Stardew Valley |OT| Resting Under a Harvest Moon [Up: now on PS4]

I can't wait for it to be ready.

You can already do this btw. with Nvidia DSR (or the AMD equivalent):

Official support will naturally be better since hopefully that'll also mean proper UI scaling, but at default resolutions the screen just feels too cramped.

If those screenshots taught me something, it's that I suck at farming,
which is true
. I'll better stick to what I know: fishing and making trouble.

a wild thought visited me yesterday, what if my grandpa is not happy with what I've done with his farm? Can he kick me out after 3 years? I mean that I can't continue past that time?

Just bought this. I was considering picking up Story of Seasons for 3DS, but then remembered this existed and thought I'd have a go at it instead. Probably going to end up having this for at home, and SoS for on the go.

Just a head's up to all Mac users out there. A wineskin has already been complied for both Steam and GOG versions. I want to post a link (to the forum where you can grab the engine with Steam installed. All you need to do is purchase the game there/download the game using it), but will that be a bannable offense?

Wish there was an in-game way of respeccing (even if it came at a considerable cost - more end-game moneysinks in this game would be nice), but for now that is better than nothing if you picked wrong at some point; especially since your first choice at skill lvl 5 determines your choices at lvl 10.

It does? damn... I wish I knew, I don't even remember what first skill was at 5, probably foraging or fishing, but probably foraging

Which skill you get to 5 first won't affect anything. But your choice when you get to 5 with one skill will affect what you can choose at 10 for that same skill. It's like a skill tree, except they don't let you see it all in game for some reason.

So you can only choose one skill? So if you choose combat you can only choose at level five and ten?

Can you wait for other skills and not choose one from the first skill prompt?

You hit level 5 with combat. You have a choice of Fighter or Scout. If you choose Fighter, you can later choose Brute or Defender. You'd have different level 10 options if you picked Scout at 5.

When you later hit level 5 with any other skill, your combat (or any other skill) choice does not affect it at all. It's more accurate to say each skill has their own tiny skill tree. You can still make choices with other skills, so don't worry about which skill you got to level 5 first.

Ah sweet thanks man.

My quest to build a stable has been stymied at every turn. Not enough hardwood one day, not enough iron the next, the third day the carpenter is closed for aerobics, and now I'm on the eve of a holiday which will delay things further.

Like, c'mon Yoba! Show me some slack.

I abandoned it because I couldn't find them anywhere... and then stumbled across them five hours later and finished it anyways.

That quest... went places.

Dood... if you thought that was... something, at some point, the Mayor sends you a request in your mail:

I need truffle oil. Don't ask why.

The images in my mind right now, can never be unseen. NEVER UNSEEN.

NEVER..

Sooo...hardcore HM fans, do you recommend it?
I'm not a hardcore HM fan, but I've seen a number of recommendations here that said it's better than any HM they've played.

The bulletin requests can be pretty questionable too. The old guy once needed a hot pepper to rub on his leg. Weird town. Have you been to the sewers?
I think they're developing ooze mutagen down there, holy crap. The hell kind of town is this?

So i have 2000 to spare, which upgrade to go for first? Copper Axe/Pickaxe or that fibreglass fishing rod? (I still have the first rod you get, didn't get the middle one for 500G)

Do days feel long enough? Some of the HM games felt like you had to rush to get anything done.

At first I thought it was too short, but as time has gone on I feel like it's near perfect. Some days I'm struggling to make it back to my house by 2am and other days I'm going to the hot springs at noon and heading to the mine to kill time. I think it's a pretty good in between.

My upgrade priorities are:

Pickaxe > Axe > Hoe

Pickaxe is probably the most important, since you'll want to be as efficient as possible mining for ore, which in turn is used to upgrade the other tools.

Watering Can > During Winter, when I dont need to water anything. I'd try and shoot for the highest possible upgrade you can in one season, so you'll need to unlock Gold Ore, and have enough money to spare to do three upgrades in a row during Winter.

Fishing Rod > luckily you dont need any material to upgrade this, you just need to buy them when they're available. I wouldn't call it a big priority (not more than the Pickaxe), just buy them when you have the spare cash.

After 20 hours or so, what I love most about the game is its sense of exploration, its secrets.

This takes me waaaay back to the early 90s when every game felt full of secrets to me and I spent days or weeks exploring stuff, searching for the tiniest details. I didn't think I would ever experience this feeling again but Stardew Valley, man, it's really getting to me.

There is so much interesting stuff that doesn't make sense at first sight or doesn't seem to have any purporse, but it's so interesting that it's there and I can't help but wonder what it might reveal -- it's a game that actually makes me curious about its world again and it always feels like the surprise might be worth it.

I don't know. It's just... beautiful.

I'm nearing the end of summer and I got ~40k to spare. I already have my kitchen and the biggest backpack. I'm going to upgrade my coop next and after that I probably don't know what to do with my money. Perhaps I'll upgrade some tools for what I first have to buy the ore, because I'm too lazy to explore the mines. So far I've only reached lvl 14 there.

Thanks, will upgrade my pickaxe asap then!

Besides, what does the better fishing pole even do?

Allows the use of bait, which, I think, increases the chance of a fish biting, and poles beyond the fiberglass pole allows the use of lures which do different things based on the lure you use.

