Erased 8

Well, a slow episode. Nothing to to write home about. It was full of slow, meandering moments when at this point it should heighten the danger and get with the story. Even the moment
he comes back home and later when she cries
were predictable.

In fact, I'm starting to think this story would have been better as a 2 hour thriller. Usually I prefer series as they allow for better characterization and involvement with the plot thanks to the longer running time, but the format is affecting the pace badly.

So that was the killer during the cliffhanger and at the first of the episode. Sort of looked like he had a limp? Might have been the animation. No cliffhanger this week, but we'll finally see some confrontation about Kayo's abuse. Only problem is that the killer is still out there and two other victims to protect. Not sure how Satoru will even begin to foil the killer. Can only catch him in the act of kidnapping.

Best episode yet. So many different emotions ranging from creepy to funny and finally... the feels. I was getting teary when they started showing that montage with the bread and ramen and finally lost it at the end, but grated anything related to the lack of food always gets me because I've been through some bad times food wise so I can relate. I'm this close to giving this series a 10, can't wait for next episode.

I got some good human emotions from this episode. Thumbs up!

Show continues to shine in the past timeline compared to the present one.

maybe the show shining in the past and sucking in the present is the director's method of showing via the production how his life in the present sucks while the past it was pretty cool. The ultimate symbolism.

All caught up with the show

Im curious of how they are going to balance this in the end. I don't think this will be the last "revival" and well get like a out of nowhere one in the last episode or something like that. I see it being past based until episode 10 and then 11 and 12 will be present with 12 having the out of nowhere quick revival

I actually don't mind the present stuff because there needs to be contrast between his 2 lives. Episode 5 and 6 were definitely needed and worked as a good "breather" for the storyline of the past.

I was waiting for something terrible to happen the entire episode. Glad it didn't.

At this point I think the teacher is just a red herring. The "clues" are too obvious.

Yeah, some of the scenes in this episode feel like they are explicitly designed around the idea that the audience suspects the teacher, like finding out the mom is in cahoots with him about Kayo. I think that scene is supposed to make you uncomfortable, but I also think that's why it's probably not the teacher.

Anyway, great episode, I would watch an entire series that's just a Satoru and Kayo slice of life tbh

Episode 8

The episode felt really slow, and as it turns out, they adapted just 2 chapters from the manga this time. It's interesting that they're slowing down rather than speeding up...

Some good moments, but not a ton actually happening until the very end of the episode. Now I'm really wondering what their plans for the rest of the series are. Will they just skip a chunk of stuff next week and move the story into the final arc? Or will they slow down more and.... leave the "final arc" as an anime movie conclusion?

I had the same thought earlier in the week. As is they are not going to get everything from the Manga into the show, it's just not going to happen. So either they end up skipping a lot of stuff, the next 4 episodes are on hyper speed, or they continue as is and they end the last episode on a cliffhanger of "Season 2 coming in the summer", which would technically still fit what the creator said about the show ending with the same manga ending, even if overly optimistic.

There isn't enough content for another season. And the show replacing Erased on noitaminA is probably 24 episodes.

Oh god. I've gotten at least 2 people into this show by saying "don't worry, it should have an ending". Have I done fucked up?

The manga is finishing slightly before the anime, so the animators should've been able to find out what happens assuming the author himself knows. I think Duckroll's speculation of maybe ending in a movie is possible.

Another good episode. This show shines when it focuses on the Satoru/Kayo/BestMom relationship. Definitely got a little misty at the end there. Killer is either the teacher or someone completely random. The teacher being the killer is almost too obvious. He conveniently knows everything that's going on which makes him almost seem like a red herring to me.

Will someone just call the fucking police?!

Also, people in anime put way too much effort into their meals. I mean, sure it looked great and it was a great scene but I can't imagine spending that much time making breakfast or dinner for your kids every damn day.

Anyway, I hope there is a movie because I don't feel like they could have a good wrap-up in just three more episodes.

Yeah for a working mom she's going out of her way. Which makes her even more awesome.

