How good is the online? I want to buy this soon.
The online gameplay is A tier (S tier being Skullgirls). Unfortunately rollbacks can be one sided, there are no pre-match delay settings, ragequitters are everywhere, newbies are still being pitted against super strong players, there are no 8 player lobbies, there is no spectator and loading times are still pretty bad. Luckily most of the online fighting is smooth, the replay function is pretty cool, CFN allows you to collect match replays and you can favorite people using your CFN for sparring or other versus stuff, but you can't PM them iirc. It's a mixed bag, but the online is smoother than nearly all fighters that used delay based netcode and there are some nice features that other games don't have.
Well there really isn't any other way to play Ken.
If I knew you irl I'd buy you a beer for this post lol.

Anyone up for some fun times? I need to practice pokes and defensive play. Being aggressive is what is leading to my decrease in rank (lost over 600 points by now these last days).

Just had a classic Ken RQ right before I was about to hit 3000 LP. It's like they know they don't want to see you League Up lol.

Man, I'm so torn about getting a Hori arcade stick. I wanna improve my game but I'm watching nuckledu play nash and nailing his combos and it just doesn't seem that necessary. Dropping 125 euro's on it is also not exactly cheap but I don't think buying those mini fight sticks Hori makes any sense either. How are pad players and stick players feeling?

ever since the Dreamcast era, I can't play fighting games with pads anymore. if you plan on playing a lot of fighting games at home, invest in a stick. worth it. the HRAP4 also works on PS3 and PC so you can use it there too.

The problem for me is that I don't run into amazing Ryu's. Just run-away Ryu's. Dat end to end screen Ryu. Lame ass Ryu. Sigh.

I'm a really aggressive Ryu and I think some guys aren't used to it. oddly enough, I'm still considered a defensive player by the game.

For that to have happened already steam, UK and Japan sales would literally have to be triple what they currently are. Sales age is pretty data driven on GAF. Once you've seen enough launches, NPDs and media create threads you get a good feel for this sort of thing. Besides, a million copies is a sort of miletone on it's own. If SFV could hit those numbers so fast (without channel stuffing) with this mess of a launch Capcom would be shouting it from the rooftops.
yeah that's what I meant should have said shipped. We got 100k for UK + JP 100K for PC, and let's estimate 100K for rest of Europe and 100K for U.S plus 100k for digital. 500k sold and 1 million shipped should happen by mid March at least, the updates need to come fast though to reverse word of mouth into all positive instead of "base game is great but wait for content".

steam spy has it at around 100K

still, it's capcom's best performing PC fighter release if so
Yea...Hopexully world wide it did decent enough.

Hey, sent me a PM with your CFN and PSN/Steam. I'm in Denmark, so we should have a good connection.
Yeah sure, sounds good

I bought a Hori RAP4 yesterday and already nailing combos much easier and ive never used a stick before, feels great.

I don't think it's necessary for this game, considering that the only advantage that a stick has over the pad, which is p-linking, can't be don't in SFV.

I enjoy playing on stick, but I agree you do not need one for this game. Unless you plan on getting into other fighters in a big way, you're better off saving your money here.

It's all about preference I'd say. A stick can be easier thanks to the button layout but then adjusting to it can be a challenge. If your curious you could always try out some of the cheaper sticks just to get a feel for what it's like to use one and then move onto the higher quality stuff if you find you prefer it to pad. Personally, I prefer stick because of both the button size and layout + it being a tad easier to do all the crazy motions after some practice.

I feel like sticks is part of the fun (makes fighting games more fun to play), but it has something to do with growing up with arcades.

Yo I just noticed Laura smirks a little when she walks forward. The animations in this game are just so godlike. Shame about physics clipping.

Oh yeah, sure, that's why I prefer and continue to use one. I just don't think it's necessary or is worth $150-$200 if you are already fine with a pad.

Absolutely not necessary.

However I enjoyed the transition from pad to stick back when I got one when Tatsunko vs Capcom came out, and felt once I got the initial period of completely sucking at stick for a month, I ended up being super consistent with my inputs compared to how I was on pad.

Go with what you're most comfortable with (playing and spending), but I don't usually hear of people who switch from pad to stick and dislike it.

I think this game is better with a stick, because button accesibility. But it is important to recall that this game in special is very controller friendly... Except for Dhalsim. Because of the teleports, I can only play Dhalsim on a fighting stick.

