It's fine. I'm still trying to unpack how much meaning is supposed to be derived from its metaphors and there are a couple things that I don't like about it.

I need to revisit it to clear things up.

Saw it earlier today. It definitely deserves it. The movie is great for children and adults, has nice humor, and great characters.

I'll say it's even better than big hero 6.

Inside Out was okay at best. I watched it with a friend who also grew up with Disney movies and he said "that is 90 minutes I won't be getting back."

I agree with it, Frozen was a far better movie but still miles behind Ratatouille.

I am looking forward to this, unfortunately I won't get to see it in the cinema and will get it on bluray on release.

Disney Animation steps up while Pixar brings out medicore films except the one year Disney Animated took a break?

The Good Dinosaur was the first major animated film we skipped in theaters in as long as I can remember. Kid just wasn't interested in at all. Conversely, she will drag us to the theater tomorrow if she has to. She's dying to see this.

It was good but didn't do enough with the "if dinosaurs never became extinct" premise. It was too....small feeling.

INSIDE OUT is a better movie story wise, but ZOOTOPIA is more entertaining on a superficial level because of its colorful world, jokes about animals, and pop culture references.
This was my takeaway. I love the character designs and interactions but I wasn't really moved by it as a whole. Not compared to Inside Out. Zootopia was entertaining and I don't really have any criticism myself but it's not the blowout some people are making it out to be, largely in part because a lot of it are things I've already seen before. It's just a megamix of old stereotypes and good ideas. Inside Out had a fairly original premise that tried to visually interpret a lot of really complicated ideas in interesting ways and an amazing ensemble of voice talent. It can be argued that a lot of it was manipulative but Inside Out really got me thinking about a lot of things about myself and my past. Zootopia is a fun experiance with likable characters and there is nothing wrong with that but I think the comparison is pretty unfair because they are both trying to accomplish completely separate things here to varying degrees of success. Although I preferred Inside Out I'm really glad with what Disney is coming out with and I can't wait to see what's next.

I agree with it, Frozen was a far better movie but still miles behind Ratatouille.

I will never understand why Frozen is seen so highly.

The comic high point is a scene at the DMV where sloths work behind the counter and talk. Very. Very. Very. Slowly. If the movie is overlong because of that one hilarious scene, it was worth it.

But...the trailer made that scene feel crap...and THAT'S the comic high point?

If that is true, the only thing high about this RT Page are the Reviewers.

Ratatouille is the best movie Pixar has ever made. Kids love it too.

nope. It was loved by adults or teen. just like most of the pixar movie it had mature audience in mind. It does not mean it was not a good movie. It was great movie. Just not entertaining for kids. Kids 1-8 year old. Their movies are really for 10 and above imo.

you know what movie kids go nuts for. Cars. Frozen.Finding nemo. Movie that have way much kid oriented martial.

Friends and I were dying over that trailer that came out with just the Sloth DMV part, had no idea what the movie was about though. Good to hear the movie itself is great, will check it out sometime

Nope? I have grandkids (2/3 years old) that can't get enough of it.

There is no "nope".

All my friends are "too cool" for animated films. Sad that my Mom is the only one who actively wants to go to these films. My friends are in their low to mid 20's and still don't have the self confidence to watch what they want due to stigma.

My Mom is cooler than my friends... Ergo I need to find cooler friends.

Ouch. I have fond memories of Cats Don't Dance. Are they really that closely paralleled? I don't know much about Zootopia aside from animals just coexisting under the confines of being characterized into "humanesque" form with animal traits in a humanized society.
I pretty much only watch animated movies in theaters.

>Are they really that closely paralleled?
Zootopia did not copy Cats Don't Dance, but it's easy to draw parallels. Zootopia has a main plot unrelated to CDD, and a subplot that
has themes similar to CDD's
.

isn't 99% a bit much? i mean, come on... that's more than casablanca
I don't think RT ever catalogs every critic for a movie. If you added up all the professional reviews of Casablanca it would probably be 1/500 or 1/1000 were negative. For old movies Metacritic and RT get a selection of prominent critics but it's never representative of what the critical response was or is.

