I generally use it when people want to zone. It gets them to change their mind real quick.

Yeah, that's still punishable. For example; If Ryu does fireball at fullscreen, you do V-Skill the instant you see the fireball, all Ryu has to do is dash in once and do HK Tatsu to punish you.

As much as I like Mika, she has an incredibly hard time to get in and has no good wakeup option. Officially switched to Birdie.

BTW have any of you guys ran into weird cases where players just seem to do the same thing over and over even if they're getting punished for it

I played against a Zangief last night who was at like 900 LP and all he did was jumping HK towards me

I got a perfect in the second round because I countered it every single time

And he didn't disconnect when he lost so it wasn't like he was trying to cheese his way to a high rank

I've had a few bad lag games as Ken where like, it looks like the other guy is jumping in, i hit him with an M-shoryuken, then I'm eating a ground combo halfway across the screen. Rinse and repeat.

Fucking lag, man.

I beat easy survivor with Birdie being almost totally clueless about his moves. I could imagine him being strong and doing well online where people don't know his moves. BUT, his attitude / voice / poses / appearance are so completely repulsive, by design, I don't think I would really have fun winning. I think I enjoy watching most any other character ingame more.

Lol I love Birdie. His design and his animations are genuinely great imo. Might not be everyone's cup of tea I guess.

You switched to a character with the worst wakeup options lol. All your normals are slow, EX Bull horn takes a second to charge, and you have, I feel, the worst hurtbox and get crossed up for no reason. I have a 0 win rate vs the gimmicky Mikas =/ I always get clipped by something random and sent to the corner to die.

Yes, I wish they'd bring that mechanic back.

SF3 also lets you taunt people after the round is over.

This is such a dope, subtle thing. Wish that and being able to smack people after the round were still in. Dem mind games.

Oh, and yeah, taunt effects are brilliant.

Er, hey genius; Mika's super has 3 frame startup so you can easily jump out of it. Birdie's super is better for obvious reasons. The EX Bull Horn is there specifically to go through fireball zoning, so it doesn't apply to non-fireball characters. Also his 2MP stops crossups. I would make a bet that you get clipped because you're one of those guys who refuses to block on wakeup and just taps buttons.

his animations are amazing though. Clearly they had a ton of fun making him.

Birdie's moves are easy but using him effectively is a lot harder than you'd think. My biggest issue with him is that he's best when you can get a good read on your opponent which isn't always something you can do with how random people play online. Of course I've seen people play him very aggressively too.

SF4 let you get 1 extra hit in after a round was over

Fuck them for removing it, because it was awesome.

They removed it in Super because Capcom found a game breaking bug with it. It probably was left out of 5 because they didn't want the possibility of there being a bug again. Since 5 uses the same fighting engine -not game engine- as 4.

It fucks replays up if done between rounds iirc.

Ugh, servers must be messed up. Got to 4250 LP doing a round of ranked matches, and I see that I'm still at 4016 when I go back to the main menu. Also, says I have 0 LP, I'm a Rookie and my favorite character is Ryu when I check my Fighter Profile.

Had the same issue earlier today. I've decided to wait for Capcom's update before touching this game again.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I went from 1700LP to 1300, back to 1500, and last night went on a great streak that took me to silver.

Ranked is so hard for me. I play so stupid compared to how I normally would. My decision making is so bad and I get hit by so much that I know how to get around or block. I don't have this problem in tourneys or casuals, just ranked matches.

I find that I lose more to the random as fuck people as opposed to the more standard matches which bugs me. Last night I went on a nice streak from 1100 to 1600 though, only lost once during it after a set with my friend. I'm starting to just play Birdie just defensively and having people hang themselves while I body them with normals. I'm winning way more doing way less, lol.

why are so many people conveniently lagging tonight. casual ken porting all over the place. ryu player throwing from half screen away. so annoying.

my level is also jumping from 150 to 0 from one screen to the next.

Rashids full screen dash attack is sf4 blanka levels of cheap cancer. Like, it's completely unpunishable, are you for fucking real?

I fought a Necalli who kept uppering everything. I crush countered a couple thinking that would show him, but his mixup was that there was no mixup. Came down to last round, last hit, and I was like, no way he's going to upper again.

EX Upper.

KO.

I hold dat L.

This is exactly why scrubs are the hardest thing to beat w/ Mika, lol. Trying to condition somebody who refuses to adapt. I almost lost to a bad Ken this morning because I was trying to condition him to DP on wakeup. Came down to the last hit in the last round and I said fuck it and dash grabbed him instead of going for the crush counter. I won, but it didn't feel good knowing it was a coin toss.

On that note, how punishable is Ken's hk/EX tatsu on block/whiff (if it goes over your head)? I haven't tested in training, but it seems to leave him in a really safe position.

It's so punishable though. Block and hit them with a combo.

How do I punish something that is way out of my range after blocking it?

Who are you using, Mika? Medium peach hits it, also ex peach. I confirmed both of those against a Japanese Rashid player.

I'll try, thanks. He just seems to move so quickly afterwards that I didn't think a slow ass move like raw peach could stand a snowballs chance in hell

Getting disconnected while in training mode, without fight requests on, and getting booted back to the main menu, is the dumbest shit ever.

