Far Cry Primal |OT| The Land Before Towers

I'm having a hard time not being noticed when I'm crouched and attempting to sneak up on (mainly) animals, and sometimes humans as well. I noticed just this morning that pressing left on the control pad brings up a menu where I can cover my scent if I have the right ingredients, I take it this will help? Also, im seeing that the animal companion I have affects my stealth ability as well...anything else?

When attacking a settlement (say for one of the rescue missions) I use the owl to scout and look for an isolated enemy near the outside of the target that I can lure towards me.

If there are two enemies that refuse to separate, I kill one with the owl.

I've got the skill that reduces noise, and the other that increase movement speed when crouched.

With animals (if I'm wanting to tame) I send my companion away.

Honestly I feel as if melee was designed the way it is as a choice aka last resort and also simplistic due to the time period. Not because they said, hey let's make this shit.

I just think they spent their money other places. It bothers me less and less the more I play.

I have to post a clip of this double headshot I hit the other day. I have aim assist and crosshair disabled... and it was so weird because the way they were running at me, I was like "i wonder if i just sidestep a bit and wait.._" BOOM. Two arrows, right between their eyes.

I felt like Tom Hanks beating his chest "I Have Made... Hot Fire!"

In all fairness I'm running with a cave lion or a sabretooth tiger which scare away almost all other hostile animals, so I never have to worry about getting attacked [aside from cave bears and you can hear them from a mile away so it's fairly easy to avoid].

As for humans, they can spot you from pretty far away. General rule of thumb for me is, when the detection ring pops up, just crouch, move back the way I came and flank.

Does the enemy AI feel less forgiving for anyone else compared to FC4? Once a body is found the entire enemy camp will know exactly what bush I'm hiding in and converge on my location

Yeah, I said this exact thing a few pages back. It's also pretty telling that melee isn't supposed to be your first line of offense when mid-to-end game enemies can take 4-5 bars of life off with a single melee hit!

Also... How do I engage those beast master quests to get the best animals? I've revealed a good part of the map, have followed quest lines, etc. Nothing so far. Have about 115 people in my village and believe I'm around %35ish complete, stat wise.

Ya, like I said a few pages ago, I didn't notice a single framerate hitch in my entire playthrough. For the game looking as good as it does and being open world, it's a pretty stunning technical achievement, I think.

Ya the performance difference between this on release and FC4 was noticeable right away to me. Though most of FC4 got fixed but the rejiggering the render seems to have got it under control for the most part.
Depending on the difficulty ya. Easy was still fairly dumb and i could get away without any issue whatsoever 100% of the time. But each step up adjusted that pretty dramatically.

I am currently trying to nohud, expert it and let me tell you. Them suckas is bloodhounds lol

I'm trying to force my way through 4 at the moment and the AI behaves similarly. I suppose the intention is to keep you moving, but it is annoying that silent/stealth kills aren't rewarded with a more scattershot search pattern.

Kinda how I feel, man. Bows, bee nades and spears on fire are the go to weapons for me. Though I am looking forward to seeing what the sling can do. Not there yet.

This game is going to take me at least a month or two before I am able to finish it judging by the amount of stuff I can do and how highly captivating this is.

The moment I settle down on my bed, turn on the headphones and dim the lights I am hooked.

Is anyone else getting a wierd flickering on PS4. It happens when i move the right stick, almost like the colour flickers when i look around. Its really offputting and i dont get it in any other games.

Finally finished the main story in about 17 hours, this game is great, there's no doubt I'll continue my journey through Oros, still a lot secondary missions to do

Primal is the first Ubisoft game since Black Flag where I'm exploring for the sake of exploration instead of to check things off a list. Sure there's a bit of that, but I do legitimately want to see what's around the corner. Props to the world design team as they did a top notch job.

Ew. There's a trophy for taming a creature then killing and skinning it? Ubisoft, you monsters. :(
Yeah, but I think they're trying to *hint, hint* it's a way to quickly get some rare crafting materials. They acknowledge it's dirty with the trophy name.

They usually always do an amazing job, it's the other aspects of their games that are usually mediocre or bad.

I would actually disagree with that. Even in recent Ubi games that I liked, the environment felt designed around the checklist. The atmosphere may have been well done but the actual design of the world was not if you understand what I'm saying.

Some of the lighting in this game is just incredible, I was always sleeping through the night phase of the day and today I got stuck while trying to tame a jaguar in the dark. Holy shit....just amazing lighting coming from the moon through the threes, I wandered around with my jaw on the floor until I got mauled by something big. I don't even know what it was but it killed me fast lol

Just amazing how nice the game can look with such a stable framerate on the PS4. Well done.

Well I have to thank Karak for the advice, because it turns out that turning the minimap off, tags etc made the experience a lot better for damn sure. The only times I open the big map is when I need to know which direction I have to go for a new mission or anything else I want to check out. From there I just go into that direction and it's all fine. It's great NOT knowing when you're going to encounter human enemies or wild animals, I love it. Now when I hear people screaming, I have no idea if they're going to be friend or enemy. Just now I was in this cave and I had killed some jaguars and thought I had killed them all, so I go down and holy shit, right in front of me another jaguar and right there I thought I was done for, turns out....it was my tamed animal. But because I had no minimap I had no way of knowing. I love it.

By the way, it sometimes tell you to study cave paintings, what do I do when I see them? I saw multiple ones so far.

Go tame a Sabretooth and keep it with you at night. You won't get attacked because pretty much everything save mammoths and unique beast-hunt creatures will run away from it.

I'm going to be so pissed if this game doesn't sell enough to make the suits happy.

I think it's under a lot of people's radar because of its close release proximity to Street Fighter. But this is definitely the route that needs to be taken with both Far Cry and Assassin's Creed. We need drastically different characters and settings in these games to keep them from becoming too repetitive. The formula isn't going to change very much, because we know what we're getting with these franchises (and that's why we like them), but they become much less interesting when they get stuck in too-similar time periods like Assassin's Creed did.

The game is a blast - the NeoGAF hype is warranted, though the melee is simply terrible. There's something about the repeated animations coupled with the lousy hit detection that makes it feel incredibly unsatisfying.

Though when every other aspect is done so well, I can't help but get sucked in.

Ooooh so nice!!!!

I saw these yaks and I decided to hunt them, sent my jaguar after it and I fired an fire arrow at it. As soon as it started to flee while on fire it lights up the ground as well, I love the fire tech they got in this. It really is improved over FC4 here.

Was also hunting this mountain lion and he fucked up my jaguar badly, so I definitely wanted his ass dead. He ran away though, but thanks to the blood trail I was able to find him and end him. Definitely loving this game.

Had something weird happen. After a few hours I got pink vertical lines across my entire screen. My first fear, my projector panels are fried. My next fear, the PS4 is fried. My hope, I ran into a graphical glitch. Turned it off and played later, didn't show up again.

I don't think Mammoth (Legend of the Mammoth) is exclusive to PS4, cause I'm playing them on xbox, unless there is another set of those missions, I think it was just pre-order bonus.

How do you know when you've beat this game? I feel like i have, but there wasn't any obvious closure, and no credits rolled

Edit: nvm. Just got credits, apparently I hadn't "beaten it"

Oh man...this game is awesome. Managed to get it for $30 applying some gift cards and whatnot at GameStop, and honestly I would have been happy paying $60 for it. Really fresh and unique setting, and it's hyping me up for WiLD. Awesome spinoff.

It is so freaking funny to watch the red dots approaching on your mini map, hear a roar then watch then do a 180 and run the other way.