They're beating out Pixar which is really wacky thinking about it.

Inside Out was a great return to form, tho.

Inside Out actually bored me, it was...weird.
Like... I just don't think the concept had enough depth to float a 90 minute movie.
It didn't feel like there were really any stakes and the "big finish" of Riley
not getting on the bus
was a complete anti-climax.

If it wasn't for the Cars movies it'd probably be my least favorite Pixar work.

One of the few animated movie commercials where I thought it would be a great film from the start. Friends and I had a similar concept for something we were writing too...and it will never come to pass :(

Really want to see this movie now though

Disagree with Cars (the first one at least), but Inside Out did nothing for me. It was OK, but the hype just didn't deliver for me.

This will be wait for rental territory for me, just like Inside Out. I'd rather watch these in the comfort of my own home without having my chair kicked by a child behind me or having to listen to a mom explain things six or seven times to her kid.

And our local Cinebistro isn't showing it, most likely because it's a theater aimed at 18+.

I feel the same way, I like the idea of the movie, and the outside head scenes were great. However the inside scenes were fairly boring tbh. A third of the movie spent walking slowly around giant bookshelves of memories was not exciting.

I didn't like Inside Out much either. I didn't think it offered anything fresh or novel and all the press talk about how Pixar had invented a new language for parents to talk with their children seemed really condescending.

I also didn't get the hype for Frozen or Big Hero 6. Wreck-It Ralph had some touching moments, I think it's been undersold as a part of modern Disney animation. Still I don't think I've been truly impressed by a CGI film since Wall-E.

I remember thinking Bolt was a cute movie, but it had a poorly done montage sequence about Bolt traveling cross country, and the ending was pretty weak.

Big Hero 6 was just alright, easily the worst Disney Animation movie since Meet the Robinsons. It doesn't do anything special, the characters are mostly forgettable, it didn't really have the emotional touch of some of their better films (despite trying)

what is this noise

That's a great movie.

It probably was. I just forgot just about everything that happened. I remember a highway scene and something about a hamster ball. I think a trailer park was involved 3/4 way through?

For me it was literally forgettable.

Man I feel the exact opposite. Inside Out dropped the ball on its storytelling in several areas (particularly its lackluster third act) but i looked past that because the visuals and concepts were creative. If i had to pick which of the two is more entertaining on a superficial level its Inside Out all the way.

I loved, loved, loved Inside out, but felt Zootopia was better. Inside out just felt like another retread of the "two opposites need to work together to find a way home" plot that Pixar has done multiple times in their films. It was charming and was an interesting take on emotions, but saying the story was better was a stretch. Zootopia had so much going on, a cast of characters I loved, a rather interesting noir plot, the messages about prejudices (Nick's lines not only killed me but resonated a lot), and just great animation.

Seriously, I thought this movie was just going to be okay at first glance, but it is one of my favorites now.

Saw Zootopia today. WOW. Fantastic movie, animation quality was phenomenal, characters and environments were well done and fleshed out. Plot was fun and kept my interest the whole time. Visuals though, holy smokes, the Hyperion rendering engine is being used to it's full potential with this movie.

Excellent movie from Disney.

Just got back from Zootopia. Fantastic movie, highly recommend it. It's a lot deeper than I gave it credit for, almost too on the nose, but I thought it was something that needed to be upfront about its message.

Started from the bottom...

Man, a lot of people really hated Meet the Robinsons? I thought it was good - not great, but good. Just my personal opinion, of course.

I'm gonna have to see this, its on pace to be the best rated movie of all time at Rotten Tomatoes right?

Am I alone in thinking the first ten minutes of Up is the best film making of the last fifty years?

No. Not even the top animated film on RT.

If you told me 10 years ago Disney Animation would be on equal footing with Pixar, I probably would have slapped you in the mouth.

Seriously though this movie is fucking fantastic and everybody needs to go see it.
