Stardew Valley |OT| Resting Under a Harvest Moon [Up: now on PS4]

I am so slacking on the social part. I'm only really pushing to socialize with Maru and Linus. I'm probably missing all kinds of interesting tidbits.

damn. i might need to pick this up.

im not looking for anything to destroy my spirit. is this like, dark souls farming, or more chill?

Super chill. I've been looking for a game that I can just relax while playing and this is it.

I love animal crossing, but have never enjoyed Harvest Moon.

Is this for me?

I've never really enjoyed Harvest Moon either despite trying a few entries out, but I like this a lot more so possibly.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I think I've only spoken to the NPCs once. I only remember like two names. I don't even have the Introductions quest done yet.

Right now I'm focusing on the farming mechanics, exploring, etc.

I honestly think I won't be touching those social aspects until my next play through or very late in my current one.

As said before it can get pretty overwhelming trying to do everything at once. (guilty)

It depends. If you expect to talk to everyone, mine , fish, forage everything on the same day you're going to get stressed out, otherwise it's pretty relaxing.

Yeah, it's easy to forget that this game transitions from RPG to Sandbox after the 2nd (?) year. I got caught up in trying to complete my growing list of npc quests and stressed myself out trying to game the admittedly strict daily schedule.

Then I said, "Screw this, I'm just doing what I want, when I want." and the game became a lot more fun. Time management is cool and all, but I had to make peace with the fact that I might not get everything done before endgame flips into sandbox, and that took a lot of pressure off my shoulders.

I think the only reason I've spent so much time with Maru and Linus is because I have to walk past them to get to the mine. If I had to track down Penny or figure out where Haley was I'd probably not be talking to anyone.

I also talk to the angry wheelchair guy often just because I think he's hilarious. But fuck giving him gifts.

There's two girls who go to work every single morning to the JoJo mart. It looks so soul crushing.
It's hilarious because they complain every single time as well. I love little details like that.

What are you guys even talking about? this game is stressful, there is no way to relax and forget how fast the day will end.
Not saying it's a bad thing, makes you at least try to plan your time better, but if I was to start a game now with all what I know, I'd make a lot of plans beforehand, like farm buildings layout and such, which activities level and how and in what order, etc.
Time management is a killer in this game, now when I look back, how many wrong decisions I made! Like loosing all crops two seasons in a row. jeebus,. even thinking about it stresses me out.

That seems more like personal stress than stress caused by the game. I just sit back and enjoy it. I wake up, water my crops, then figure out if its going to be a fishing/mining/social or resource sorting day. I don't put much thought into it.

Can anyone confirm if this job request is in the game, or its just Reddit being Reddit? I'm going to feel really guilty that its getting retweeted so much, and it's not actually in the game. :p

I'm gonna say its fake just because it doesn't seem like Haley's requests. Usually all her requests are something expensive just to make her happy. Going along with her spoiled rich girl persona. But maybe I'm wrong...

That's Harvest Moon in a nutshell.

Eventually, you just have to learn to do the activities you enjoy, talk to whom you want, etc.

I don't really enjoy fishing in these games, so I don't fish.

Looking at the Reddit thread I got that image from, it looks like the item is actually random, but its still asked the same way. Someone on Reddit pointed out she asked for a pumpkin in the same way.

I really don't want to know what she'd do with a pumpkin...

It's stressful throughout the first year maybe when you have no resources and little no go automated shit.

Year two though?

I have 140+ crops with sprinklers that all I need to do is plant the seeds at the beginning of the month and then Harvest it everytime is ready.

When animals are made more useful I'll eventually buy some more and grass definitely has gotten faster in growing so hay shouldn't be an issue next time I get them.

Man, starfruit wine is so ridiculous.

Just spent 100k on starfruit seeds.

Come harvest time:

I actually enjoy fishing, it always sucks when I do it in other videogames. I appreciate it has to do with precision and the fish bite quite often.
Excited on starting my farm, hope you can pet the cows.

Befriending people is so boring. I hope Harvey is a closet slut cause this is taking too long.

I love going out just before sunset and fishing.

Just got to winter of the 1st year . I love the Ghibli references in this game like one of the rarecrows is Turnip Head from Howl's moving castle.

I still haven't even built a Coop. Not sure when I'll get more into the animal part of this game.
I wouldn't recommend it personally. I built a coop and barn and had to sell the animals because they didn't make enough money fast enough to warrant keeping them around.

You make much more from farming btw. Id recommend focusing on getting the ores to make the sprinklers.

Even if they make more money I'm not sure if I'll be interested. Maybe if there is something more added with them down the road. Whether it be slaughtering or something else, just not sure if I'm interested how they are now.

All day making this, but i think at the end was worth it. Maru's complete workover. I dont have a problem with the majority of spritework, even if have been changing some, I think is pretty good for the most part (and lots of dedication was put into it, thast for sure), but I still need to say, Maru's portrait ingame is rubbish, there not two ways about it. It really sticks like a sore thumb with the rest of his really good art, and it was primarly, why I wanted to do this mod. So this time, the work was much longer, and becuase i knew there was people out there who liked various of the first itinerations he did with Maru, I decided that isntead of choosing one, I would do 2 of them, one ondulated, and one curly. Not only that, but both come with a glasses and no glasses version, so you can choose anything you prefer for her.
And of course, she has her hospital portratrait which I changed completly, becuase the nurse hat she had was pretty bad. So I gave her a more appropiate nurse hat, again, like with ehr normal version, you can change the type of hair and glasses she has. If you want to have normal Maru without glasses and nurse Maru with glasses in the same game, you can also do that.