EDIT: Oh, and it just decided to discard the moves I had recorded as well. Nice.

A lot of Rashid's stuff can be punished hard by neutral jumping it. Might not be able to punish on block but you sure can punish it if they whiff it completely.

Finally found out why I'm dashing so frequently without intending to do so. My freshly RMA'd keyboard has occasional chatter on the d key again:/ Before I send this in for another RMA I'll definitely settle on either getting a stick or a hitbox (a bit off topic but does anyone of you know off a stick that is easily modded into a hitbox? This would make things easier for me)

I also just won a match against a sim by throwing out some random ... i mean well timed DPs. I'm glad to finally be the one with the psychic abilities for once ;)

I agree, rashid is the new blanka holy shit. What an annoying fuck. I found out that people who spam his air dash thingy can be neutral jump punished. On your way down, be hitting hk or hp into a combo to punish them.

Sometimes youd think that would be enough to make them stop using it, but they always pull that shit out of nowhere. Even if you arent doing anything and are just walking back and forth, they can hit you because you cant see it coming. It is SO fast! You cant react unless you just block preemptively, or throw out a psychic AA.

But in the meantime, you can get cozy with a few of the game’s new fighters. March sees the Store finally open up so that players can grab the first new character, Alex. That’s just the start. A new fighter will show up each month thereafter, starting with Guile in April and followed by Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, and Urien. Earn enough in-game cash and you can grab ‘em for free, but you can also fork over real-world money (a Season Pass for all the characters runs $30).

Dunno how true the order will end up being, but I would be FUCKING STOKED. Alex, Ibuki, and Guile are all three mains for me and I'd get them all in a row? LOL

Well, just downloading this now, loved Street Fighter 2 and its iterations back in the day and played very little of 4 a few years ago.

I was wondering if anyone can point me to a good website that details character move inputs...

Yep. First time against a Vega, so it was good training. Also I really need to get SF4 focus attack out of my system.

Sorry for only playing Bison, but I am horrible with anyone else. Playing Bison until Rog comes out.

Hey man, long time no see in SF-land! We should practice sometimes! I have a crappy Cammy, a moderately bad Karin, and of course, a parry-happy Ryu and a very amateur Chun-Li! : D

Some basic info about Necalli since I see a lot of confusion about him and how you're supposed to be playing:

Necalli is a very straightforward, heavily reactive character. He has some of the best movement speed in the game, the best anti air and has tools to punish at most distances. You generally don't want to engage in protracted footsie wars due to his slightly below average normals, but you want to pressure with counterpokes and counterhit setups agressively.

Brief overview of key normals for the neutral:

  • sLP: decent late anti air, combos into EX stomps for certain punishes
  • sMK: option select this normal into his target combo during footsies. Think of it like Dudley's sRH.
  • sHK: decent for fishing for crush counters, it's also your main DP punish combo starter. sHK xx V-Trigger is +11 so you can use that to establish pressure in a pinch as well.
  • cMK: easy way to fish for super, only move that will reach on your opponent's wakeup during some setups
  • jHP: His deepest, jump-in move, beats some anti airs
  • jMK: his crossup, also good at tagging people who dash under a neutral jump
  • jHP: his farthest reaching air normal

some counterhit strings to be aware of:
  • cLP, cMP xx MK Stomp: this is actually two frame traps combined, and if the cMP gets a counter hit, the stomp combos for big damage. the stomp actually trades with many quick lights which leads to massive combos as well.
  • cMK xx LK Stomp: very safe blockstring at a longer range and an extremely easy hit confirm into super.
  • sMK xx V-Trigger, cMK/HP or EX command grab: My trademark frame trap, this will beat any non-invincible move while also serving as a hit/throw mixup. furthermore, if the sMK hits, it's very easy to confirm into sHP after the trigger for a massive combo.

Notes:
  • Necalli can have negative edge issues when confirming a blocked normal into a stomp move. Sometimes a rush will come out instead if you're still holding charge. Be aware of this.
  • jump back jHP is a good way to punish a predicted Birdie or Gief going for a command grab without risking an anti air
  • using the heavy stomp during blockstrings is a good way to incentivize your opponent to push buttons after blocked normals. using the heavy then medium versions can get you a ton of damage
  • don't be afraid to use necalli's awesome forward dash during footsies occasionally, especially if your opponent whiffs a move.
  • for the love of god, don't use HP uppercut after EX command grab unless you're going to kill/stun your opponent. go for the reset. There's no point otherwise.

Are you talking about the horizontal flying leg shit? I thought the same thing, I just think you have to dash right after block to get close enough. Should still have time after that.

Edit: I was also drunk when I thought this worked, so maybe the other guy just was not blocking after the attack...

Character command lists are available in the pause menu in training mode, survival and story mode.

Online resource is here though.

If he performs it from a stand-still, it's punishable. If he performs it out of a run, he bounces away further and is typically safe.

Pay attention to his movement. If he starts running at you be ready to stick out something that will stop him in his tracks or try to jump and come down on top of him instead of just blocking him or something.

If he ever does the stationary version against Mika you can go straight into an f.MP throw combo after blocking it.
