Tali one was better!

The added lens flare cracks me up every time.

I think it's clear that they certainly used her as a reference (maybe even that exact image), but I think they did a good enough job adding other characteristics and facial features to their model to make it different.

I wouldn't know for certain if they did that. All I know is that they don't look identical to warrant an outrage or to call for image infringement.

Its extra weird that to make that scene work they didn't just use the image the scene transitions into and make a texture out of it.
Here's about 1 minute worth of photoshopping doing just that

Naughty Dog just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about developing concept art (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like being a game director, where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw over a fellow concept artist, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the gaming public that plays Ubisoft games, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Uncharted 4, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Naughty Dog has alienated an entire market with this move.

Naughty Dog, publicly apologize and cancel Uncharted 4 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

"You know Nate, that really is an Assassin's Creed concept art"

Maybe Concept Artists care, but that's about it. Naughty Dog will fix the image in the game and it won't be an issue. People will buy this game regardless.

I don't understand why things like this can't just be seen as a complement to the original concept artist. It's not like that picture on the wall is some vital part of the game, or that anyone playing it really even gives a damn. Game isn't going to make more money because of this picture on the wall. I'd think an artist would just be happy to have the exposure.

It's perfectly ok and legal to do what Bioware did, people are complaining because it's lazy after all that secrecy.

This opens up a potentially big problem considering the only reason this was found out was because the trailer focused on it for a second. Depending on who actually put that asset in the game they may need to go through the whole game to look for more potentially copyrighted stuff

That's what I was thinking. Weird enough to see this happen in the first place, but pretty crazy that it got caught in a trailer. Hopefully it's an outlier and they sort it out before launch.

Some people I imagine be like this now:

"Now we can shit on ND big time"

This is a non-issue and will probably be fixed when the final game launches (and nobody will remember about this in 2 months)
except the person who created this concept and some salty Ubi staffers
I don't believe they intentionally stole that art. I guess they put that image as a placeholder, intending to later change it for the actual location they modeled and then forgot to do it.

It makes no sense to steal some other games artwork and then put it in the middle of a trailer.

Yeesh... reading all the different Uncharted threads on the front page is tough going. They're all basically just being used as agenda vomit threads by a lot of posters from the looks of things.

It's a shame, there's probably a legitimate point to be made with this coming off the thing with the maps on TLOU (Sorry guys, but treating the "Ellen Page" shit as something worthy of serious criticism is laughably dumb.) and what it suggests about the lax attitude of artists in ND's employ and whoever is responsible for vetting their work, but I somehow doubt that's what we're going to be getting in a thread with drive by posts about how "Naughty Dog aren't as good as fanboys say" or "Naughty Dog has the worst fanbase." somehow :/

Yep. Unfortunate that the thread is being used to further shit post agendas. I'm guessing that this was a lazy, outsourced mistake. It's not that big a deal in the end. They'll address it I'm sure.

You know the phrase "Good artists borrow, great artists steal,"

Does that make ND great? ;P

Edit: beaten

not the greatest = shitty?
you're good at reading m8

Nah you're good at logic.

That one guy's work which involves a single jpg has any bearing on the quality of a studio of hundreds is just i don't even.

This isn't an indie studio "m8".

Also go ahead and keep playing the fool with your meaning. I'm sure your comment meant they were good but not the greatest right?

Shoul've put a watermark on it Über.

Ruins the gif at that point. It's not about recognition (plus the gif took me like 5 mins), it's about courtesy. Anyway, it's done now, and I actually got some laughs out o the responses!

Well I mean, you can't second guess everything in a game, at some point you have to put faith in the people responsible and trust them. It appears someone betrayed that trust, or screwed up badly.

Very true. I just wonder if it was a member of in-house staff that cocked up or someone else down the line.

And people still shitposting... I'll wait for official response from ND or Ubisoft.

Wow. I bet Ubisoft took the concept from some other source when they made this picture for black flag. This is a big deal because of the american judicial system and how you can file a lawsuit over anything. This was clearly an honest mistake because I am sure Naughty Dog does not need to borrow ideas from Ubisoft in order to have their vision realized for Uncharted 4. Regardless, i think Eurogamer should thank Naughty Dog as well as other gaming journalist websites for giving them an opportunity to create an article that will attract a ton of web traffic for the next day or two. That is the kind of influence Naughty Dog has on the gaming industry. They are that good. If only an indie developer stole that artwork for their trailer, no one would even notice. It's a shame that Naughty Dog is such an accomplished gaming developer because they will always fall prey to such scrutiny.

First they stole Juno's face and I said nothing

Then they stole Battlestar Galactica's face and again I said nothing

When they came to steal my face there was no one left to speak for me

You may not like it or find the reveal underwhelming, but there was nothing illegal or stolen in that image. Stock or not Bioware paid for the rights of that picture and used it as it is their right. This Uncharted concept art thing is (we can only assume) an entirely different thing.

ND should come forth with an explanation or an apology and issue a new trailer with the change while silently feeling fortunate that this was pointed out before launch thanks to a trailer and not after!

I don't think it's too difficult to see a situation where an overworked and poorly paid contractor intentionally cuts a few corners when tasked with creating hundreds or thousands of art assets.