Edit:had lure info wrong.

The Bamboo pole lets you equip bait to it, which speeds up the chances of fish biting. As far as I can tell, there's only one kind of bait? 1 piece of bait is used per cast, I believe.

The next one up is the Iridium pole, and that lets you equip bait and lures/hooks. The lures/hooks have various abilities, for example:

-increase size of bar
-stops bar from bouncing when it hits the bottom
-"tracks" the fish, so that you dont have to actually reel... much

There's others, but I mainly use those.

Lures/hooks degrade over time, so you'll have to keep a stock of them on hand if you want to seriously use them.

40k damnnn, first summer?

I love how for years Harvest Moon fans have been begging for that franchise to just return to its roots, go back to sprites, and get rid of the gimmicky bullshit. They ignored everyone, and now this comes out and is instantly more talked about than any Harvest Moon has been for years.

Spring passed and still broke :(

Feel like I'm doing everything wrong...I need to Google some tips.

I know that feel I'm super broke and have been all of spring. I've just hit summer where I did have 5k to spend after saving up for a fair few days and spent it on an Apple tree, it best be worth it!

The only upgrade I have is a copper axe everything else is the same as it was when I started. I not have 93 G to my name and some fruit that is going to take 6 days to mature, back to fishing I guess.

I don't mind being broke though, I'm just going to take it slow and go through the years rather than trying to min/max my farm. I'm still having fun just mining for a day, fishing for another, doing quests and then working on my farm for another day rather than just rushing around trying to get all the stars to align for that crazy profit.

First summer?

Not that hard, depends on your priorities. You could fish all day and buy hundreds of the most profitable seeds and make a ton. But that would require watering a fuck lot and ignoring the rest of the game.

Also, summer has cranberries iirc. (edit: woops, that was Fall)

Then what's the use of even getting the fibreglass rod if the bamboo pole also equips bait and only from iridium pole on do you get lures? Better off just purchasing the bamboo for 500 and be done with it for now right?

Also: Damn you Robin's axe, i wasted an entire day looking almost and didn't find it UGH maybe i'm just stupid ;)

First summer and I'm even taking my time.
I've only planted ~140 crops. 32 of them are watered by sprinklers. I'll probably extend my field with 36 additional crops in fall and that should be enough to make good cash.
I used the basic fertilizer on all my crops.

I found the right balance with my amount of crops. I start the day with taking care of my 4 chickens and then (if any crops can be harvested, I harvest them first) I water my crops. This drains ~half of my energy. With the rest of the energy I either do something useful on the farm or if I'm lucky I go fishing and make an extra 2-3k that day.

How exactly do you unlock brewing or wine? I'm nearing winter and still haven't unlocked the ability to craft them.

You'll unlock the blueprint for the keg at farming lvl 8 and then you can put wheat, hop, fruits etc. in it to make different sorts of beer, wine.

Wait til you need to find Luns' basket. I got lucky I spotted it randomly otherwise I don't think I would have ever found it because I didn't even know it was somewhere I could go.

Sweet, thanks for that :D

Found that Axe no problem. It's these damn pants or shorts that I need to find now -.-

Sweet, thanks for that :D

One person could plant only blueberries in summer and make maximum profit with this, but that's no fun.
I'm trying to plant a good variety of crops. Currently it is 36 blueberrie crops, 18 wheat crops, 12 hop crops, 10 melon crops, 18 corn crops and 32 pepper crops.

Is a year in this game actually 365 days?

A year has 4 seasons. A season has 28 days. One Stardew Valley year has 112 days.

Thanks, not too far away then.

The shorts got spoiled for me just because I saw so many people asking about them early on. The axe was easy for me because I was making that area a regular spot to check because I found a ton of Leaks there early on.

Is a year in this game actually 365 days?

No, think it's like 112 if all the seasons have the same days.

This game is amazing. Although I'm a terrible fisherman. Maybe I need to look into some lures.

Also, is there anyway to edit the layout of your farm once you put some buildings down? Mine has been a little bit haphazard and if I can I'd like to redesign it a little. And what is that ruined building?

Sorry, got the rods confused.
There's only 3 rods.

Bamboo is the first one that's given to you by Willy. You COULD buy it again, but there's no reason to (unless you lost it). You can't equip anything to it.

Fiberglass is the 2nd one, and you can only equip bait to it.

Iridium is the last one, and you can equip both bait and lures/hooks.

Better rods also affect how much stamina/energy you use when you cast (this pretty much applies to the better version of any tool). So the better the rod, the less energy it'll take, the more you can fish.

Do days feel long enough? Some of the HM games felt like you had to rush to get anything done.

You just have to accept that you can't do everything in the game every day. You can't care for a bunch of crops, a bunch of animals, comb the beach, fish, explore the mines, forage every area, and visit all of the townsfolk every day. I'm basically picking a couple of things to focus on each season and switching it up a bit.

damn. i might need to pick this up.

im not looking for anything to destroy my spirit. is this like, dark souls farming, or more chill?

It depends. If you expect to talk to everyone, mine , fish, forage everything on the same day you're going to get stressed out, otherwise it's pretty relaxing.
