Now the show will only disappoint if they don't do this I'm dying over here.
The Town Without Me is perfect. Where Only I Am Missing is more awkward syntactically, but both are still superior to the bland Erased.

Satoru's power gets more advanced as he ages. Future Satoru can send his body back as well as his mind.

it's not really butterfly effect though, because the first time he came back there should have been some changes to his timeline besides a change to her death time.

All of this talk about the Sataru's ability has me wondering now. What happens to Sataru's body after he goes back to the future.
Does his mind just revert back to the version of him being a partial loner who is "faking it"? does he as a kid retain all the memories that he went back with? Or does it only change the things he personally interacted with, aka since he became all outgoing and proactive, does child Sataru continue to be outgoing and proactive, or since he became friends with Kayo does he continue to be friends with Kayo?

I genuinely don't think the manga author put that much thought into the time travel mechanics, so don't worry too much about it.
I'm going in with the assumption that until he saves Kayo, the timeline is intact and outside of affecting the past body right there and then nothing else changed.
Total derail - but whats number one?
If there's something better than Erased I want to watch it now.
I'm thinking he's talking about Rakugo. It seems to be a favourite amongst anime GAF this season.
I watched the first episode. Its certainly well produced/directed. Hell, well written, even. But I couldn't find it in myself to be interested in the subject matter.
Erased is a great catchy title that represents the pulp mystery aspect of the series well. It's evocative and simple, but matches the intended theme of the original title. But if they wanted to go with a more poetic and melancholic tone for the title to give it a more artistic cred, I think something like "Without Me There" would have be fitting.

Number 1 is definitely Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.
That would be fine. Of course, as you allude to, the series is kind of caught between wanting to be artistic and poetic and wanting to be a pulp thriller; it's a shame the latter part couldn't have been discarded (although maybe it would have had more difficulty finding an audience that way?).

I don't care for Rakugo either don't worry. If they had stayed with the characters introduced in the intro I would have liked it. But the second it turned into a period show over an artform I didn't know of or cared about, I lost interest.
The breakfast scene was really well executed. They improved it from the manga by several fold. In the manga it was just half a page of panels where she sees the breakfast and recalls the shitty breakfasts her mom left her and the coins. For the anime they did the blinking effect which was great, and then added that extended scene where she was all alone eating in the park. They extended the crying scene too, since I guess someone really wanted to animate it well. Lol.

I just have a differing opinion as well as many others, that's all. Just like whenever says this is the best show of the season for them, they are corrected with Rakugo. I'm not trying to be confrontational at all; that's just not my style. I like to chill and have fun and discuss things with ya'll; good and bad.

Originally the killer kidnapped and murdered Hina, after which he dumped her body in some trash covered by snow.
But when she wasn't alone anymore, he somehow still monitored her house hoping she would get beaten and send to the outdoor storage again? Then he kidnaps her, kills her by freezing and tries to frame it as an accident caused by the mother (btw what's the deal with the bf that no one acknowledges in the show). What, why that drastic change?
A lot in the show seems a bit contrived, everyone knows everything when it happens to go along with the plot (or the opposite, not telling crucial information whenever it prolongs the mystery like that phone call from his mom to the journalist), often only possible by somehow stalking each other undetected the whole day lol
Also, I know they said Satoru didn't really care about this friends originally, but it's still weird that he didn't seem to have any reaction towards Hiromi, considering he gets killed later on as well...
Show started good, but so far declined for me the further it went. The emotional events are still top notch though.
I wish for the killer to be more than a serial killer. Like, someone with the same revival ability but using it for bad stuff or even better, knows who has to die to prevent some far off event in the future. (at least that would explain the peaceful killing, at least from the one modus operandi we know, and his anger in the bus over probably not being able to track Hina down.) However in the present they showed him to be that comically evil guy already so that's not gonna happen.

Yeah, this show does provide the right emotional impact at the important parts. The highs feel great, but the lows really tear you up. As a viewer you feel powerless. I'm looking forward to see how Satoru completes his mission and saves Kayo from an untimely death.

The conclusion to "saving Kayo" was well scripted and really heartfelt. You can see why Satoru is so conflicted at what was done, regardless of his age/mental state. (which makes more sense, knowing what we have heard about what was going n with him emotionally during this revival) Kenya continues to be very perceptive of Satoru's emotions and what he is up to, as well as trying to be there for him as his wingman. The candy scene in the car with sensei, either proves they are purposely trying to make it obvious that he is the killer and toying with the audience, or toying with the audience that he is obviously the red herring in the whole thing. We still have no idea who the killere really is, but I guess we have 4 episodes left to save the two other girls and clear his name in the future.

The ending scene will be everyone going through lives without satoru as Mad World plays along.
Kayo will ride her bike to satorus apartment as his mom is crying and the neighbors are gathering.
"what happened here" she'll ask
"a guy named satoru. He somehow died in some freak accident. Did you know him?"

Haha, yeah, that car scene was straight-up trolling.
What really seemed odd to me though is the teacher's line about how he didn't want all of Satoru's struggle to end in tragedy. They even made sure to bring attention to that line again when Satoru asks him about it in the teacher's lounge. Previously I thought that they were setting the teacher up as a red herring, but now I think he may actually be the killer, and the implication of that line may be that he is also using Revival and knows Satoru's been fighting to save Kayo, or something to that effect. I dunno, just spitballing here.
If the teacher is the killer, though, that means there's probably another ace up the author's sleeve - they're letting us know the killer early because there's something bigger than the identity of the killer in play that they're keeping secret.

Oh no, your absolutely correct there and I noticed that as well. They are completely toying with the audience to cast doubt on how we think about the teacher. They really need to stop playing games with his character. The only reason I do not think it is the teacher at all is because Satoru clearly saw the killer's face when he was being arrested in the future. He would have been focusing on a way to have sensei caught by other adults if he believed it was him...

If the teacher is really the killer, I'm really curious about his motivation. Other than some suspicious behavior here and there, he seems great. In this episode he was a father figure to Satoru and he was really dependable on the whole Kayo rescue. I find it really hard to believe he can be the same person that murders Satoru's mom and has a smile on his face.

The teacher would need to be an extremely skilled sociopath (i.e. blending in, behaving naturally). He's not even too normal to be weird again. I guess the only thing suspicious is that he is the most decent adult in the show apart from the mother. If it's him, then he now knows that the kids know the potential kidnapper was in the bus.
I think the biggest thing speaking against him being the killer is him going out of his way to save Kayo. He reached out to her granny and drove her to them which not only gives Kayo a place to stay but even gave the shitty mother some closure. A sociopath would have no interest in any of that and no one expected him to do so either.
My best guess is that we haven't seen the face of the killer yet and only the mother knew him from her work, so it will be just some random state official who wasn't involved in the story apart from the killings.