As a new player to Street fighter and fighting games in general, is it at all worth it to start playing on a fight stick? or is a controller the way to go for someone new?

Stick definitely isn't needed for improving your game. Lot of good players use pad and it pretty much comes down to preference and what you are comfortable with.

If you buy that 120€ stick though you can probably sell it at 100€ if you don't like it and if it is in good condition.

Basically only time I use the triggers is on teleport with sim. Otherwise agree one of the better sf for controller use (fight pad) ... but outside of arcades I prefer a pad.

Use whatever you want. I can learn a super hard combo on pad after hours of practise and transition it to stick in less than a minute. Most people find the main difference to be that stick feel better to use, but I switch between the two constantly.

If you end up liking the genre and can afford it, go for it. They also keep their value pretty well if you want to sell it off.

If you're rich, sure get whatever you want that will motivate you to improve. If you just want to get good, stick is not required. Especially for easy to play characters like Birdie.

I've encountered so many of those types of players. Usually they're connection is laggy af too.

The second part of that problem is that I am not patient enough to make short work of those types of Ryu's. I win more than I lose usually but the battles are always long and slow and probably the video game equivalent of nails on a blackboard. So, in the sense that winning is everything, those Ryu's, at least against me, do a fair enough job getting under my skin enough that I make stupid mistakes.

I prefer the aggressive Ryu that just obliterates me any day.

we should play in the future. altho I'm taking a break until March update.

Controller. If you have never played on a stick it takes some to get adjusted. You dont really get an edge or anything unless your super comfortable with it.

My first fighting stick for the ps3 was the Hori Real Arcade Pro Stick 3 (cheap loose buttons) and it sucks in comparison to Madcatz TE 2. You should get a proper one once you get one. I think its better to see if you enjoy fighting games first before spending a lot of money on something you might only use for one type of game.

Thanks for the input on the stick, I found a good bundle in the UK with the game that basically made the cost of the game free but i'm still thinking about it as it would spend my entire game budget for the month on payday!

I'm not sure what they can do about the clipping tbh because the character styles are just designed in such a way that that will occur. They would probably have to give the hair more bones so it doesn't clip through stuff which would change the shape of it as it clips a lot of the time + be way more expensive to render.

...am i the only one that playing Fang feels like i'm doing 3 times the work as when i'm playing any other character?

Like fuckin hell, i feel like doing the most insane shit, meanwhile a Cammy player gets a combo in and i'm fucked for life :(

Yeah, you gotta put in some work if you're playing FANG. But the result is usually some delicious salt. Also helps if you taunt and wear hideously bright colors on him.

Yeah it made the game feels fresh for me at least, easily my favourite of the cast

Shame that it's a hideous fuck, the grab walk is goat tho

I can honestly get over the clipping. It's just one of those things that you learn to accept with games you love. I think the animations are overall incredibly solid, and I 100% love all the character models and how they move.

What I genuinely hold out hope for is that they improve the shadow quality though. Maybe they'll have some time with things calming down to optimize it a little bit more and get rid of those damn dithered self-shadows.

Learning on a stick will be hard. There are a lot of good pad players out there so it's not really needed. I used to play at the arcades a lot is the reason I used a stick. And also the 360 d-pad was terrible.

There's no easy catch-all way to fight super defensive opponents but know that when you finally figure out how to open them up it'll be a really important skill to have learned. Not just learning to use overheads, fireball invincible moves, jumping from the right distance, etc. but just the act of being less predictable is a huge part of improving, I think.

Oh god yes. I agree about the clipping, I'd rather have it as it is and running at 60fps than better with dips but the shadows could really do with some tweaking.

I'm hoping that they'll have time to optimise too, especially if they're going to be sticking with this game for as many years as they say they are. It can only get better! :P

Clipping I have already gotten over, the shadow dithering though? That shit is ruining it for me.

Fingers crossed there's a fix coming.

Speaking of sticks vs controllers, anyone else have an issue hitting the diagonal down on fireballs, etc? When I try to do a fast QCF, it's really hit or miss, and quite often the game doesn't register my diagonal down input, which obviously fails my move. I feel like a stick would definitely be better in this regard, or even a controller tailored to fighting games. It happens with both my PS4 controllers, so I'm guessing it's a more common problem not affecting just me? Maybe I'm wrong.
