Any tips for my beginner Laura?
https://youtu.be/KnyFZB6uJK4

From what I can tell I should anti air more and work on punishes (start a combo with st.HP for crush counter on blocked DP for example) but any tips for the neutral game, etc?

I watched this, I'm no expert but I can give my 2 cents.

The main thing that stands out it that I don't think you're using the right normals in up close situations. You do a lot of cr.lp, cr.lp, cr.mk xx elbow. This isn't a combo and it isn't really a frame trap either, cr.mk has 7 frames start up, compared to cr.mp which has 5. Consider strings like:

st.lp st.lp xx elbow
st.lk st.lk xx elbow
st.lp st.mp cr.mp xx elbow

The first two will combo on hit, and the last one can combo on counterhit st.mp.

I think you could use her longer range pokes more as well, st.lk buffered into elbow is good at catching limbs, cr.hp is good at hitting low pokes as well. I also didn't see you use st.mk, I think it's an excellent button even though it doesn't lead to anything without v-trigger, one you have v trigger st.mk becomes very strong. You can also run cancel it into throw as a way in, which is probably considered a gimmick but will totally work sometimes.

Remember ex elbow also, it has armour and can punish fireballs and predictable pokes, it can also catch jump back.

EDIT: also speaking of ex moves, you end quite a few rounds with full or nearly full meter so more meter usage in general will help a lot.

Remember to quick rise also, you forget sometimes. Laura has poor wake up defense so it's pretty important for her.

My Ryu play has kind of evolved in the past week. After all the time I spent i the beta I thought that a very defensive Ryu was the best way to go and I played that way for the first week. Mainly against characters I felt it was best suited for. But the past week I've changed it up and I feel I've done better. I feel like I'm doing better against characters like Necalli, Karin, Chun, and Rashid by not trying to play keep away all the time. I'm still lame when I think I should be, but I'm not backing off constantly when they come forward. Among those 4, I actually try to rush down Rashid and Necalli because I think Ryu's normals do OK against theirs(I'm still not too familiar with their normals yet so it's more about feel than actual knowledge).

Stick with some simple combos for now.

Each punch can go into its own weight flying peach.

So LP > qcf LP
MP > qcf MP
HP > qcf HP

Mp can link to HP. So MP > HP > qcf HP is a good one.

Also f+HP launches them and can be followed up with qcf +k (wingless aeroplane).

Mp cam also chain into her Irish whip which is hold towards or away from the opponent and hit MP twice.

So for example MP > f+MP > f+MP
Then you can combo of the screen bounce.
If you are next to the edge of the screen (you have them in the corner) you can get them with f+HP then qcf + mk. If you arnt near the edge you can force a screen bounce by dashing back once, then hit them with a qcf + HP.

All the above cn also be started from a jumping heavy kick or punch.

The other one to learn is her target combo. Lk > MP. This can easily be comboed into qcf MP. It can also be chained from a charged HK.

Then you have the options of stoping the combos half wy through, jumping over them and hitting lk which is a cross up. The. You can do the target combo or throw etc etc.

There are way more complex comboes but I don't know those or have the muscle memory to bother with them right now lol.
Thanks, very helpful!

I feel I will have to learn to block and attack first, though. Most of those combos will miss because people just use dash tornados or block if I try to use them, or I will die to shoryukens because I haven't yet figured out how to block them. Pressing left doesn't seem to do it. Pressing left also feels weird to block, because Mika starts walking left.

How do you think rage-quitting and cheating will be dealt with accordingly? Consider the future of online SFV doomed if they don't crack down on this behaviour.

I despise RQ but honestly i dont think capcom has the right to ban people from playing online. They need to come up with a solution. It worked in SF4.

This is really taking the piss now lmao. I keep getting matched with Silver/Super Silver and Gold players, I keep losing, that's all good. So I finally managed to beat a Super Silver Bison player and the wanker just leaves.
Too Easy
.