So here it is:
Old > the two bases I used > New one with Ondulated Hair and no Glasses
maruportraitoldcyy17.png
maruportraitbase1zuljv.png
maruportraitbase2yfxn0.png
maruportraitnewm7zhe.png

The different flavours to choose from:
maruportraitnewondglavvaz1.png
maruportraitnewcurlqzz9r.png
maruportraitnewcurlgl1syd3.png

And Nurse portrait old > new with ondultaed and glasses (you can choose the others if you want too)
maruhospitalportraitoi9xfy.png
maruhospitalportraitn9is52.png

Also I need your HELP guys. As you can see the normal portrait has 2 poses with numbers 2 and 3. Thats is because its exactly the same as the first pose (what I call the happy one). I dont know if they are used in game (abigail has a similar one im testing right now), and I would love if you guys could test them while you are playing (easier if you are going after Maru in the game, I suppose), and tell me what kind of dialogs she has in those instances. Then i can make new animations that work better for those scenes instead of using always the happy pose, and have them all in a big pack fixed for tomorrow when I make Haley.

So if you can test it, it would be super thankful! This is only the ondulated no glasses ones (and no nurse) and only for test, the complete one would be done in the pack with all the other characters.
To do so, download the .xnb and put it inside the Stardew Valley/Content/Portraits folder. Its on yout steamapps folder (if you are using steam).

If you see a 2 or 3 top of Maru's head in one of the dialogues, make a print screen (the more dialogues the better) and send me a PM. Who knows, maybe the game never uses this sprites but just to be sure.

That's actually in the game, I got that same request the day the game came out and promptly showed my friends because I thought it was the most random thing ever, lol.

Haley what the fuck is my avatar not enough for you?

She also asks for a super cucumber
is a fish

Omg thank u!!!

maruportraitbase1zuljv.png

So i just follow those instructions and get this?

Ill help u test anything out, just need to read your message on pc because mobile is a little confusing

Oh sorry, I see the new one is the side view combo. You dont have the front facing wavy haired one do you? If not, that's ok, Ill take the wavy side face without glasses :P

As said before it get get pretty overwhelming trying to do everything at once. (guilty)

This is how I feel as well. I'm on like day 13 of Spring [year 1] and I'm still winging it day by day. I randomly seed some stuff because I don't know what will make the most profit. Spend my off-days fishing because that grants me quite a bit of money.

I feel like I'm under some kind of time pressure all the time [like Dead Rising or something], but I'm not, am I? I mean, my character won't die after year 5 or something, right? I can just play endlessly if I want to?

After 3 years you'll be graded but you can keep playing

The only time pressure is certain things you can only get in a certain season so you need to get them or wait another year for them to be back again. This is most important when it comes to the Giant Fetch Quest at the Community Center.

Remember that most crops only live for one season so you have to be aware of a plants maturity time as their only 28 days in a season. A couple of the holidays also requires you to bring stuff but they will tell you head of time for you to prepare.

Personally I only focus on one thing a day (Other than watering my plants which is an everyday)

There's more than enough depth in the sandbox, and the first couple years take so long to get through. Don't even sweat it.

My current progress:
Year 1, fall 23rd, got married to Abigail, a few days later I get my final house upgrade. Winter 5th,
she suggests having children
. Currently sitting on 20k,

Tool/building upgrades so far:
golden pick axe and watering can, steel axe and hoe.
Tier 2 coop and barn - 1 duck, 3 chicken (white, brown, void), 1 goat, 2 cows

Bundles:
mine cart and quarry unlocked, will get greenhouse by early spring (need the spring fruit trees), still far off for the fishing one unfortunately. Will get the bus one when I get enough spare cash.
I could have gotten the greenhouse by now if I had bought the fall fruit trees earlier to get the fruits before winter; but my current progress isn't too bad I guess.

I was so upset I had nothing to give at the beach party event (the big potluck). I think it happens every year though.

Have you guys seen the mods??

Different pets (border collie), new farming stuff (rice grains, pesticide, disease)... Pretty cool stuff on the forum

I would like a mod that flags items needed for the community center bundles. It can be hard to remember what exactly you still need to donate without trawling through the bundles one by one, trying to remember if you should stash something or just sell it.

I'll definetly try to help you. I just have to figure out how :D

Edit: Okay, it's done, but I'll only be able to test it in ~10 hours.

Sorry, got the rods confused.
There's only 3 rods.

Bamboo is the first one that's given to you by Willy. You COULD buy it again, but there's no reason to (unless you lost it). You can't equip anything to it.

Fiberglass is the 2nd one, and you can only equip bait to it.

Iridium is the last one, and you can equip both bait and lures/hooks.

Better rods also affect how much stamina/energy you use when you cast (this pretty much applies to the better version of any tool). So the better the rod, the less energy it'll take, the more you can fish.

I believe it's your level in the appropriate skill that affects energy use, not the tool. Tools, other than the rods, mitigate energy use by allowing you to accomplish more per strike. Pickaxes and axes take fewer hits and the watering can and hoe can be charged. However, since the straight energy use reduction builds so slowly, it's possible tools do have a minor effect, but even with an iron axe as a level 9 forager I'm using just over 1 energy per swing, with 9 swings taking 10.

I do believe the higher level rods affect how far you cast, though, which affects what fish you can encounter and the quality of the fish you catch.
