They do seem to be hacks walking around in artist's clothing sometimes.

That's why the Druckman thing always bugged me, based on what little info was available. It seemed as though people let him believe he was making the The Road when really he just made a zombie movie after that sort of thing was way overdone.

From there, the egos probably ran the joint. I thought all three Indiana Jones rip offs were more novel than the zombie rip off.

This thread boy...

Is this what SEGA vs. Nintendo was like back in the day?

If the internet would've been around and based on what I used to hear on the playground at school, yes.

Overly-emotional individuals with no knowledge on how the industry or game development actually works.

It becomes noise at some point.

yikes

A single piece of nicked placeholder art ends up in a trailer and we spend 31 pages talking about it. 31 pages. Amazing.

Its not a placeholder art. Otherwise Naughty Dog will have changed it before they made it into a trailer.

That or they have forgotten to change this a placeholder art.

They are wrong in both scenarios. I lean towards believing its the first scenario, since they edited the pirate out.

Do people just make these sorts of scenarios up in their heads and convince themselves it's fact and then trot this sort of nonsense around.

.

We're reaching the pinnacle... It's about to blow.

Funny part is, even UbiSoft (AC devs) are not even upset about this, unlike posters on here.

But no, no emotional investment beyond 'ethics'... suuuuureeee.

Now excuse us while we all go on our TV show and movie stream/torrent sites.

yeah there's quite a few who are more invested in seeing Nd screw up than anything else. A number of posters have put forth very reasonable theories on how something like this could happen, but they will be ignored by the warriors who would rather people believe their simplistic take on the controversy.

Am I witnessing the birth of the "I'm an expert" succesor?

Wow.

i totally agree that this was not acceptable and shouldn't have happened but it has been fixed, they apologized and now we can move on.

some people in here do seem to be taking it very personal like naughty dog personally stole their art or something lol and come across like they have a different agenda.

this thread is hillarious, wow. Honestly I thought they were just paying homage to ubisoft and keeping in theme with the two games.

You know there was a time when we wouldn't have even known about this. Before social media blew up to the monster it is today, Ubisoft would have contacted Naughty Dog and rectified the situation. But nope, it had to go on Twitter in an effort to blow up the internet and manufacture a ton of drama. Mission accomplished.

It was absolutely not cool that ND did this, but to have their name dragged through the mud over it, saddens me.

I'm pretty sure this wasnt an honest mistake as the pirate was photoshopped out. Caught art stealing and now trying to lie about it.

Did I miss something? Did someone make a statement I wasn't aware of? Who's lying? Who said it was an honest mistake? Druckman said they didn't vet the art, and I don't know how "we fucked up" is anything but an admission of guilt.

My bet:
4) A lazy artist got the image from Google Images and tweaked it a bit, without knowing it was from AC and thinking nobody else would notice it.

Exactly what I thought of.

There's a lot of things that could be going on here.

1) Naughty Dog could've licensed the artwork from Ubisoft. Not likely, bur certainly possible. Even Ubisoft's head of content wouldn't necessarily be made aware of that if it was the case.
2) A third-party asset creation team hired by Sony/ND could've snuck this into their commissioned art package hoping no one would notice.
3) Someone at Naughty Dog could've used the artwork as a placeholder and forgotten to replace it in time for the trailer.

My bet:

I bet Naughty Dog wouldn't accept to use art from someone else, and to see they even reuploaded the trailer changing it proves this. If asked about using their asset, Ubi gladly would have accepted it, but Naughty Gods have elite artist so it isn't needed. So Ubi makes some jokes and puns, Naughty Dog apologizes and changes the trailer and the game and it's over. No drama needed.

Well, the updated picture is still stolen and I think Naughty Dog needs to be under serious investigation for theft.

Yea...The warriors and the fanboys are the worst about this whole thing. The situation should have never happened and it's embarrassing, but they corrected it and apologized. Nothing malicious.

You even have posters in here giving rational explanations as to how this happened and COULD happen very easily. Some are willingly ignoring.

Either way. Tomorrow this will be nothing.

now that I've reflected on this a bit it does kind of strike me as unprofessional for the Ubisoft person to go immediately to twitter with all of this rather than try and handle it with ND privately.

it's also unprofessional so steal art so I guess it's a wash

I think it has a lot to do with people being annoyed at how many ND fans act when these kinds of issues come up. Look at this thread, extremely defensive and dismissive posts all over the place, posts attacking Ubisoft, etc.

They only did it as a tongue in cheek retaliation because that same guy called out Ubi animators

i am sure this will be internally investigated and the person responsible will likely be shown the door but they are not going to say it in public that one of their guys stole the art

Hacks, I tell ya. Nothing but a bunch of hacks:

Anyway, don't pin the fuck up of one person on the team that created what you see above you. Not to mention the body of work they have already established.

True but it's clear ND never meant to do anything malicious. I think it would have been cool if he tried to go to them privately and say "hey that piece of artwork was concept footage for a previous game"

But then who knows if anyone would have saw it or if it would have been resolved this quickly.

This is how gamers are unfortunately. If people are upset at ND fans for brushing it off why would you go to the other extreme to make some sort of point? Be above that shit.

Ive actually had my art stolen. I emailed the website that stole it, they apologized and took it down. I was even paid for the time it was up (I wasn't even expecting it) I didn't make a big deal out of it, and I wasn't offended.

If they were dicks I'd obviously made a big deal out of the situation. Naughty Dog weren't dicks about it. They apologized. Everyone here should grow up and move on.