Capcom plis

I mentioned it before but it's even more annoying when they aren't even that bad. He's clearly a fine player, not sure why he feels the need to RQ. You're not going to qualify for evo or something because you have a high rank. Not sure what the mentality is.

"I'm better than you, the loss was a fluke, you don't deserve these points. Since my only power after a match is to take that away from you I will"

It's all ego man, ego and achievements I suppose. Some people just really hate losing and would rather be cheap assholes about it by pulling their cords then just accepting that they might not be as good at SF as they hoped.

Hopefully this gets properly sorted out soon, I feel like the march update was probably going to come out early march but with all the problems with the game , it's probably coming late march now instead so they can have all this shit in place.

I went on a diatribe earlier about how they could handle RQ's but I feel the easiest way to punish those that do it is - a disconnect forces a 5 minute cooldown and counts as a loss including losing any LP that should have been sacrificed. Multiple DC's should ban you from ranked matches - maybe 24 hours then 72 hours , then a week and then a month. If you still don't shape up after that month ban , well maybe they kick your entire account offline and you've gotta start from scratch again.

This morning I had a go at using PixelRender to 'demake' Ryu + Ken. Now I want to make a fighting game like this!

btw. my CFN ID is kode80, I main Dhalsim at the moment. After getting my ass handed to me in gaf MK8, I'm out for revenge. :D

Is there a way for you to see who you last played even if it was a rage quit. I know you can see your fight history, but Capcom wasn't smart enough to include disconnected matches.

It's so stupid. Just had a high level R.Mika quit on me just because I won and I was about to rank up. What an asshole.

For a game that is so "focused" on online play and the tourney scene, it is lacking A LOT of basic things that other online competitive games have implemented.

Capcom can't really patch this out, as it is likely a cheat involving the direct memory manipulation of the game while it is running (using something like Cheat Engine). They would have to create specific tools in order to detect such manipulations, or better yet just add VAC support to the PC version of SFV.

However, as I noted above, this is not something that is usable online. If a player is dumb enough to attempt this, it will simply result in the games disconnecting due to them going completely out of sync, as the cheat will only work on the cheater's computer, while the attack would simply do normal damage on the other person's computer / console.

Ah okay, thanks for explaining it. I'm pretty ignorant to the workings of stuff like that. That is pretty interesting.

Are you on PC or PS4? Because the PS4 records 15 mins of gametime. On PC, I believe someone said Win 10 has recording. In game there is nothing.

Turn on the accept match option and only use fight request. That way you can see the connection before accepting. You're getting teleport fiestas because the game throws 1 bar connections at your way even when searching for 4-5

Thanks man. I didn't know it worked like that. This is awesome.

PC. I should turn on shadowplay when playing SFV.

Hey, I know I said this in the FGW thread but it probably was missed since that thread was moving during Daigo's stream but you want to run another set later? I want to explore the matchup of Fang vs. Ryu a bit more, since I'm still learning of all Fang's tools. Though I need to be somewhere late afternoon, so I guess whenever it's not then is cool with me.

More Street Fighter Trivia:

Everybody hates Bison. He's got a lot of enemies, because he does a lot of mean shit, but he's still arrogant as fuck because he's super strong.

Despite this, Bison actually likes Sagat. They used to train together before the latter left Shadaloo, and presumably leaves him alone instead of sending goons to kill him for that reason.

So Spooky said on Stream yesterday that you could always follow up Karin's CC hk with
- dash up fierce
- V-Skill
- shoulder (qcf.k~d.p)

But non of that seems to work without either V-Trigger activation or is range specific (V-Skill)

I guess that would also explain why he would let Sagat be one of the Grandmasters in his SF2 WW tournament.

Aww yeah, another runback rage quit by a super silver. This time it was a Ryu by the name of urockdan2k. I should really start recording these.

People really don't appreciate meaty s.lk comboing into super.