I hope they can make a satisfying conclusion with the anime and don't resort to a movie. I really don't want to wait up to a year to get the conclusion for this. While also trying to avoid manga spoilers.

Episode 8 was great, some good emotional stuff and, even though I saw a lot of it coming, still effectively pierced my heart. About time Kayo got to experience a good breakfast from best mom. Also at least the episode end wasn't really a cliffhanger relative to the past few episodes, wonder if the staff read this thread lol

I feel kinda dumb for not understanding why everyone thinks the teacher is for sure the killer, maybe I'm missing something? He seems more like a red herring.

Because after 8 episodes, there are no other characters that could be the killer. There are some things that don't make much sense-- like why he doesn't just follow Satoru if he knows that he's hiding Kayo, but he's really the only possible suspect at this point. Anyone else would be completely out of nowhere.

Im just gonna say whats on everyone mind. We all know who the fuckin' killer is and she's the same dirty slut who's been fucking with us the entire time.

It's funny you mention her, because I totally still think she is going to be offed if Sataru saves the other three

After I'd been hearing about this, I thought I'd get, away with watching an episode while eating dinner. That was four hours ago. I was like this a kot.

Also, I was pretty stoked to hear Asian Kung Fu Generation doing the OP. They're one of my favourite bands. I had no idea that song was for this anime when i heard it on the radio.

Honestly, if it was any of the kids, when the killer showed up in the bus, if he knew she was there, he would of killed her then. I was suspecting the blonde kid, but yeah.

Sat on it a bit, half hungover and thought about this
Haven't read the manga either

-Im in the group as well that "the teacher is a red herring" in terms of being the killer, however they are running low on time in terms of making anyone else standout and it would hurt the show alot if it's random person in episode 12 we never met

-I also believe Satoru has been focusing too much on Kayo and not enough on the general case itself like the other girls and his friend Yuuki (idk if spelled right). My initial thought was that saving Yuuki would be the real important piece because while Kayo might have been the first Yuuki's connection to being the fall guy might be more than just "seeing her in the park"

-the killer from the past isn't the same one in the present, as in she/he is just a prodigy, which makes me feel like one of the kids in the past will probably be the killer of the present. Idk if it will be the blond kid, but I think he will come into play in the future just by the way they are showing him alot. Again that can be a red herring as well to throw us off.

-The girl that always sits next to Satoru will probably come into play as well. I can see her being a victim

-I don't think all loose ends will be tied up, like a death will still slip through the cracks regardless and it might just be something that can't be fixed. Almost as in a lesson for Satoru and the viewer that while not everything is set in stone some events will be unfortunately.

I don't think Kenya is a bad guy in anyway.

I think he is getting so much focus now because he'll come up again in a revised future, but still as an ally.

They definitely seem to be making the teacher stand out too much to be the sole perpetrator of everything.

Future Satoru is the killer. There are three Satoru.

Past Satoru - the actual past Satoru.

Present Satoru - who currently inhabits past Satoru's body. And also is being framed for murder.

Future Satoru - now old, he fears his time is coming. He want so live... forever.

It turns out Present Satoru succeeds in saving Hinadzuki. This is because Future Satoru succeeded in the past, or Present Satoru's current time. Thinking of a way to save himself, Future Satoru to go back in time and frames Present Satoru for murder, forcing Present Satoru to go back into the past, which will allow him to succeed in saving Hinadzuki. This will then create a stable time loop, allowing Future Satoru to live forever.

Wouldn't all the Satoru's inhabit the same body?

If that didn't completely betray every aspect of his character, I would still praise the gods you aren't a writer on this show.

If the show were to throw in some terrible split-universe plot point (caused every time Satoru revives) in the final arc of the season, the whole anime would wind up a failure.

This isn't
Predestination
(recent sci fi movie title).

Also that's not how the time travel works in this

No matter what they do with a possible 'it was satoru the whole time' they'll have to pull something out of their ass when the time travel aspect has been more of a plot device than the guiding force in this. If the killer isn't someone in his timeline I riot.

Yea they already established the rules of how the game works in Erased.

There is no way they will do that and if they did, then they pretty much just shit the bed on the whole series and show.
